I'll argue it was a poor game, but it wasn't the downfall.

The downfall was their foray into the 3D world.

Sonic is better as a 2D platformer at intense speeds... not this...

I can't blame Sonic Heroes.

While I don't think Sonic Heroes was the downfall of the Sonic franchise, I do think the game was below par with everything that came before it. Regardless, I found the title enjoyable.

The downfall of Sonic can't be attributed to any one game, but the beginning of the end was definitely Shadow the Hedgehog. The series really took a dive with that one, and hasn't been able to recover since.

I've always loved the sonic franchise cause sonic adventure was the first game I've ever played so that might be the reason why I always thought all sonic games I've played were good. Sonic Heroes isn't the best sonic game, but I had fun playing it.

Sonic Team Aka the the same people that work on sonic 1 wanted Sonic Adventure 2 to be their last then shortly after a few other company decided to keep him going which was a bad idea he's now a joke to videogame mascots even though sega isn't around anymore.

Sonic Heroes was a really good game I enjoyed it but I think the downfall started with Sonic the Hedgehog 2006.

I don't know much about Sonic as I grew up as a Nintendo Fanboy, but when I got an Xbox and got the demos from Offical Xbox Magazine I loved the Sonic Heroes demo. Now what I heard Sonic Heroes is actually a good game and the real killer of the Sonic series was Sonic 06.

I guess so... The game, in my opinion, could've improved and be made to be something even better. The team thing, for example. They put so much effort into the team, that you couldn't even do half the things that sonic and his crew usually do. Not only that, but a lot of the levels were way to difficult for that team. Take team Rose for example, they were TERRIBLE. I'll probably never play that game again.

The sonic series started going downhill a long time ago. The downfall started when they tried to put Sonic in 3d and gradually got worse from there. Thankfully there have been a few good sonic games that have come out lately.

The downfall of sonic was the creation  of modern gaming systems (Wii, Xbox, PS3, Wii again)

All the games from that point on suck.

Sonic Heroes was a good game. I used to play it all the time when I was younger, until my data got deleted. I almost beat it. 

No, I think the "Darker and Edgier" Shadow the Hedgehog stared to make the series look like a joke. Sonic Heroes was OK in my opinion because of a plot more like the classic games (minus Metal Sonic at the end) and its adds something different.

No. Sonic '06 was the downfall but Colours and Generations have redeemed sonic's fans.

I think people lost hope for Sonic around '06 to '09.
Let me explain...
2006: Sonic 06: One of the glitchiest, most mess up Sonic games of this generation. It had a lack of Ai, Glitches, and messed up camara angles. The only thing that improved were the graphics.
2007: Sonic and the Secret Ring: The Emeralds were replaced with Rings so that you could turn to a different form called Dark-spine Sonic. I don't even know... Plus, it was to in a boring storybook like manner. I don't like it at all.
2008: Sonic Unleashed: Although this may look like an improvement to the Sonic franchise, it featured night time acts which I found very stupid. They make no sense and are brutally hard at points.
2009: Sonic and the Black Knight: It was better, but giving Sonic a sword, WHAT?! Plus, they did the same thing with the storybook. Pretty cheesy if you ask me...
After all those games, Sonic Colors came and was improved on all of those factors. The game-play is basic and simple. It was a true gift that Sonic fans would actually enjoy. Also, Sonic Generations came out November and it was amazing! I hopefully wish that Sonic can live out the rest of his years having some of the best games to that point.

Too be honest I am just a hug Sonic fan. I do like all of the games that were put out, but I do agree since Sonic 06' came out the games got a little weird. And generations wasn't to bad.

   No. Because i think that sonic hero's was a good game. If anything was the fall of sonic it would be sonic 06. God it was a bad game.

Nah. But then again, it could be due to the fact that Heroes was the first Sonic game I ever played. I guess Shadow the Hedgehog, but I kinda liked that game.

Not at all because Sonic Heroes is one of my favourite games. The downfall of Sonic started with Sonic The Hedgehog 06.

I would call it the last good Sonic game until Colours.

I haven't seen game play, but I have seen the cheesy "power of friendship hurr durr" cut scenes that really turn me away from the game.

Shadow the Hedgehog looks like the polar opposite of Heroes; they wanted it to be darker and edgier by making Shadow say 'Naughty words' and by giving him guns to kill Sonic with, sounds okay, but a bit annoying since Sonic really doesn't need to be darker and edgier.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) looks like it could had kicked some major butt, however, the rushed development cycle that made the game look extremely buggy and unfinished; even by just watching someone play, and the creepy, cringe-inducing interspecies relationship between Sonic and Elise makes this game an obvious failure at launch.

Sonic Unleashed has decent Daytime Stages, but Night time is way too annoying; especially if you have the Wii version, which I unfortunately have.

Sonic 4 and up really shows that SEGA is really making an improvement in the quality of Sonic's video games, or at the least, not make them as ridiculous with guns, swords, lycanthropy, interspecies, or THE SUPER POWER OF TEAMWORK!!!
