Did anyone freeze to death? That sounds extremely scary yet fun at the same time..

There may have been death. I can't remember. Mostly likely an old person. I've only heard of old people dying on days of extreme temperature conditions. The water on concrete is a little physics trick. It can only be done during cold weather and is most effective when temperatures are below 0.

The volcano in Wyoming... you're not talking about Yellowstone are you?

The United States Geological Survey registered the recent quake in Mexico as a 7.2. Initial reports had it as a 6.9 but it was updated upon further evaluation and reports coming in from the epicenter. I posted a thread about that quake, since I felt it up here in Long Beach.

But yeah, I'm a southern California native so I have been in just about every earthquake in the area since 1984. Biggest one I can remember is Northridge back in 1994, which was a 6.7. It was a pretty nasty quake... broke sections of the freeway, Angel's Stadium, and actually caused an outbreak of Valley Fever (respiratory infection from breathing in kicked up spores). There is a lot of information and pictures on the wikipedia entry for it.

Other than that, once when I was about 3 I remember seeing a giant twister touch down while we were driving to Missouri to visit family. You know it was scary when you can remember outrunning a tornado 22 years after it happened.

I have been in "super" storm before in January,4,2008. The storm had hurricane force winds and lots of flooding. It was the most powerful storm I have seen in my life. It caused lots of power outages, trees falling down, and probably damages to some houses.

@ Elare - Yes, I was referring to the Super Volcano underneath Yellowstone. When that erupts, the whole world is in trouble. AMAZING Earthquake and twister stories. I'd love to SEE a giant twister. If you see this reply, I'd like to know if the 1994 earthquake effected you and your family at all and if you remember anything about it.

@ JusTReal - Funny deer story. I've seen stuff like that with wild animals on tv before but never heard about it from someone thats experienced it.

@ hoguan - I looked up that storm and i'm reading about it right now.

Living in Minnesota I can remember the situations which Cyro Xero is describing quite well. In fact I remember trick or treating during the ice storm that accompanied the blizzard in '91. As a result of that storm we were without power for four days, some of y friends out in the country were without power for well over a week because of the conditions left by the storm and blizzard.
The closest I have been to natural disasters is probably tornadoes, though lightning did strike the ground about 3 feet behind a cabin in which I was sleeping when I was younger. With the tornadoes, I know of one where my neighbor across the road was watching it from his garage come towards town and it quite literally lifted off the ground while it was in between our house and a neighbors house in an empty lot. It was directly across the street from his house when it lifted and passed over his garage. That is probably the closest I have been to one and known about it at the time. When I was about 13 or so I remember playing golf at the local golf course and my dad ran a stop sign at the t-intersection with his horn blaring as he is sliding the corner. He had recognized me on the tee and realized that I had not noticed that there was a tornado just forming in the field next to me. By the time I got back to the clubhouse the sirens were finally going off from town and the warning was going out to all the golfers.

When I was in college in 1996 in Charleston, SC we got hit by Hurricane Fran. I was from MI so I went with my roomate to his parents house near the SC/NC border... Unfortunately this is pretty much where the hurricane made landfall. The roof was getting ripped off slightly and you could see light coming through and tons of rain and hail. We made it through the night but in the morning when we checked things out there was all sorts of damage and big huge boats that were plopped down in the middle of the streets.

I hope to never have to go through anything like that ever again!

I´ve experienced quite a few earthquakes of different sizes, also a few volcanic eruptions and avalanches, no injuries though since ofc with the more dangerous of those the avalanches and the volcanic eruptions I´ve always been at least 100 meters away so nothing has hit me,only a few volcanic eruptions and avalanches but those freaking earthquakes are pretty common but common can be a wide concept.

However with all of this I´ve only had lighting once, but that doesn´t count unless I´m mistaken.

Right now there are some volcanic eruptions going on in Iceland, me and a few others in my family decided to go hiking to see it more up close but not too close ofc XD
