The Xbox 360 looks like a pc tower sorta. But still I find it funny. Will probably be a while before we have much more to talk about any of the three next gen systems.

Now at the E3 did they show you the system while the video was being played? Cuz if not they used the emulator they use to test games on a computer and the top of the line cumputers they use have better cards then the PS2. Otherwise they were videos made to show HOW powerful it was and WHAT it could do.

DC, PS1, X-Box games all would have much better graphics if there were a stronger graphics card in them. You have to remember that the system isn't used to create the game but a computer with much more power then the system itself.

I'm sorta jumping in mid-conversation here, but theoretically, would it be possible to change out the video card in one of those systems and essentially upgrade it?

Theoretically.....probly not on most consoles(unless you really know what your doing). Im pretty confident that most consoles system boards are proprietary and you wouldn't be able to upgrade the video card. Xbox might be an exception, ive seen power boxes or upgraded xboxes, although I have no idea if the video card is actually upgraded on those or not.

Remlees right, when making game trailers, previews, the actual game and etc they use high end video/graphic workstations usually capable of displaying much higher graphics and resolutions than the actual console.

I would think being proprietary the system is optimized to use whatever GPU is already in it and other changes would have to be made to take full advantage of an upgraded GPU, but blah.

Sure would be interesting to pull off... But would that actually change the quality of the graphics in a game? Or would it just make them run smoother or something? For example if someone managed to upgrade the card in, like, a PS2 or whatever, would the characters' textures in FFX-2 suddenly blend better? Smoother camera transitions?

It's just something I've never thought of before, so now I'm really curious.

In brief yes but it depends on what created the things. It wouldnt change it from like Legend of Zelda:OOT into Half Life 2. It'd probably blend better. It'd just make them look sharper and how it looked when it was made on the more pwoerful machine if the card is equal or weaker.

If you were rich enough or knew them you most likely could ask sony for a more powerful video card for the PS2. I'm sure the owners of Sony don't use ur average PS2... infact they probably don't even use a PS2...(yea thats right... they probably have a computer with PS2 software all built into it ... god i wish i had that....)

Well tis still not that simple. You would need a card that can fit in the slot and inside of the ps2 itself. well. Or an adapter to the slot that changes it to a PCi slot(your much better bet). However even then it'd have to be an onboard video card and most good video cards areant onboard... or you'd have to use a moniteror buy the adapter to put it on TV but even then you lose quality thru the adapter so it'd be wasted...

Most consoles use integrated onboard GPU's and your simply not going to be able to change that. Onboard GPU's dont have slots they're soldered onto the system board. So good luck in any project you undertake but from the looks of it odds are against you..

Yeah I don't know as much but I don't think they would really have it so it was easy at all. Yeah MM is right it is probably saldered? (I thought it was Soudered?) on. And yeah you wouldn't see a huge jump graphic wise because it can't put more ploygons or effects in. I don't really know if it would be worth the time or money.

Well... souddering is easy... to an extent... i mean they souder mod chips onto xboxs which is why it can destroy the system... the problem would be not damaging the mother etc... then figutring a way to make he PS2 to look at that for graphics.

Although im betting the game medias textures are only of certain quality too. Soldering isn't too hard, but you would also have to remove the chip and have a replacement. Xbox mod chips involve very little soldering, i'd still be afraid to do it though, I dont personally have very much soldering(sp?) experience.

Well finding a replacement was the thing I thought would be hard. I thought it was spelled Soudering or Saudering whichever. But I wouldn't see the point in doing that because like we have more or less agreed on the game can only look so good because of how it's built. It is built to obtain optimum performance on the hardware the PS2 (or any other system for that matter) has. So framerate would probably be better but as we have said graphics wouldn't change much.

well in the case of FF11 it could because i doubt they designed two completely different for PC and PS2... tho actually now that i put much thught into it you would need to adjust the bios to use the full power of the card for any sharper graphics so it wouldn't work....

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
