Chrono Trigger--Prophet's Guile   angelbear1297
Chrono Trigger--Prophet's Guile, created by the same team who made the Chrono Trigger--Crimson Echoes hack, is a short hack of the classic Chrono Trigger for the SNES. In the game, you play as Magus and follow his story when he returns to his own time of 12,000 BC. Overall, the game is not too bad, but is not too good either. Perhaps that is because of the game's length. It took me approximately two hours to complete overall. Anyways, let's break this hack down.
Graphics: Overall, they are just the same as Chrono Trigger's graphics. Nothing changed, nothing enhanced. At least, not that I noticed. However, considering these events take place at the same time as the regular game's events, it would make sense not to change the graphics. So, overall all Im going to give the graphics a 7.
Sound: The developers of this hack enhanced and remixed the sound so that it sounds beautiful and amazing. There were some places in the hack where I would just stand there for a second just to listen to the music. The way the creators remixed the music makes it seem like the songs were supposed to be in Chrono Trigger all along. The music in this hack really helps the atmosphere of the hack, and emphasizes what is occurring at the time. Overall, the music deserves a solid 9.
Addictiveness: The game, at first, is very addictive. When I was playing it, I barely wanted to stop playing. If for anything, just to see what would happen next. In fact, the only time I put it down was during the final dungeon because a few of the enemies just annoyed me because they stole all of Magus' MP with one move. After that, I just blinked, stopped for a second, then put the game down for a few hours. Anyways, Im not quite sure if I would want to play this hack again. I mean, if anything it would be to try to find the three obuli which are hidden in the game. Otherwise, I feel as if the game would get very boring very quickly. Overall addictiveness, 6.
Story: Although it's a short hack, it has an amazing storyline. In the hack, you see Magus look at himself from the past, while also explaining some of the events that take place before your party arrives at 12,000BC. While playing through the hack, you also get to see what is happening during the regular game. The only problem with the story is that it is so short that you barely have any time to really dive into and enjoy the game. Overall, 8.
Depth: There's not much to say or brag about for this category. The hack is very short, which doesn't help it at all, and other than the story, there's not much to do in the hack. One of the hack's only saving graces are the three hidden obuli. The obuli are well hidden in the game, which if you obtain all three, you gain access to a secret developer's room at the end of the game. Truthfully, I was only able to find one of the hidden obuli, and really, it was by accident. Since there's not much to do, and it doesn't take long to beat, 2-3 hours approximately, 5.
Difficulty: And finally, we get into the difficulty of the game. Even though it's short, it. is. difficult. Throughout the game, you only have Magus in your party. There is nobody with healing moves, no Tech Points, and nobody to help you out. So, if Magus is defeated in battle, you lose the game and have to start from your last save point. (Save often.) Oh, not to mention that Magus only has his starting move set. (Ice2, Lightning2, etc.) Plus, you only get one other tech, Magic Wall. (Trust me, you'll need it.) Anyways, the only way you can heal in this game is by either finding them in chests, or by defeating monsters. Even if you try to earn them off of monsters, you usually end up using the health or MP that you would gain from the item. But wait, that's not all! The dungeons are extremely tricky too.(Spoiler warning) There is one dungeon where you have to escort Melchoir to be imprisoned. During the dungeon, Melchoir follows you and can be hit by various enemies. If Melchoir is hit three times, he will die, and you will have to start the dungeon over from your last save point. I could probably go on with the difficulty of the game. I have a couple of more stories, including the final boss of the hack. Overall, 8.
Chrono Trigger--Prophet's Guile is a short game. It has its advantages,  as well as its disadvantages. If you're looking for a short, but difficult game that will throw plot twists at you while sending you on a hunt to find its hidden items, this game is for you. Overall, I would rate this game a 7.2 with it's saving graces being its sound, story, and difficulty. Happy playing, and thanks for reading!

Chrono Trigger - Prophet's Guile Game Description

Chrono Trigger: Prophet's Guile is a fan game following the story of Magus's rise to power in the Kingdom of Zeal after arriving in 12000 B.C. thanks to the distortion at his lair. In his bid to stop Lavos at the Ocean Palace, Magus must gain the trust of Queen Zeal and abolish all opposition. It's about two regular Chrono Trigger chapters long, and full of surprises.

Work on Chrono Trigger: Prophet's Guile began in January 2007. ZeaLitY suggested that the Crimson Echoes team, sidelined for the moment, develop a short ROM hack to be released in a couple months. Unfortunately, other matters came into play and after the backbone of the game was coded, work halted and shifted back to Crimson Echoes. In December 2007, Chrono'99 revived the project and thanks to a collaborative effort with his leadership, Prophet's Guile now stands complete. The only casualty of the development process was a plan to resprite Magus as the Prophet, which would have involved exhaustive work.

i got stuck an hour in, but i found 1 of the 3 coins at the start in the first monster area... you can get it by falling down on a ledge up top to the far right and open a chest no a ledge you fall onto

i beat the game but missed two out of three obuli. apparently if you find and get all 3 obuli hidden in the game you get access to the developers room when you beat the game.
