Holy crap. The discrimination banner is being waved around more often than the American flag.

OK, let's get this straight: The school has a set price for single attendees to the prom (I'm surprised there is such a demographic :p ) but couples get a discount...

Apparently boy/boy and girl/girl couples don't get this discount because people might use it to get a discount.

OK, this isn't discrimination, this is just plain stupidity. Any boy could bring a girl they don't know so they could get a discount. I'll ask a random girl to do it. Just watch me.

Have any of you actually considered that this may have happened before? Boys bringing boys they don't know to get a discount? Maybe it happens more often than fake boy/girl couples. It's not discrimination, it's just a bad policy.

Elara, you in particular seem to be blowing this out of proportion. I'm not pissed off at this because #1 this isn't real discrimination, and #2 this is debate and logic discussion, not the argument and pissed rant discussion.

On a related note, this person was obviously in a bad relationship. If you're not willing to spend a little money to take your girl to the prom you don't deserve her and it's as simple as that. I know that if I was in a gay relationship and my guy threw this much of a fuss instead of paying for the frigging ticket I would break up with him. Again, just watch me.

Coming from someone that has most likely never experienced discrimination, your statement doesn't surprise me. Did you actually bother to read the article or are you just going off of the other people's posts?

Lesbo girl wants to take her girlfriend to the dance.... why not just buy the couples tickets and take her with you and not deal with the issue with the school because she shouldn't have had to do that in the first place. She should be able to just buy a couples ticket and they should be able to go together. THAT is what I would have done. Then you can make a big stink about it in front of the whole school instead of doing it privately.... that would have been more fun! Maybe even invite some camera crews along to film the whole thing and then make a documentary about how screwed up and backwards people are in Mississippi.

If you want to exaggerate that to say I said that Christian white males can't be discriminated against that is your deal but I never said that and I do not appreciate you putting words in my mouth. And I'd see more people complaining about doing it your way because that is the attention whore way. She tried to take care of if legally and quietly and the school flipped out, so we have to condemn her for it? How dare she try to act mature?

And for the record, just because you don't want to admit that discrimination exists doesn't mean that it isn't there. People complain about it because it happens. If you want to insist that everyone is faking it then most likely you're either one of the few people in the universe who've never experienced it or your just so self-centered that you don't care unless it happens to you.
