It's time to vote on who you all think would make the best moderators for the new moderator team based on all the applications submitted to this thread:
https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=101020

Here's how this is going to work

Respond to this thread with up to 5 users you think would do a great job. The more users you choose, the less weight your votes have. So if you feel really strongly about someone, then choose to only vote on 1 or 2 users.

You should give a brief reason as to why you picked the users that you did. If you give no reason at all, your votes may end up not counting. But also don't give too big of a response for your reasons, because then you risk no one wanting to read your lengthy responses.

If you strongly agree with someone's reason for their voting, give their post a Like. If you strongly disagree, give it a Dislike. If a post has a negative rating, I'll review it and might consider not accepting the vote.

Here's what determines the weight of your vote

The weight of a vote depends on the user and how many votes that user makes. Users who have a high rank, been around for a long time, and have a high post count, will have a vote with more weight. This is fair because those users should have a bigger impact on the results since they're more familiar with the community and have a higher reputation compared to someone who just registered with the single purpose of altering the results.

Here's the formula for figuring out the weight of your vote:
User Level * Power Level

And if you have multiple votes, it'd look like this:
(User Level * Power Level) / Vote Count

The User Levels can be viewed from their profile and also next to their posts to the left. A User Level is based on how long a user has been here and how many posts they have.

Here's the numbers that represent each Power Level:
0 = Newbie
1 = Normal
2 = Trusted
3 = Elite
4 = Site Staff

I'm going to use legacyme3 as an example of how his points would be distributed. legacyme3 is at level 246 and is an Elite user so that's 246 * 3 = 738. The weight of his vote is 738, which is probably higher than anyone else, so he's an extreme case. If he chose to vote for 3 people instead of 1, then it'd be 738 / 3 = 246. Now the weight of each of his 3 votes would be 246.

Rules
-Can't vote for yourself
-Can't vote for more than 5 people
-Give a brief reason for your picks
-Posts with negative ratings will be investigated and potentially ignored

I realize this is all kinda confusing but it's the best way to avoid voting fraud and it helps ensure that the best users for the job are selected.

Voting ends on December 13th.

Alright, these are my picks...

Light Knight..
He's been around Vizzed since the very beginning in 2004, and been part of the entire mod team for majority of that entire time frame, so he knows a thing or two on how the entire site works, and that amount of experience that Light Knight has, he's a perfect fit to be a mod once again, even at Global level.

---

Geeogree..
I got to go with the Green Blob with returning to the mod team once again, when he was operating VIzzed as an Admin, he made sure that a lot of people follows the rules of the site, or otherwise, they would be punished with his bans. I like to see Geeo have another run in the modding department once again

---

EX Palen...
I have been in contacts with Palen for quite a long time, and his contributions that he has been putting onto Vizzed is quite phenomenal if you ask me, and in fact, in the last TdV, is was tough to compete against Palen, seriously. I think that Palen would be a great fit to return to the modding team again.

I'd like to suggest another rule:

No editing of posts. For any reason. Whatsoever.

It would be easy for someone like me, for example, to say the name of a single popular member everyone wanted to become mod, have it be massively liked, and then edit my vote to be 5 people they wouldn't agree with.

I'm not sure how I'm going to vote yet... I have to say I wasn't expecting a weighted voting system, especially since it appears my vote may matter a ton.

I am completely against using user level for a system of voting. I know you said you're basing it off user level due to wanting to give the most influence to people who are prevalent within the community. But sometimes people with very high post counts are some of the most controversial members on the site.

Overall I don't like giving influence to people solely based on post counts and post length out of principle. It could potentially serve to reward fake activity rather than meaningful interaction as people who may have spam posted in the past could have a lot of influence based on this system.

Lastly this also completely disregards other types of activity within the vizzed community that is not posting, like activity in the chatroom, RGR/VGR and competitions. I hope you may consider changing the system to one solely based on power levels, possibly in conjunction with some limit for how long a user needs to have been registered to prevent mass reregging.

Alright, time to get my votes out of the way.

1: Lexatom

He has been someone I've known for a long while, while he is infamous for a lot of things, and I mean A LOT, he has matured enough to me to think he would be a good choice as a mod, he is also a very fun person to be around, but would also know when to put his foot down.

That's all I've really would see, others I haven't had as much time to talk to consecutively to get a decent opinion.

Ok....time to get this over and done with. It was hard to choose believe me it was. So please do not take offense if I didn't vote for you ok? I voted for the best candidates that would do a great job as a mod.

My first vote goes to leggy. Why? Because he has experience and the knowledge as a mod. He's not a friend of mine but that doesn't mean that I dislike him as well. He's rough around the edges but no one is perfect. He's done a lot for the site previous before and I can see from his post that he cares and wants to make the site a better place. Voting shouldn't be based on popularity it should be about who you chose to see fit to do the job. I can go to him in pm with a problem that is giving me trouble he will explain from his perspective as of what he thinks up front. And he says that I don't have to take on board what he says, but if the advice is useful to me by all means keep it.

My second vote goes to... Lunar. He was quite the troublemaker in the past, but then gradually saw his wrong doings and in recent years became mature. He's a growing steady boy but he can do more if he gets that opportunity that's what I believe.

My third vote is for trixz2007 he is not well known on the boards but he's more of a behind the scenes guy he does something you don't know that can actually help the board. You don't need to be well known to be a mod there are other ways to go around of being one and I believe if given the chance that he will do it to the best of his abilities.

Davideo7 : I'm going to vote later but for now I just wanna point out a flaw. All newbie votes are worthless with this system since anything times 0 is 0. Scoring 1-5 makes more sense or grouping the first 2 levels to a 1x multiplier.

I'm going to get my voting out of the way now.

Igorbird - I always thought he was a great mod and should have been given a higher rank.

Light Knight - another great former mod who I would trust to do what is best for Vizzed.

Zerotails - another former mod who was always fair.

Ex Palen - if it wasn't for the post/thread quota he probably would have been a mod up to the day David demoted everyone. Definitely think he'd be a good mod again.

Fyredove - I need to pick someone new and I thought she did a good job on the MC server dealing with hooligans like me so she should also do well as a mod on the forum.

Unfortunately there aren't too many new people to pick from who haven't been mods and the ones that haven't been mods I'm not overly familiar with right now.

Good luck everyone!

I needed time to look over the list again and make sure that I'm 100% sure with who I'm voting for. Here's my votes:

geeogree - He made some very poor decisions towards the end of his time as an admin/mod, but I still feel that based on my own interactions with him, his overall impact as a higher up, and based on the amount of time he's had to reflect on past decisions, geeo is the user I feel the most comfortable voting for.

Zlinqx - I feel that he did a very good job in his time as a mod. I never admitted this before, but I'm still surprised that he didn't get picked to be a global mod back in 2016. Looking back, he probably would've been a better pick for that position than me. I have full confidence in him.

m0ssb3rg935 : Looking back, I'd have to say that he's the most level-headed moderator I had the opportunity to work with. He's my 3rd pick, but for this new era in Vizzed history, he just might be the most deserving individual of a spot on the mod team. I feel that even though he had one of the shortest applications, it's also in my opinion the most accurate and true description of who he was as a mod and of what he will bring in the future as well if given the opportunity.

Well since my vote won't count a lot anyway I'm going to vote for one person instead of making my points worth even less, as much as I wanted to vote for at least 3 people

I've decided to vote for furret because I believe he was and would be a good local mod and be good for the staff team.

After looking over my options closely, I've decided to go with these names in no particular order:

1. zanderlex - At the end of the day, I asked myself what I believe is the most important quality for a moderator to have in this new "era" of moderators. Activity is down. We need activity. Ergo, we should promote people who are active, and thereby promote activity as a positive thing in the community. Only three people who applied have more activity than zander over the past month. Over the past year, though, none of these users were above him (two other applicants were, but their recent activity is lower than zander's). Having been able to speak with him on multiple occasions, I know that very very few people have the time, the ability, and the drive to do the job of local moderator like Zander. If this is Vizzed's redemption, then Zander deserves his own.

2. Lexatom - My rationale for voting for him is much like my rationale for zanderlex. I believe he too has his own redemption to earn, and I think he's got enough time, ability, and drive to do the job better than previous moderators. If I'm not mistaken, he's never been a moderator. I think mostly non-moderators should be given the chance to prove themselves this time around, since clearly, the older moderation groups have had their issues. Lex and I have had our fair share of... disagreements over the past few years, but I truly believe he knows that he has work to do in the maturity department. My hope is that by surrounding him with more mature team members (who I'll be voting for momentarily), he'll grow, as both a moderator and as a person. I believe mostly, though, that he believes in the mission statement of "fun".

3. Furret - Furret has several functions in that I believe he makes a perfect choice. For starters, he doesn't live in America, so he allows us to hit a time zone where other staff members may not be as alert or active. He is also one of the single most mature people to apply this time around, which is saying something, considering the advanced age of some of the rest of us to apply. I believe Furret is a great communicator, who everyone can communicate with, without issues. In a new community, where we need to rely on the moderators and David to communicate with the community, we need users like Furret at the forefront, who can both speak, and listen, and put in the work to make sure that the middle line is being met. He's also wicked funny, and personality does matter.

4. m0ssb3rg935 - I believe whole-heartedly that someone from the previous mod team NEEDS to be on the staff, as a form of continuity. Moss represents the best of this lot, because he is wise beyond his years, and has boat loads of maturity, considering what he has to deal with in his life. I agree with his statement that quotas are not important to moderation. I do think that users should be active, but there are multiple ways a user can be active, without fulfilling a quota. Numbers don't mean a whole lot, when you are trying to make a community worth engaging with. Moss can provide a perspective that the other applicants just won't be able to. From everything I've heard, the most recent mod team was unlike any in the site's history, and having someone who witnessed first hand the mistakes of the staff can go a long way to fixing said issues.

5. Barathemos - Now I said this wasn't in any particular order, and that's mostly true. The exception is this slot. I was considering a handful of other users, but I only have five votes, and wanted to make sure I was sure of who I wanted here before I posted. I've chosen Barathemos over what would appear to be more qualified candidates for one simple reason, I just believe he wants it more. He logs in frequently, is available constantly, and has Vizzed set as his home page. Fun needs to be the focus, but it's also important to have people keeping their eyes on everything. We don't need master chefs, we need a team of capable and quality users who can ditch their ego at the door. Barathemos, to me, represents a great story of growth in general on Vizzed. I remember when I first met him six years ago, and he SUCKED. Now, I'd probably share a beer with him if he were legal. I don't just share a beer with anyone. He may be my last pick, but I do believe him to be on the same level as the other four I have picked, and hope this statement does not besmirch anyone's opinion of him in the slightest. He's had trouble in the past, but nearly everyone who applied has.

Apologies to the like 5 other users I wanted to vote for, but couldn't. Them's the breaks :/

My votes are for Minuano and Furret. I don't believe they have the biggest qualifications of the lot. What I do feel they have is kindness. And I value that more than I do any "qualifications" that might allow them to do a "good job". A good job is valuable work. Work that brings people together. And while I don't necessarily believe these two to be the hardest workers, I believe they have the attitude and aptitude to handle the positions they would be given.

Dunno what the due date is and I dont particularly agree with the voting system, but might as well get my vote in.

I'm voting for Minuano.

Minuano has been on Vizzed for as long as I've been here (pretty sure might need to fact check that) and he's shown through his actions that although he is capable of having fun at times, he is also fully able to be mature. I believe he will do a great job as a mod, maintaining the rules while also increasing the activity of the site and thinking his actions through before doing them.

I'm voting for My votes go to these two fantastic fellas.

MINUANO

and

Lexatom

These two users are extremely devoted to the community, and care deeply about the site. And out of the applicants, these two are some of the only ones I consider trustworthy.

Minuano - I can tell he cares a lot about the website. He was also active on the site for a very long time and recently became active again. I don't remember if he was a moderator in the past, but I've seen him as a moderator on other websites and he does an excellent job. He's firm and doesn't pick favorites, but he's definitely understanding and kind.

Zlinqx - Used to be a moderator, honestly one of the most mature people I know. He can really connect with anyone so I feel like he's a great choice for a moderator people can trust. He did an excellent job in the past, so I believe he can do an excellent job in the present/future.

Light Knight - Save the best for last, right? This is a no-brainer. He knows the site inside and out and has been on Vizzed since before many of our users were even born. Light Knight is arguably the best moderator we've ever had. He's hard-working, fair, and I have never heard any controversies or complaints of him.

Minuano. Reason being I think he has a lot to offer the site, he’s a long time user/has experience as a local so he knows what he’s doing, and he can help bring Vizzed back to its glory days.

I've been thinking about it all day at work, and now that I'm finally home, I can cast in my votes now. Bear in mind, I do NOT vote for people because I am friends with them. I only vote for who I believe to be a good fit for the future of Vizzed.

1. Minuano - Yes, he created the infamous pizza time thread, but disregarding that fact, I truly do believe that Minuano has both the time, activity, and right attitude for a future moderator. He has shown this in the past, and I believe he can do an even better job currently at getting the site back on its feet.

2. m0ssb3rg935 - Moss has stuck with Vizzed even during the big decline this year, and from what I have both heard and seen, he was a spectacular moderator, and I cannot imagine Vizzed without him being a part of the team.

3. Light Knight - Light Knight has shown tremendous potential in what he can do as a moderator, both in the past and present. He is both a really fun guy to be talking to and knows when to take action, and has years of experience.

4. Boured - Boured has shown HUGE potential to become a great part of the staff on Vizzed. He has been a part of the site for many years now and has been in a Site Staff position before. If given the chance, he could became a great asset to the team.

5. supernerd117 - I've known Super for a while and I think he would be a really great choice for the team. He's kind, and just an all around great guy who seems like he really gets along well with the community.

Light Knight : He's been on vizzed forever. He's very trustworthy to everyone on the board and has been a staff already for a very long time.

Eniitan : Also very trustworthy around the site. Always friendly to people. Also been a site staff on vizzed as well.

geeogree : Pretty much the same way I feel about Light Knight.

Good Luck!

In the event that this system of voting remains unchanged I'll go ahead and cast my votes.

supernerd117

Quite honestly one of the kindest and most mature members I've seen on the site, and also one that I think would be dedicated to the job. I think he would try his best to create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere which is what I feel vizzed needs right now. He has never been mod and I feel it is easy for him to slip by unnoticed during the mod election because of some of the prominent people applying, but having always been in good standing with the site and never being given an opportunity I think he definitely deserves a shot.

m0ssb3rg935

He has been a moderator for quite a while now and stuck with the site through thick thin so he certainly has a good amount of experience and dedication. I've always respected his ability as a mediator, being able to remain calm and view a problem from both the perspective of a staff member and a regular user. I think this makes him a perfect fit given the state vizzed is currently in.

Minuano

He is one of the longest running active members, he knows the community well and truly does seem like he cares for the site. Although he has been a mod in the past for a short time he was limited by the existance of the CP quota. Aside from his experience I feel like he could contribute by serving as a sort of breath of fresh air on the mod team.

There are more people I want to vote for but I'm going to hold out simply to add some more weight based on the current system.
