Why all the motion controls?

I think Wii did well, so Microsoft and Sony decided they could try to cash in on it. I read in Game Informer that they liked Kinect, but some of the controls were rather annoying.

Besides that, motion controls are the current technology level that games can use. The next level will probably be more innovative motion controls. After that, the design will be more focused on making you feel like you are the character. The only way to top all of it is what they did with Kaiba's videogame on Yu-Gi-Oh!. In case you haven't seen it, they sat down in a pod and their mind was drawn out of their body and into the virtual world. I guess that's also like Matrix.
