Fast Eddie Review
Overall - 6

Fast Eddie is a semi-common game for the Atari 2600. Of course, you wouldn't know about it, because of all the 2600 games that crowd the library to the point where the only Atari games you know about are ports of arcade games. Not to say that the Atari 2600 is bad... anyways, this was made in 1982. Donkey Kong was one of the huge arcade games at the time. Developers looked to Atari and Commodore to release their versions of each game. Fox Video Games was one of them, with Fast Eddie.

Graphics - 3
The graphics aren't really worth mentioning. It overall looks like Donkey Kong, with Goombas from Super Mario Bros everywhere. If you hold up or down, Eddie starts walking in place. The game's title calls him fast, does he really need any more exercise? Whenever he hits his head on the bottom of a platform, he acts like a brick got dropped on his head, which is a nice effect, yet I seem to doubt that was intentional.

Sound - 2
There's not much sound in the game. There's not much sound. You jump over enemies, you die, and you get a game over. The ladder sound effect wears on your ears eventually. It sounds like some new construction worker clanging metal together. In fact, I'm certain that's where they got the idea for the sound. Or they're trying to copy Donkey Kong... again.

Addictiveness - 4
This game can be addicting to the right person. Anybody who likes Donkey Kong, or the Popeye game on NES shouldn't miss this. However, for the rest of you, this may not be too fun. I like to think of it as a game where you come up with ideas. I would suggest playing it 5-15 minute bursts.

Story - BLANK
To my knowledge, there is no story. It's really a copy of Popeye, you're going around collecting hearts to complete the level.

Depth - 3
The game just has the same set of eight ladders, hearts and enemies over and over. However, by fooling around with Reset and Select, I was able to get different layouts, and enemies. The layout, it seems, is random, and select raises the difficulty. There's not much else to say here.

Difficulty - 4
The game would be EXTREMELY easy, if it wasn't for the controls. Like CastleVania, you can't change you direction you jump in after you jump. When the Goombas sit in the corner, and you jump near them, they may wake up, and lay down right where you'll jump. Just avoid the Goombas and you should be fine. You can pass through them by going up or down a ladder when they hit you. There's also some random Tall Goomba up at the top, which... you can't jump over.

Conclusion
This game is decent. With Donkey Kong-style gameplay, and a ton of level varieties creatable through Reset and Select, Atari fans should not miss this game.

I was addicted to this game as a kid. Can't believe I still love it today. Yesterday was the first time I played it in like 15 years.
