Kirby: Planet Robobot Featured Review

Kirby: Planet Robobot Review by: Lexatom - 9.3/10

Kirby in a Robot? SOLD!!
Kirby Planet Robobot was released on June 10, 2016 in North America for the Nintendo 3DS. It
has similar gameplay and artwork style to the last canon Kirby game that was released, Kirby
Triple Deluxe. Planet Robobot may be similar to the last game, but with every Kirby game comes
a new mechanic. For example, in Return to Dreamland, you had the super abilities. In Triple
Deluxe, you had Hypernova. And now, in Planet Robobot, you have a mechanical suit of armor
that can also use copy abilities. Yes please. You've heard me praise this game before, so let's delve further into the reasons I love this game so much, and why I regard it as the best Kirby game in the series so far.

Graphics - 10/10
Triple Deluxe introduced the concept of switching between the background and foreground with
the 3D Warp Star. Planet Robobot brings this mechanic back, and it's just as cool as ever.
The graphics without the 3D look amazing, but with the 3D on, they're even better. Although,
I tend to not use 3D on my first playthrough, it helps me see better. Oh, I almst forgot to talk about one of the new sub-games, Kirby 3D Rumble. Before I talk more about this, a short story must be addressed. Long ago, sometime around the year 2003 I think, HAL wanted to bring Kirby into a full 3D world. However, they had trouble with this. They made many prototypes, and one such prototype was almost exactly like the sub-game, Kirby 3D Rumble. Kirby can now finally move in any direction with the circle pad. Perhaps we could see a potential full 3D Kirby game one day?

Sound - 10/10
The music in Planet Robobot is as good, if not better, than the music in Triple Deluxe. Since
Planet Robobot has a big theme about industrialization and mechanics, there are plenty of tracks in the game that support it perfectly. In addition to new songs, they remixed many other songs from past Kirby games. One of my favorite remixes comes from Kirby's Dream Land 2. I can't say the name of the song, due to spoilers, but it is a very good example of a remix.

Addictiveness - 8/10
The Robobot Armor would have been pretty bland and boring if they did not give it the ability
to copy just like Kirby can. There are many different modes, as the game calls it, that the
armor can go into. It doesn't cover all of the ability in the game, but it covers most of
them, and that's fine with me. The game uses a good mix of using the armor and just being
Kirby. They also added a lot of mechanics specifically made for the armor, just like they did
with the Hypernova ability in Triple Deluxe. Also just like in Triple Deluxe, they work really
well.

Story - 10/10
The story for Kirby Planet Robobot is amazing. Probably one of the saddest, in my opinion. I can't say why it's sad though, because, again, spoilers. What really gets me into the story is that "surprise" at the end. It's really hard to talk about this game without spoiling anything, so I highly suggest for you to get the game yourself and play it.

Depth - 9/10
Just like with Triple Deluxe, you have the choice of collecting many objects throughout the game. The objects this time are Code Cubes. In addition to Code Cubes, you can also collect stickers, similar to how you could collect keychains in Triple Deluxe. The difference between stickers and keychains, is that you can decorate the Robobot Armor with stickers. And there are a TON of stickers, so finding a design you like shouldn't bee too hard. Once you beat the final boss, you unlock the Arena, and another mode that I can't say yet. Once you beat those two modes, the True Arena is unlocked. Plenty of things to do in this game, but it can get done pretty fast.

Difficulty - 7/10
Honestly, this game wasn't that hard to me. That is, until I got to the True Arena. Oh boy. That True Arena, let me tell you. The True Arena in this game is the hardest True Arena I've played, no joke. There is a secret boss at the end of the True Arena, but before that secret boss, you have to fight a powered up version of the final boss, which takes a lot of practice. But when you practice, you die. When you die, you have to restart the True Arena. I'm not going to let the difficulty rating affect the overall rating that much.

Overall - 9.3/10
This review tells you why I find this to be the best Kirby game in the series thus far. I have almost nothing but praise for this game, despite the very few flaws I find with it. I highly recommend this game to you. The Kirby series turns 25 years old next year. Perhaps the next canon Kirby game will surpass this one? Thanks for reading this review!

Kirby: Planet Robobot Game Description

Harness the power of a mysterious mech to stop ruthless invaders from mechanizing Kirby's home world. Smash through tough obstacles, lift heavy objects with ease, and scan enemies to shape-shift into new Modes with powerful abilities in this supercharged action-platformer!

That's right—Kirby's Robobot Armor can shape-shift into different modes by scanning enemies to copy their moves—like the new Jet Mode. Not to mention, Kirby™ can copy abilities the old-fashioned way too—by inhaling them! After saving the world, team up with three friends to defeat foes in Team Kirby Clash, an RPG-styled 4-player brawl where you choose from varied roles and level them up.
