Adventure Reviews

Before Zelda, this is one of the first exploratory games. Its Adventure time.   endings
4K bytes was never so good as when this game was released way back in 1978.
Adventure is a great early-age game. Its still simplistic, as many games were back then, but featured forward-thinking that later generations of games could expand upon.  You are a hero that must get a magic chalice back into the castle.  You will run into other castles, some locked, and have to look for keys. Sometimes you will find a bridge that allows you cross unreachable areas. There is an arrow that is actually a spear, good to know, because there be dragons in this game. And they be hungry.
Graphics: 8
You have to be forgiving of the technology at the time. This is not a bad looking game. Most heroes WERE crude dot shapes back then. Although they are lovable, the dragons have been derided for their strange duck-shaped mouth. Rather humorous. The castles are large and almost take up the screen when you approach them. The Bridge, well it sort of leaves some to the imagination. It looks like a bracket on your keyboard. If you get to the chalice and get it back, the screen will glow. The fact this is one of the earliest examples of multiple-screen gaming is quite impressive. Games like
Joust orYar's Revenge, they all used one screen only, and both came out years later than this.
Sound: 7
Again, limited in this age of gaming. The dragon chomps and the death sound are pretty iconic. But overall, its a quiet game with maybe only 6-8 sounds effects, and absolutely no music.
Addictiveness: 7
This is a pretty fun game. You have multiple stages, and mazes. sometimes you need an item, can see it, but must find out the way to get to it. The dragons chase you when they find you, and do not leave you alone, even if you go off screen!
Story: 8
Considering the story of many early games is, just do this stuff, I commend Adventure for coming up with a quest at all. Find the chalice, restore order.  Its games like this that make us appreciate the milestones they laid down for the legendary games of today.
Depth: 8
This game I think has the world's first easter egg. The game designer hid his name in it for a player to find, but he wasn't supposed to. Back then there were no credits in games, you as a player would not know if Shigeru Miyamoto worked on a game. Thank goodness trends changed.
Difficulty: 6
Adventure has some memorization, as you might be unlucky exploring and run into a dragon with no spear or castle in sight, and die early. But its not a long game, and try, try again is all you can do.
Final Score: 8
This is a classic way oldschool game. Adventure does things so differently from the games that came out near its release, I consider it the Zelda of its time.

Adventure Cheat Codes

Duplicate monsters

Play until reaching a situation where a slow moving monster, like a jelly, is above your character in a lengthy vertical hall. Move down until the monster is almost off the top of the screen, then quickly move back up. If the timing was correct, the monster at the top of the screen will have been duplicated and there will be two of them.

Pause Game

While playing the game, press 1 and 9 at the same time to pause the game.

Warp to the last cave.

If you immediately head to the bottom right corner of the main map, you can push buttons at random and down+right to reappear in the top left corner. This gives you a straight walk to the final cave, no canoe needed.

Can't get this to play. I downloaded the plug-in, etc, restarted the browser, a gray box pops up and that's it.

This is Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, perhaps it was just named differently during a beta or something.
