WWF Wrestlefeast Review   Vizzfan23
Hello all of you gamers and arcade loving people in the world. My name is Vizzfan23 and this is my WWF WrestleFest retro game review. I hope I'm not the only WWF/WWE fans on this webpage that loves the Wrestlefest arcade game. Now for those who have read my previous review i went over NFL Blitz 2001 for the Nintendo 64 which a whole different beast then the classic arcade machine. So please bear with me here as we begin my second review.
Do you remember back in the day when going to the arcade was the only way to play a video game. I may have not been able to live in a time where this was the only way to game but I do know that the games that where created have made a lasting mark on everybody that was heard of them. The arcades brought us many good games including the original Mortal Kombat, Street fighter, and yes even Mario but the one arcade game that left the biggest impression on my heart was WWF Wreslefest.
The graphics on this game where some of the greatest ever produced by an arcade machine. Before this game and the creation of the arcade machine the main character of many games where either pixelated people or just random objects that where given the power of movement. But this game brought us the first full sized models of actual people with a ton of different colors and designs which lead to the perfect arena. Well this is mainly true inside of the ring while on the outside it is a completely different experience. When you or your opponents is tossed over the ropes the arena completely transforms into a very cramped misshaped arena. On top of that all of the beautiful colors that you see on the inside of the ring are now all mixed up and make the outside of the ring look completely different from the inside. Even with these faults I think that the graphics of this game really deserve a very nice 8 out of 10 rating.
Now where there are terrific graphics don't you think that terrific sound effects should be included, right? Well in this case it you are wrong. I really thought that when I started this game that the punches and kicks would sound real but, I was very right. The punches are do sound like your superstar is actually punching a real person. This is also true for the running sounds and the kicking movements but the same could not be said for the superstars. One of the greatest examples of this is the Ultimate Warrior. The Ultimate Warrior's voice is a really deep voice that is hard to understand because of the unauthentic voice. This really makes me bring the rating of the sound to a 6 out of 10 rating.
With great graphics and decent sound this arcade game would be nothing without a way to make you come back and play it. This game offers two very different modes that will keep even the most die hard arcade lover playing for hours at a time. The first of these two modes is called the Royal Rumble mode which is where you take control one of the 10 WWF superstars and must fight through a long over the top rope or pin "Battle" Royal. Unlike the other mode in this fine game, this mode provides a high score table which keeps track of how many other superstars you have eliminated. Now I do know that some of the other gamers in the world might want to play with there friends right?Well if you are one of those people, there is a mode made specifically for you. This mode is called the Saturday Night Live mode which lets you form a tag team of your own creation and allows you to climb through the ranks, and lets try to defeat the defending tag team champions which are known as the Road Warriors. I don't think I forgot about the playing with you friends thing because in this you and your friend can try to defeat the Road Warriors as a team. All of these wonderful things will help this games addictiveness get a rating of 7 out of 10.
Now that we have gotten the graphics, sounds, and the addictiveness of this great title out of the way, lets get on to the most important part which is the games story, depth, and difficulty. Lets start off with the story of this game. Do you remember the Saturday Night Live mode that I mentioned earlier? Well that is the story mode of this whole entire game. This wouldn't be a big deal if there where matches to play or something but there isn't. This also effects the depth of the game because it holds back all of the other stuff that could have been added to expand the game play of this terrific game. Yet with what it lacks in depth and a story it makes up with its difficulty. The AI of this game is very good at staying consistent with its play style. Every match will take a little bit of time but the final match against the Road Warriors actually bumps the difficulty of the game up from normal to hard. So with all of these hings effecting each other I am going to give each of these categories a bad 4 out of 10 rating
Finally we have gone over ever aspect of this game but one question is still left unanswered, which is what is my overall rating of this game. Well with all of the rating put into consideration, and with the gameplay and controls involved, I am giving this game a Amazing rating of 9 out of 10 which is very high compared to other games that where played in the arcade like Mortal Kombat (it earned a 8.6) and Street Fighter(it earned a 8.4) which it really deserves. This is one of the greatest games I have ever played and I would high recommend this game to everybody that I know.
So with that, this is the end of another Vizzed.com retro game review. If you know any good games that I should review, just leave a comment below.

Top Wrestling Game   sonicbros
WWF Wrestlefest is one of the finest old school wrestling games, released in 1991 by Japanese company Technos, who also made another fun wrestling arcade game WWF Superstars and they were also the great minds behind the Double Dragon series.
I remember spending all my pocket money (allowance) on this fine game at my local arcade, and constantly playing the Royal Rumble option,it is certainly the more entertaining game option.
There are 2 options to choose from in the game, there is the Royal Rumble, where you select a wrestler and try to be the last one remaining in the match, you can eliminate other wrestlers by pinfall or if you are lucky you can backdrop or bodyslam an opponent out the ring.A minor flaw in the Rumble is that there is a time limit, but if you had enough credits left then you could boost your time back up and your health bar.6 wrestlers are in the ring at one time and once someone is eliminated or disqualified as the commentator says then another makes his way down to the ring,it is all very well done and the Rumble is even more fun in a multiplayer option.
The second game option is Saturday Night's Main Event, where you select 2 wrestlers to make a tag team and go through other tag teams and try to beat the champions, the Legion of Doom, one of the greatest tag teams the WWF had to offer.
Now to get to the wrestlers you can play in this game, there are 10 to choose from, for some reason the Legion of Doom are not selectable, shame really because they are cool. But you do get Hulk Hogan,Ultimate Warrior,The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase(my favourite),Big Boss Man,Sgt. Slaughter,Jake The Snake Roberts,Mr Perfect,Earthquake and the tag team Demolition (Smash and Crush).
These characters were among the most popular in the WWF in 1991,but would of been nice to see the Texas Tornado or British Bulldog, but a good enough roster.
The gameplay is excellent, just button bashing really and with that you pull of some cool moves like suplexes, powerslams and backbreakers, and if you wear your opponent down enough you will do the wrestler's finishing move, like the Ultimate Warrior's Gorilla Press and Warrior Splash or one of the coolest finishing moves to watch,Earthquake's Vertical Splash.
The graphics for the time are superb, all the wrestlers look great, the Legion of Doom look very impressive in one of the game's cut scenes, but in the actual game the animation on all characters look very well made and look just like the real life wrestler,I might be selling the graphics too much here but I find them flawless in this game.
And finally, the sound, the commentary on the game is fun, with the commentator just saying all the moves being done by each wrestler ("Warrior bodyslam","Hulkster suplex") or a favourite quote of mine "Flying from the top rope!".
It's a shame the game was never released on a home console like the Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis, but some fine WWF games did get released on them, but nothing beats this one for me,this is one of the most entertaining WWF games I have played, thanks to it's excellent graphics, simple controls and great 4 player option.Recomended
