Autobots...Roll out! This mission is of Prime importance! FaithFighter
Here we are again, another style of transformers, another game, another review. This time, I'm doing one of my favorites--Transformers Prime: the game. For the wii, I would say that this game is pretty excellent. Transformers never fails to bring the heat, even whilst trying to do a game off a movie, or in this case--cartoon series. The game follows a lot of things that the cartoon series did, but all along the way, it's got it's own story, and for that, I have to commend them. Also, the gameplay was perfect, you play as the good guys during the whole game. And I like the fact that you get to transform at any point in the game. Not all games allow this, so it earns extra points for that. Without any more gabbing, let me get down to business here.
Graphics: 9
The graphics are just right for the purpose of the cartoon series, not too real, not too fake. There did not seem to be any graphical glitches, and all the characters looked just as they did in the cartoon series. I really liked the graphics for outer space. Awesome! Dreadwing looked huge and threatening, even when he was mostly trapped inside the asteroid. Overall, I just enjoyed how everything was done, and felt that the graphics were just way above the average that is done for the typical settings that you find yourself in.
Sound: 9
No complaints here, either. The sound is clear and pure, and everything just sounded right. Explosions sounded real, you could hear the laser blasts ricochet, and metal smashing metal is a joy to the ears. And of course, the music was great as well. So far, every transformers game has not disappointed me in these departments.
Addictiveness: 9
Transformers is somehow in itself something that draws me in. I absolutely love being a robot and smashing up the bad guys. I love the feeling of jumping into vehicle mode to run over your opponents, but there is one thing that I wish would happen...that the autobots would get someone with flying mode! (I know that Optimus Prime uses this ability towards the end of the series, after he is rebuilt, but I usually do not get to utilize it in the game.) I always hate that the bad guys always just get to fly away, while you are left standing there. I enjoyed all the battles, and would like to get back to this game shortly.
Story: 9
For a story that is based on a cartoon series that you already know, the story was fresh and original. Megatron gets his metal on the ultimate warrior dreadwing--after Optimus destroys him. Megatron has his minions tracking the pieces all over the globe (as they fell from the asteroid in space.) Thunderwing--even after being recreated by megatron professes no loyalty to him. Instead, he pushes megatron out of the way after he gets everything that he needs to come back in full power. And then proceeds to attack optimus prime.
Depth: 8
The game was decently long and has extra challenges to do afterwards. In addition, there is a battle mode where you can battle with the computer in multiplayer stages. With all that, I would say that an 8 is a decent rating for the game.
Difficulty: 8
While the game controls are relatively easy, the battles can be very difficult. I remember dying many times on many of the boss battles. But even with the difficulty, it did not even take me a week to finish it. but it did take quite a bit of frustration, so I still think that an 8 seems about right.
Overall: 9
Transformers has yet to disappoint me, even if there are a couple of things that I do not like about it, there is always enough about the game that I love. One thing that is always good is the graphics and sound. Gameplay is always fun, and the story is always pretty exciting. Even with so many things in common, somehow each transformers game manages to remain unique in its own way.
