Thats what Im trying to point out, as long as they know what is right and wrong why restrict them from playing all these violent games? but then again when they get hold a gun.... they'll think that life is a video game and kill people and brag about their in real life killstreak.

It depend if the kid can control there action. Some parent let them play them because they trust them if they do not do anything bad in real life like doing illegal stuff.

In my opinion, the kid is just gonna find out what the games like anyway, with all the killing. In the case of some games, the gruesome nature of the storyline. So really it doesn't matter, we should try to keep some games out of kids hands but it won't much matter anyway.

Yeah, I think it's ok. As long as the parents know what the kid is playing. I was playing Conker's Bad Fur Day and GTA III when I was about that age. His parents just need to make sure he knows what he's seeing so there's no confusion.

No, that is absolutely outrageous. No 9 year old kid should be playing those games. In my opinion, those games are for mature teenagers (ugh, those 5 year old trolls are so annoying) and adults for playing. I'm surprised that the kid isn't playing Assassins Creed too, or the Atari Porn games, oh wait, only AVGN plays those XD I'm just kidding, I love AVGN, but those are sick games, as well as the ones the thread starter listed above.

It's dangerous. Sure, some kids can handle the gore, and can tell fantasy from fiction, but still. Nine year olds are still mentally developing. Some could be easily influenced by it. It gets irritating how parents legitimately let them play it, regardless of what the kid could do with the knowledge he gains. They could become a sexual offender or something if they aren't stable enough to handle the violence and coarse language, and sexual terms.

This is coming from the protective side of me, but this is some trash that some parents do without actually explaining the game that we can do without in the world.

Yeah, I agree with treasureplanet, those games are only for a certain age range, not for little kids who still watch elmo. I don't think these games are for them, they are just too violent and they should be playing stuff suitable for their age. This is becoming a problem with too many younger kids playing violent video games like this. I don't approve of it at all. I am a teenager and evin still, I don't play these kinds of games. I just don't find them exciting ir interesting. That being said, they are not for little kids. These are for mature teenagers and adults only. So I don't approve of this at all.

I remember being young and playing games like Crash Bandicoot and Spider man. I'm not saying children shouldn't be allowed to play games that are a higher rating than E, but they need to learn the difference between real and fantasy. And when I see my nine year old step brother play Grand Theft Auto only to spend hours in a strip club, I don't think that should be allowed. Mature games should be played with a mature person present, or else kids will think killing and stealing is okay since they do it in a game.

I for one don't think it depends the individual 9 year-old playing Grand Theft Auto. Because it isn't true. There is no child that doesn't deepen him/herself in any game world. A 9 year-old child's mind is still developing, and as such, that child absorbs stuff they see as a sponge. That age rating is there for a reason. 9 year-olds shouldn't play Gears Of War, Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty.

Heck, when I was 9, I played Crash Bandicoot and Spyro.

I really don't think it's a good idea to let kids play these kinds of games. No, I don't believe their going to try to imitate the characters in these games but I think it's likely that the content could affect them in the future. We don't know how certain parts of childhood will affect them in the future and it's really not worth the risk.

Ever since modern video games had been created, children have been becoming greatly addicted to violent video, such as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. I mean, I am one of those children, but I do not abuse my ability to play these video games. Now, back to the central idea. It depends on the kid if their parents allow them to play these video games. I mean, if the child had gotten a psychological and it had definitely not been positive, do not allow him to play these video games. Crazy kids can get ideas from these video games and find a gun, I do not know how, and manage to murder innocent human beings which is terrible. You see, I am not like that. Anyways, I do believe it depends on the personality of the child and the mentality of the child, also.

I have to say, it depends on the kid, and how mature he or she is. For some, those types of games filled with violence and such can have a bad influence on how they act, but others don't let it have a negative effect on them and simply treat is as a game - which is what it is.

It all comes down to one thing. It depends on how the parents feel about certain games and whether or not they should play them. Some parents are protective and keep their kids away from violent and suggestive games. However, there are those parents that really don't care what their kids are playing. They let their 7 year olds play GTA5. Truthfully, I wouldn't worry if my kid was playing those games as long as I looked over the content and either approved of it, or not.

I agree that there are certain games that should be held off from kids until they demonstrate a certain level of maturity. At such a young age, where the notions of right and wrong are forming, seeing the killing as fun can't come to any good.

It's funny cause I was reading the replies I posted to this thread years ago. "KIDS SHOULD ABSOLUTELY ?NOT PLAY SUCH GAMES, BLAME THE SHOPKEEPERS, PERVERTED KIDS"...oh wow. Anyway I think these games are rated M for a reason. Kids might not be influenced to the point of shooting people or whatever it is that these games show but I think it does spark curiosity on most things society deems inapropriate.

I really think it has to do with the child.
I have a 7 year old cousin who plays all the worst games, but doesn't seem effected in the least.
But I also have a 12 year old cousin.....Lets just say I should burn his console so he wont play them anymore.
