Painful Potter Game poke-fan-1900
I picked up this game because a.) I am a fan of the Harry Potter series and b.) I liked the looks of the graphics I saw in the screen shots. They're actually good for the system they are on. I was a little leery of the game because I saw screen shots which amounted to Harry beating up on his cousin, but I was more then willing to give it a try. Perhaps Dudley was being the typical bully he was in the books. The sound wasn't bad.
Ultimately the game was a pain in the neck. Despite the fact the graphics are good I only recognized three things outside of the story caps that occurred at the beginning of each level as being part of the Harry Potter universe. This would be Harry, Dudley and Vernon. In the first level which is based around the house we have a person show up that I had troubles recognizing. I believe it was supposed to be Petunia, but I had problems identifying the character as being her. The second game I found myself going up another person I couldn't identify from the Harry Potter universe. On top of this the scenes were very generic and could be found anywhere. Nothing identified it as being specifically from the Harry Potter universe.
The game controls are also frustrating. I actually decided to give this one a second chance and discovered upon beating the first level finally that the second level was horribly touchy. The first gap jump in that level you have to go to the very edge before you jump and if you get the timing off you fall into the water. Add to this you have a fish jumping up into the air as well as someone beating you up that you have to take care of before you cross who has a habit of kicking you into the water. If you jump at the wrong time there is a rat that will also knock you into the water if you land on it. Then, if you do manage to get across figuring out which door actually can be gone through is a task in itself.
From what I understand this is not a professionally released game. So it's not surprising really to find that the controls are more touchy then other NES games I've played.
