Tour de Vizzed Updates

New Banner: Gray for Veterans
As of last Winter, there's a new banner competition for veteran users. Any user who has been registered for more than 7 years qualifies for this competition. It functions very similar to the White Banner. Additionally, a user can only win the Gray Banner competition once.

Biannual: Every 6 Months
The Tour de Vizzed went biannual last winter. That means it'll only happen 2 times a year instead of 4 times a year like it previously was. The TdV will happen every January and July. Adjustments to this may be made in the future but we'll be testing this out for at least a year to see how it goes.



Here's some brief TdV info:

Each day there will be 4 Jerseys you can compete for:
Yellow Jersey: Most words in a day
Blue Jersey: Most posts in a day
Red Jersey: Most CP in a day
Green Jersey: Most CP actions in a day

If you get 1st place in a Jersey for a day, you get to "wear" that Jersey the following day. To "wear" it means that the background of your username will have a unique background graphic. Only the top 5 places of each Jersey gets points, 1st gets 5 and 5th gets 1. Whoever has the most points for any Jersey at the end of the competition gets to wear that Jersey for the entire next month. If you have more than 1 jersey, your jersey receives stripes for each jersey color you own.

Along with the Jerseys are Banners that change your username color. They basically represent who has the most points total:
Rainbow Banner: Whoever has the most points so far in the competition
White Banner: New member who has the most points so far in the competition (anyone who has signed up in the past 3 months)
Gray Banner: Veteran member who has the most points so far in the competition (anyone who signed up more than 7 years ago)

Tour de Vizzed Rules:

You'll be DQ'd if:
-More than 25% of your daily posts are made in one of the following forums: Crazy House, Vizzed Market, Polls and Questions, Video Game Craziness, Newbie Forum (unless posts are made in your own thread then it's 50%)
-You copy content from other websites or other posts
-You use the "tabbing" technique to make a bunch of posts in a short amount of time
-You're caught cheating or unfairly earning Contribution Points
-More than 25% of your daily posts are made in the same thread (your own thread and staff threads are an exception)
-If 50% or more of your daily words are posted in the final hour of the day
-Staff members are not allowed to feature their own reviews during the Tour de Vizzed

Additionally:
If you get DQ'd just once from a Jersey, you can no longer get points for that Jersey for the rest of the month. We will be very strict from now on with the Tour de Vizzed. Only CP actions which you earned CP off of count toward the Green Jersey.

If you get DQ'd from too many Jerseys in too many TdV competitions, you'll be DQ'd from the TdV forever. Also, if you get DQ'd from a single Jersey in too many competitions, you'll be DQ'd from that specific Jersey forever.

Also, if 50% or more of your daily words are posted in the final hour of the day, you'll be DQ'd from the Yellow Jersey. Too many users have waited until the end of the day to submit a bunch of reviews to the site and that's unfair to users competing.

Moving Ebay Listings for the time being does not count toward any of the Jerseys. The price guide feature hasn't been retrieving ebay listings in nearly 2 years because of ebay updating their scripts and me not finding the time to update my own scripts to reflect that so what I've been doing instead is, every few months, I buy a price guide from PriceCharting.com and batch add the data to the games. There's no reason to allow it to count since it's not beneficial to the site at all since all of those ebay listings are very outdated and those prices no longer reflect what's current.



Additional Tour de Vizzed Info:

Some CP actions only count as 1 per day. In other words, any action in the below list can only increase your Green Jersey points by 1:
Forum Navigation, Review Rated, User Referral Posted, Video Rated, Post Spell Checked, Visiting Vizzed, Screenshot Rated, Post, Game Commenting, Thread, Thread Reply, Chat Room Minute, Staff Forum Post, Staff Forum Thread and Screenshot Details Added.

These CP actions do not count toward the Green Jersey: Game Content.

Each day there will be a specific CP action which will be worth doubled the points which benefits the Red Jersey competition. Below is a list of which actions are worth doubled on which days this month:

Let the games begin!

I guess that the Gray Banner is better placed at 7+ years upon registration, because making it 5+ like the usual meaning of veteran is would englobe way too many users currently active.

Let's see how this edition turns out. Life is very busy now, so I won't be able to push hard. I'm barely hanging on to my staff role to the point I'm almost one week behind schedule, and that explains mostly everything. We shall see if my wordy nature won't net me another Yellow jersey, but that's all.

If there's still anyone out there willing to do a good result in the TdV, I'd say this is your chance. I won overall and two jerseys in January, not without lots of effort and a near burnout by the end of the month, but with an activity level much lower than what was needed to even fight for an overall jersey not that long ago, so even if you aren't capable of a strong pace you may still have your shot at winning something this summer.

Good luck to everyone who decides to participate! I hope we get a bit more activity than January to pick things up, it would be a shame to see summer kneel before winter.

Well, the first TdV since my return and the question that should be asked.

Shall The IB compete or shall The IB not compete... That is the question.

aint no way im gonna be missing this one, i failed in the lasts ones to even place, need to win at least one jersey color

Kind of curious to see if this TDV is actually active.

More than halfway through day 1... it appears not.

Oh well. At least with these being bi-annual, instead of quarterly, there's a chance that the layoff has inspired interest in others to post.

EX Palen :

Sure, but pushing it back to 7 doesn't change a whole ton, either way. David is by far the most active "veteran" for obvious reasons. I don't see anyone but David winning, regardless of how many months you set the cut-off point as.

I mean, it lessens the competition for the banner.

Counting myself, there are six users who have made at least five posts in the past 30 days, and qualify for the banner, if I counted correctly. And I can safely say most of those 6 won't be competing, and have only posted that much because that's their normal posting habits (myself, JigSaw, and AuraBlaze, that is).

Competition seems to be David, supernerd, and tRIUNE?

Hope some vets come back to make it interesting.

I'm good with the 7 year rule for Gray Banner. Makes sense. 

I doubt I'll compete much, but we'll see. It really depends on how difficult it will be to get the rainbow after about 10 or 15 days into this thing. 

how do i actually make a banner to represent the team color? can anyone help me out

legacyme3 : I'm not that sure that David has Gray won no matter what. His overall activity surely is the highest, but checking the users who placed ahead of him in January when the banner debuted, one already qualifies for 7+ years and two more would qualify for 5+, and we can even add a third user qualifying for 5+ who finished right behind David not too far away.

From that, we can deduce that he could even stay out of the top 5 for that banner if he set the rule at five years, given the comebacks that have happened and the users who have "earned their qualification" in between competitions, so it does make a difference where we place the cut-off for Gray.

All signs may point to David winning this banner again, but we can't say for sure yet. His regular activity is nothing but the bar others have to surpass if they want to win the banner, and we've seen it's perfectly possible to do such feat, so let's keep our hopes up for the first week or so until enough points have been distributed.

I've never really tried to compete in the TDV... ever. If I win something then cool but I doubt I will win anything. I feel lazy, unmotivated and I give up already!

EX Palen : I wonder if David can DQ himself from the gray banner, and let others get that gray banner, but if he's gone, the question that needs to be asked, who would be the one that would get the gray banner anyways because most of the users that's been here 7 years or more probably be lucky to score 10 points in the month.

Although it won't be new because afterall, we had this happened in the Newbie sector where we had no winners and the White banner was vacated.

Who knows, David could be the permanent Gray Banner holder every TdV.

id say day one of the tour de vizzed wasnt too bad, got some points at least for the blue jersey team, but however i will stay in the top 5 for as long as i can 

So since a user can only compete once in the White Banner competition, I've made it so that you can only win the Gray Banner competition once. This also gives others a chance to win it besides me.

A slow start. Help us make this month epic!

Not the most incredible of starts, but less than 48 hours ago the board displayed 4 posts in the last 24 hours whereas now it displays 40+, so if we stay with the positive things the increase in activity is there. Let's see if we can at least maintain it throughout the whole month, and increasing it further would be very good news.

I'm surprised I won two seven pointers yesterday. I had expected people to catch up and pass me, but being day one maybe made people unwilling to keep participating due to someone starting with a noticeable lead. I hope I didn't misplay there and kill the competition, because I won't probably fight even for top 5 due to busy life.

I can see the logic with the Gray Banner, you eventually fall out of "qualifying" for White whereas Gray is a permanent one. I'm okay with disabling any past winners from participating ever again, after all every competition we get a new wave of qualified users that join the fight and so we will have different people competing from time to time.

Let's hope things do pick up later on. I won't be able to do much besides my regular activity netting me some jerseys here and there, but I hope we do see someone aiming at something.

Davideo7 : I know I was mostly kidding a bit about DQing yourself (just another one of those IBism posts), but if you think that is a good idea to have others a chance to get the gray banner, that would be good.

EX Palen : I forgot about the whole 7-pointer rule, if that 7-pointer wasn't in effect, we both would of been tied with 15 points each.

You know, I was 50/50 in competing this month, and I didn't even put in any effort in the competition, and all of a sudden, I got both yellow and blue yesterday.

Hope things does pick up real soon, because it this activity stays extremely low, this month's winner might end up winning without them putting any effort into it.

Wait, what exactly do you mean that the Grey Banner can only be won once? Do you mean that we are only eligable for it once, or that we can only win it once? Can you not compete in it again if you get top 5, or just win it outright? I just want some clarification on this.

Instead of a user "never" being able to win again, why not have a "cool down" period?

If a user has won in the past 4 contests (two years) they are no longer eligible to win it.

I think that makes more sense, personally, but that's just me.
