So, I collect football cards. I haven't really touched them in almost 5 years, due to depression and just not having time. But, I am planning on reorganizing all of them into a completely new organizational format when I move, starting in September.
However, I can say what the most valuable card I've ever had was. I had Lamar Jackson's 2018 National Treasures "True" RPA ( /99 ). Even had part of the Ravens shield logo, so supposedly, it was a "secret" /3 within the /99 True RPA. Supposedly, ever play one one where the logo was in 3 pieces, but in the Ravens case, they have the Ravens head, and the old shield. Anyways, I thought Lamar was going to be a bust. So, in the breaks I was buying into, I was splitting the cost with another guy who was hunting Lamars. He wouldg get Lamar, and I would get the rest of the Ravens. We usually split it 50/50. Well, Nationals Treasures came out, and we split the first box like we normally did. We weren't expecting a 2nd box to be broken out that night, so I grabbed the Ravens, and asked if he didn't mind if I kept the Ravens. He said as long as I gave him first dibs if I hit any Lamars if I wasn't going to keep it, then no problem with him. So, we went ahead, and lo and behold, I hit the True RPA with a piece of the Shield patch. Ended up selling it to the guy for $1500 in cash and cards. Was supposed to be $800 in PayPal, and $700 in Ed Reed Autos. The card was still with the breaker, and I trusted the guy I usually split the Ravens with that year because we had done dozens of deals over the course of a few years. Well, he only ever sent $100 on PayPal; at least he sent the Ed Reed autos and patch cards. After bugging him for a about a year, and getting him kicked out of the groups we were both in for him scamming me, I finally let his debt go, since he claimed he was having money issues, and I just wanted to be done with it. Turned out, he had been buying into breaks in groups I wasn't in, and had already sold my Lamar to another guy for $2500 before we had even reached an agreement. Of course, as soon as I forgave him, he got unbanned in the Facebook groups I wasn't too active in, and started buying a ton.
After about 2 years, the exact same card popped up on eBay for $15,000. Turns out, it was on the 4th owner: Me > Scammer > 3rd Party > Guy who now owns it on eBay. The breaker actually found out about it, and messaged me, asking if it was my card. It was, so I messaged the guy, and told him the story. Told him that I wasn't trying to get it back, that the police report would be way to much hassle. I just asked how he got it, and what he send back matched up to what I knew. A few days later, he took the card down. So, I messaged him, saying again that I wasn't trying to get it back, but just wanted to know why he took it down. He said he had sold it to somebody in person, for 20 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!
I'm still livid about it, 7 years later.
