Overview: Penguin-kun Wars. An interesting game made by an unknown company, named UPL. That is quite unfortunate, seeing how this games deserves far more love. You are a penguin, participating in a tournament, playing a sport that seems like dodgeball and table tennis combined and collaborated beautifully. Controls: They're actually quite simple. You strategically use the joystick to waddle left or right. You use your given action button to throw the balls. Simple, no? Gameplay: You, in this game, are to advance in a tournament to gain inherent superiority and luscious bragging rights. You start your matches with two 60-second qualifying fights. The goal is to lose all your balls. You can do this through throwing all to the opponent, or having the least balls at the end of your hectic bout. You can adjust the ball's angle for maximum throwing efficiency. Sometimes, an item appears in the middle of the stage. Hitting it ricochets your ball around, either inconveniencing your opponent or benefitting you immensely. Getting hit while throwing slows you down momentarily, so it's best to attack them when they are throwing to benefit your needs. As you get far more strategic, your opponents do too. Caution and strategy are absolutely essential. 8/10 Graphics: This game shines brightly for 1985. Enemies flail around when successfully hit, and have quite a few animations. The graphics are lush and colorful. They are both adequate and charming. 8/10 Sound: The music is decent. Not too boring but not memorable. It fits the mood. The sound effects are delightful, though. 6/10 Addictiveness: The strongest asset to this game, by far, is it's ability to keep you glued to your seat. You will spend hours pouncing and darting around to suceed in your simple mission. You won't be bored, as this game's frantic and heated nature will excite you. This game will sharpen your reflexes and hone your mind, as you fight for your survival. You will get chills and thrills. Never a dull moment. 10/10 Story: This game has little. This penguin just wants to win a tournament; nothing more, nothing less. 2/10 Depth: Despite it's simple premise, it is quite profound. Many different strategies exist. Bouncing ( A defensive playstyle which reflects balls and requires patience and complete dexterity to utilize). Aggression ( an offensive playstyle which sees balls being thrown as aggressively and precisely as possible). It's so much more than a simple game. 8/10 Difficultly: This game's difficultly is only moderate. It starts easy and gets harder when you furiously advance. 6/10 Penguin-Kun Wars is a gem. Unknown and recently unearthed, it needs adequate polishing to shine. This game is great for those who like fair challenge and heated, strategic gameplay. 8.8/10
