Lexatom : D3 is far from the best. As a player who played Diablo, D2, D2:LOD, and D3 I can confidently say D3 is the worst with D2:LOD being the best. Do yourself a favor and play D2:LOD

Have you ever had a game that you felt had so much potential but was completely ruined by the difficulty? It can go either way, too easy or too hard. There are two examples that come to my mind. The first being battletoads. I could never get very far in this game. I think I got to the fifth level but never had enough lives after level 3's hover board experience. The second is Devil May Cry 3. I loved the first one, the second one was kinda meh, and I heard great things about the third one. I remember renting it as a teen just to get super frustrated upon meeting the first couple bosses. It really just wasn't worth it.

What have your experiences been?

Anyways, the review was a little clunky in a few spots but when all is said and done it was pretty decent. It got its point across. I will not be wasting money or Viz playing this game. Thanks for the review.

Battletoads

Overall: 8

The NES has some of the hardest games I have ever played. One of those games is Battletoads. It stands on that list for good reason, if you have played the game you know exactly what I am talking about. If not, do yourself a favor and pull it up on vizzed right now. Let us see how far you get. Just because it is FREAKING HARD does not mean it is not fun, or a bad game. It is simply just difficult. So why did it get the ratings I gave it? Lets find out!

Graphics: 10

This game has pretty decent graphics, you can go in just about any direction on screen. It is a side scroller making it impossible to go backwards once you have passed a point. There is a decent amount of detail in the actions, like when you boot a monster (or your team mate, that is always fun) you can see the "grooves" of the boot. Pretty amazing for the NES. The bosses have decent amounts of detail as well.

Sound: 6

Honestly, I do not care for the music. It was not obnoxious enough for me to mute it, but it gets pretty annoying. If you do not believe me, pause the game with the sound turned up. Just be prepared for a poor persons beat boxing. If a game has memorable music I find myself singing the tunes on occasion, that never happened with this game. Simply not impressed.

Addictiveness: 8

Even though this game is super hard, there are a number of things that make it addictive. The difficulty itself is one of those things. I sometimes simply want to see how far I can get (no I have never beat this game). My favorite thing to do though, is to play the game with a friend, my brother and I have this thing going where we will randomly turn on each other in the middle of the game. I'll be down on the ground with almost full life and he will come over to me, pick me up, and throw me into a pit. From that point on, it is all out WAR. We spend the next hour trying to get back at one another. I laughed a lot doing this.

Story: 6

The story is nothing amazing but most of the games on the NES follow the same suit. If you have played the NES for long you know that its many games are known for being FUN, not for the detailed story. Simply put, the story is kind of weak.

Depth: 10

There is only one way to go in this game, and that is forward. Even having said that there are a variety of things to do in the levels. One level you are side scrolling, the next you are repelling down a cavern. You surf, you ride on bikes (watch out for the random blocks of stone!). There is a decent amount of different things the toads do in this game. The question is, are you good enough to experience it all?

Difficulty: 10

This is a game that easily earns the 10 on difficulty. If I could rank the multi player I would rank it higher than that. If you think single player is hard, try doing it with two people. If one of you dies, you start over. There is no carrying the other through the levels. This continues to happen until you have almost NO LIVES. The monsters themselves really aren't a problem, it is the environment. Later levels you ride snakes, avoid spikes, there are just soo many ways to get one shotted.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this game is super hard. If you are up to a challenge, do yourself a favor and play this. I doubt you will be able to beat it, and if you are (without save states) you are simply one of the best video game players I have ever seen. We should all pay you some respect. This game is legendary, I still enjoy it to this day. My brother and I still duke it out on multi player from time to time (it is probably about time we did it again).

Pros: competition between two players, fun gameplay

Cons: Deaths too easy, unrealistic expectations for completion (especially multi player)

Hmm, sounds interesting. I always liked the legendary Pokémon. I may have to give this one a shot. I can imagine that this game would be kind of a breeze with the legendary Pokémon simply being stronger then everything around them. Thanks for the post. I will jot this down on hacks I have to try.

This game does not really seem like a game I will spend time or Viz on. It seems like a weak version of street fighter. The review was well done, let me know what I needed to know about the game.

I also like that you pointed out how it plays on vizzed, because frankly, that is the only way I can play games now a days. All of my systems are miles away, thus I am left to Viz. I have played Pokémon stadium a few times, and I think you rated it a little better than I would have, but it is only a matter of opinion. I felt like the battles took to long. It is pretty much the same thing as any Pokémon battle, it just simply takes longer and you get to see the actual attacks. Just felt like I was spending more time playing the same thing. My opinion.

An American tale fieval goes west is one of my favorite childhood movies. Unfortunately, almost every game made after a movie is a waste of time. The picture here of Wiley burp looks ridiculous. It is like they are laughing at my childhood. Thanks for the review, I will probably stay away from this one.

This review needs more, in order to actually be a review we need to see more than that you like the game. What about the game did you like? How was the sound quality? Is it a difficult game? Is there any story? What is the multiplayer like? In order to make a good review it needs some actual opinion about different aspects of the game. I would not mind you posting another review about the same game but actually posting what the game is like. I personally do not have time to play every game, so I look to these reviews for help.

Probably not a game I would spend time on, there are many more I would rather play first. None the less, it is good to read review and see opinions about any game. I honestly was surprised to see the ratings were that good. Thanks for writing.

I do not mind him bumping this thread, it gives me a chance to read a good review that frankly, I would have missed. As long as the post bumped is not a thread that is a few sentences long and sounds like this "I lyk dis gam it has fu nfer us an yu get da pokmon" I think that a review is a review. Who cares when it was written. My personal opinion, take it for what you will.

Concerning the review, I thought it was well written. This Pokémon game was the first I played and brings back a lot of memories. Very well done.
