The Father of the First Person Shooter   Thebiguglyalien
Wolfenstein 3D... oh do we go back far. This is one of the games that really got me into gaming. I mean, yeah, I've played video games before this one. But this was the first game I can honestly say I was obsessed with. But now I'm back all these years later, and I'm not here to honor it. I'm here to criticize it. Will it hold out against my analytical wrath?
Graphics: 6
Let's start with the graphics. If you just picked up the game and started playing right now, you'll probably notice the graphics. More specifically, you'll notice that they are somewhat crude and tend to blur really badly at a distance. However, you must remember that this is a game on the Game Boy Advance. Graphics are almost always crude on the GBA. Considering the time period, it really could be worse. But there was definitely room for improvement.
Sound: 5
To say the least, the sound in this game is questionable. There are two main problems with the sound. First of all, there's no soundtrack. Second, many of the sounds seem out of place. Some of the sound effects sound echo static. Others just sound off, like the odd springy sound effect when the player grabs treasure. However, there are sounds that it gets right. The soldiers lines sound authentic (despite the fact that they sound like broken records) and the gunshots sound like gunshots. It splits even on this one.
Addictiveness: 9
Wolfenstein 3D is very addictive. It is the father of the modern first person shooter, and rightly so. The relatively simple gameplay can really go a long way. When you first start the game, you don't really expect it to be that much. But then you play it once, and you realize how fun it is to take down the SS using your minigun. The only problem is that it can get repetitive over time.
Story: 3
The story in this game has potential, but the potential is never really realized. Anyone who reads about the game knows that you are a soldier in World War II, and you're fighting all of the Nazis and doing whatever it is you're doing in that stage. There are two problems with this. The first is that's about it. Whether you're breaking out of the castle or killing Hitler, there isn't much more elaboration. The second problem is that you don't even know why you're doing what you're doing if you don't go out of your way to figure it out. The game's one glimmer of hope is how well it sets up the setting through the decorations. Nothing says "Nazi" like a swastika on the wall.
Depth: 6
This game has a decent gameplay, but it doesn't really do much with it. You run around, you shoot the Nazis, you get to the goal, and... that's it. It's just running and gunning. It is rather unique in the fact that there are many hidden parts within the levels. If you hit the right spot in a wall, you can access a secret passage. A few of these passages might even be secret levels, if you know where to look. But these secrets don't make up for the lack of the main gameplay. It isn't too bad, however, because it does have numerous different stages and levels within it, extending the gameplay beyond what it would otherwise be.
Difficulty: 5
Like many games, the difficulty ultimately comes down to what difficulty setting you choose. This game provides a lot of leeway for difficulty. If you choose the easiest option, "Can I Play Daddy?", odds are you won't have a problem. But if you choose something a little more challenging (such as "I Am Death Incarnate"), then you are going to be in for quite a challenge indeed.
Overall: 8.5
When it comes down to it, Wolfenstein 3D is a simple yet fun first person shooter. It's got enough to keep you coming back for more, but not to the point where it distracts you from the straightforward "shoot Nazis, get to the goal" gameplay. Like all games, it does have its problems. The set up is a little weak, and sometimes it can be difficult to tell where you're going, but these problems aren't bad enough to ruin the gameplay. If you like first person shooters, Wolfenstein 3D is definitely a great game worth playing.

A great port for a handheld console   DragonSlayer22
Wolfenstein 3.D. was one of the greatest game of all time. It made the whole idea of first-person shooters popular. I had this port growing up and I loved it.
Graphics: 7 The graphics are pretty good for the console, but enemies often turn into like 2 pixels from far away. I would have given  it an 8 with the animations actually looking pretty good, but the resolution is a little too small.
Sound: 7 So, its the same music from the PC version. but compressed more to fit the requirements of the console. I mean, it's not too noticeable, but you can still hear some compression. The voices actually sound like voices so that's good.
Addictiveness: 8 The game is still fun to play with many levels, similar to
Doom, but the levels are similar to mazes. Doom is still better to play, but this is also fun, as it came out before Doom.
Story: 6
It's WWII, go kill Nazi's and their leaders. That's actually about it actually. Other than that it is just escaping Castle Wolfenstein.
Depth: 8
The game is still a fun game to play, with many levels focusing on Linear game play, but can be expanded to other things like treasure hunting or secret finder.
Difficulty: 8 The game can be hard, even in normal mode. You can beat the game, so it is not impossible, but it will be hard.
OVERALL: 8.6 It's a good game that should be remembered, but it is expensive, with it often being over $20 which, believe it or not, is expensive for a Game Boy Advance game, even for the 2000's.

Wolfenstein 3D Review   XxEzraxX
Wolfenstein 3D is one of those games that you first look at and think, "there is no possible way that this game could be any good" but then kind of surprises you because it is not really that bad. It is interesting to say the least. Your main objective is pretty simple take your gun and kill Nazi's and try to get the highest score possible while traversing through different floors (or levels, if you will) of a building. Now I'm not sure at all how this game ends, I would assume once you got to the final level that you would have to take out Hitler or something along those lines but to be completely honest I am not sure. I only really played to check the game out because I heard some interesting things about it, with it being censored during a later release due to tons of swastikas around the place. However, I'm sure I made it far enough to write a pretty solid review of the game.
For the overall score I gave this game a 7.6, I didn't expect much when first going in especially since this game was first released on the DOS (for those who don't know DOS is a really old floppy disk game). However, when thrown into the game I was surprised with how much fun I had just running around and shooting Nazi's and rabid dogs, and collecting different treasures and guns. The only real problem I had with the game was that the controls were a little clunky and odd, but eventually you kind of get used to them. Maybe it is only on the Gameboy Advance that is like this? Perhaps the original had better controls, but I kind of doubt it because again it was released for DOS.
Anyway, the graphics surprised me a little I didn't think they were going to be as good as they actually are, granted they are not great but for the time period they are good. I rated the graphics a 5. Things looked blocky, but they were still recognizable. As for the sound I had to rate that really low, a 2. There was no music the only thing you ever heard throughout the game was when you shot your gun, found an enemy, got hit, collected treasure or healed with food or a med kit. It's a real shame to, I personally think that the developers could have had  a lot of potential for a great soundtrack for this game.
Wolfenstein is a great game to kind of pass the time, so it being an 'addicting game' is saying a little to much. I wouldn't say that it was addicting as much as it is a time killer so I rated the addictiveness a 7. I wasn't totally absorbed and wanting to really beat it, I just wanted to shoot things and that pretty much seems like all you really do. As for story....is there even a story? I didn't in any way really find one, I rate the story a 1. Even if the story of the game is that you are an agent sent in to defeat the Nazi party and save the world or whatever, it just doesn't seem like to solid of a story to me. So in the story department this game seriously lacks.
As for depth and difficulty, the game wasn't to big and there wasn't a whole lot of options to choose from when it came down to items. I didn't even see items, and the game wasn't hard you just fired your gun repeatedly. So on that note it is no wonder that I rated the depth a 3 and the difficulty a 2. I made through a few floors in less then 15 minutes, so again this game great time killer.
Overall I actually was kind of surprised with Wolfenstein 3D, I didn't think I would really like it to much but kind of enjoyed it. Is it a game that I'll be playing a lot, probably not but I might pick it up from time to time and who knows maybe one day I'll get interested enough to actually beat it. I wouldn't say that this game is not recommendable, it is and it is pretty fun too. However, I just don't take it that seriously. That's it for this review, I hope that you enjoyed it and that maybe you'll be interested in this game. Until next review.

Wolfenstein 3D is the grandfather of such successful franchises as Call of Duty and Brothers in Arms, but how does this port hold up?There are only two problems with this game that get on my nerves.#1the lack of music, and #2"semi-good"graphics.I say "semi-good"because the graphics are good close up,but bad far away. There are some times in the game that I wonder if the main character is near-sighted.Anyway,another minor problem with the game is that you can easily get lost, which I don't have a problem with.getting lost easily gives the game more depth, which lets you know that this is a huge castle with a well thought out architecture. In conclusion, this is not the best port of Wolfenstein 3D,but it certainly could've been a lot worse.I give this game a 7.5,a "+".overall, this game is "good"

Wolfenstein 3D on GBA   aquabludolphin18
Wolfenstein 3D was one of my favorite games back when I had a GBA.
Back then, I thought it was awesome. But, now, I think it's a bit bad.
First of all, the graphics are bad and choppy. The graphics can also glitch easily. However, the graphics are almost the same as the DOS version.
The sound is horrible and a bit unclear. But the thing that ruined everything was no music. There isn't any music at all.
All of the other GBA games had music, so why couldn't this game have music?
With no music, it gets boring and lowers the level of addictiveness.
You take control of B.J. Blazokowicz and your objective is to escape from Castle Wolfenstein and kill any soldiers, marines, officers, blood-thirsty dogs, and... mutants?
At the end of each episode you have to fight the boss. You fight Hitler at the end of episode 3.
Episode 3 was supposed to be the end but, they included the nocturnal missions as well.
There's also secret levels. I don't know how you get to the secret levels so, don't ask me.
The last thing I'm going to talk about is about the difficulty.
It really depends on your selection. If you choose "Daddy, Can I Play?" then the levels are so easy that even a baby could do it.
If you pick "Don't hurt me" the stages are easy as pie. If you select "Bring It On!", it's the average difficulty.
And, if you're curious and choose "I am Death Incarnate"... Good Luck.
Overall, the GBA version of Wolfenstein 3D is OK.

The only thing that bothers me about the GBA version of Wolfenstein 3D is that there is no music at all. But other than that, this game is just as fun as the original PC version.

Uhhh noobly if you knew anything about the history behind this game you would know that it came out before doom and and popularized the fps genre. Doom came out a few years later and was made by the same company.
