HahaHA! Yes! I am back! Finally! Did you miss me? No? Well SCREW YOU! It's been awhile since I made a review, so I thought I would celebrate doing things I love. And that's shedding some light on over shadowed games. So what's on today's list? Well, I thought I would do a review on mega man. No, not THAT megaman, I'm talking about a megaman port on the game gear. If you don't know what a game gear is, it's basically sega's version of the gameboy. Now megaman has been treated nicely with handheld ports. You have wily's revenge, mega man 2 ect. But those are all gameboy games. Mega man is one of my favorite video game characters of all time, so let's take a look at mega man on the game gear, and see if sega really does, what nintendon't.



Pre thoughts:

Righty, so my main thoughts on this game when I found it were: A mega man game I haven't played? This planted a seed of doubt into my mind. Many times if a game isn't talked much about, it most likely means, it sucks. So, to shed some light on this game, I looked at some of the reviews. That seed of doubt went from a seed to a sprout. Every review said the same thing, had the same complaints and all despised this game. By now the freaking sprout is a blooming flower, but since the same thing happened for the halo2600 hack, (A game that wasn't as bad as everybody said it was) I thought I would try it out. And before I start the next paragraph, I'm first just going to remind you all: this is a handheld game. Meaning that many issues, had to be dealt with in some way. 



Story:

DR Wily is being super evil again and has created some new robot masters to help him  take over the world! And it's up to megaman to stop him!...

...

...

What? That's it.No really, That's it. Ok so the story of the game is rather mediocre and bland, but it follows the original megman story line. To be honest, it's pretty terrible, but this is megaman. The story isn't a big part of the game. It's more based on the gameplay. I thought I would calls this out, just because so many people complained about this. And, there's really no point. I mean, COME ON. It's megaman. It's not like the past games have had award winning story lines either. This is nothing to really complain about, as it's really the same story as every other megaman game.





Gameplay:
Now the gameplay... Looking at other reviews, everybody says it sucks. K so um, what are you guys smoking? The gameplay is megaman, it has that megaman feel to it, the controls are tight and easy to learn, controlling megaman is fun, shooting things are fun, enemy's are creative level design is great. Seriously? What is so terrible about the gameplay? Well, one issue people had while playing is that you can only shoot 2 bullets at a time. Ok, but may I remind you : HAND HELD DEVICES BACK THEN WERE FREAKING LIMITED!? Also, if they hadn't limited the amount of bullets on the screen at once, in would have caused great lag, which in the end would have made for some tedious gameplay. Incase you didn't notice, the game is lag free. even with tons of enemy's on the screen, I got no lag. That's pretty awesome considering the gameboy ports of the game had lag. Also, enemy's take very little hits to kill. This makes the two bullet issue, not an issue at all. It's just people being picky, for the sake of being picky. Speaking of enemy's, robot masters in this game are rather unique. I believe they are a mix between megaman 5 and 3? I may be wrong, but I thought that was kinda cool. Enemy's in this game were creative and macho, and were REALLY satisfying to kill. My only real issue with this game is...:

Difficulty:
*Sigh* How did they mess this one up. Well, megaman is known to be really difficult, so I expected nothing less from this game. But... As it turns out this game suffers the same fate as mega man 2. It's pretty easy. I'm sure a young kid could beat it with enough practice. A big reason this is an issue, is because the game is also kinda short, and if it was HARDER, well it would also be longer. But these are the real only complaints I can really give this game.

Music/sounds:
Well, this is another one I can't bash too hard.  This IS  game gear game, and the game gear ins't too well known for having Mozart type music. The most I can say about this is that the music is fast paced, but feel kinda distorted at times. The sound FX are awesome though. When a robot explodes you get a satisfying KABLOOSH noise that really complements the ears. I truly can't decide on this one, sound and music is half and half.

My thoughts on the game:
AWESOME. JUST AWESOME. Seriously, this game doesn't deserve nearly as much hate as it get's. It's a fun, fast paced side scroller featuring everybody's favorite: blue bomber. It's not a perfect mega man game, but it's one you need to check out.

Closing remarks:
As this was a short review, I'm planning a much bigger one in the future. So keep your eyes peeled for that. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed. If you haven't already, play this game! It's much better than people say. Until next time! -bluecat

Man I just LOVE this game. But many people think it's a little bonker's. Really! Evil old lady's drunk driver's and so SO much more madness. But now that I think of it... This game is pretty accurate. I'm 12 and a paper route is the best I can get when it comes to jobs. ( And there's NO way I'm babysitting. I'm not good with kids. ) And I have had this route for 3 years now and I will admit that crazy things happen a lot on your route. The thing this game didn't right is.. Well. In real life you're not gonna be on that bike. Anyway! I should talk about this game! Yeah! I havn't even mentioned the name of the game yet! Well you probably guessed it (Really how would you NOT know by now?) ,it's paper boy on nes.

Game play: The game play is simple. You must memorize the houses that have subscribed to your newspaper and deliver to those houses while avoiding an immense amount of hazards. Don't worry. We are getting to that. Anyway, you must also memorize which houses aren't subscribed to you. At the end of a stage you get to go to a bonus stage. These bonus stages are really fun. You go though an obstacle course. Now if there's one thing I would do after I finish my paper route it's NOT GONNA BE GO THOUGH A RANDOM OBSTACLE COURSE. This obstacle course is very hard and takes a lot of skill. You need to know when to speed up and slow down. You even get to throw paper's  at targets for more points. It's lots of fun. :3

sound: sound is pretty good. Everything sounds how it supposed to (Sadly its not as good as the arcades sound but it's still pretty good.) Although I can't make out what he says when he gets hit by something. It's different every time, yes, I know but I can never and I repeat never figure out it says. ( feel free to tell me. :3)

graphics: The graphics are GLORIOUS! It's like I just walked into a room full of butterf- You know what? screw it. I don't need to explain how awesome the graphics are. Find out yourself you lazy bum. All I can say is that their awesome (man. Can I really even count this as a paragraph? No? How about now? Now? What about now? Cmon! I'm just gonna keep typing up until the point where this can count as a paragraph! Ugh. Finally.)

Addictiveness: I play this game all the time. It's so much fun. It's so addictive. There are games that are fun to play the first time but then aren't fun anymore after awhile. Well paperboy does not let that happen. It's wacky graphics amusing sound affects and easy to learn game play just wont allow that to happen!It keeps me coming back for more even when I get a game over.  Want everything I just said in a nutshell? It addictive.

Depth: I'm not even gonna try with this one. Wanna know my thought's about how much this game has to offer? Well, I'll make it quick: this game has many things to offer. It may not have a lot of stages but attempting to get the highest score sure keeps you busy. So paper boy is on the safe side when it comes to depth. There you happy?

I'm back and ready to review a game! What game am I going to review today? Xevious? Ah cool. I always wondered how to pronounce the name Xevious. Really. I used to say x evious until I found out it's zevious. Huh. For some reason many games like this had names that started with x. I wonder what it means in Japanese. Oh well. I should start the review now shouldn't I? Yeah. I think I got carried away there. Anyway this is Xevious! Xevious is a smup. (Shoot em up game) It's real basic. You go around going pew pew! Shooting enemy ships! Well. That's not ALL you do. Let's dig a bit deeper shall we?

Game play: So as I said before, Xevious is a smup. You need to shoot enemy ships down with your lazer's that are attached to your ship. ( Yes I know that lazer's is spelled laser's but lazer's looks cooler! :3 and lazer makes more sense then laser. It's pronounced laZer!) There are also ground enemy's! This was a very cool and original idea to implement into the game! It had made for some very challenging game play! Most normal enemy's will just fly around you or shoot you. Ground enemy's are much of the same. To take out these ground enemy's you must use bombs instead of your lazer's. Very cool game mechanic. Some bosses also require you to use bombs as well.

Story: Humans are trying to find aliens! But they found out that aliens are humans as well oddly enough. They said they want their planet back and are now in a large battle. It's mankind vs mankind! Who will win? Er... it's more like mankind vs small tiny spaceship. Well. All I can say is: Good luck!

Addictiv- You know what? Screw spelling the whole word. I would play this game again. It's very challenging (don't worry were getting to that.) and the game play was so well done that it keeps me coming back. I really recommend trying this game out. (I don't think I can count that as a paragraph.)

Difficulty: Yeah! The difficulty in this game is brutal. This is megaman hard! Really! The game is cruel. Enemy's are coming from every part of the screen shooting at you whistle enemy's on the ground just sit there and shoot every once in a while! This game is hard. And I just can't seem to stretch that fact enough.


Graphics: The graphics are decent for the nes. Everything looks like what their supp- OH GOD ARE THOSE FLOATING RINGS? OH AND LOOK OVER THERE! GIANT FRYING PANS THAT CAN'T BE DESTROYED! I have no clue where the artist's for this game got these idea's for enemy's! It makes no sense! But then again. The game is supposed to be futuristic so I'll let it pass.

Sound: haha! Yeah sound. For music you have this annoying 3 second track that keeps looping. It's like Wayne's world on the nes! Sound effects are pretty good though. It's very satisfying to shoot something. Sound is ok but that "song" Ergh!

Overall... I give the game a 9.4. It was revolutionary for the time but it did not age too well. It's still fun to play though. Welp see ya! Ciao!

Good review but how does the game use R.O.B the robot a problem? It was really neat at the time!

Now I wasn't really expecting a halo game on the atari2600. BUT I was expecting a bad game. This game gets SO MUCH HATE! And by reading all the reviews it has gotten...... It makes me wonder what this game is going to be like! My pre thoughts are this: hmmmm got bad reviews. Better not play it. But since i'm a hardcore atari fan... i'm gonna go ahead and play it. Just so you know I will be giving slight hints in this review to help the people who hate it get a little farther then they got. Also this is going to be a longer review so sit tight.

Story: well i'm not really surprised about this...it has no story. But i'm not gonna say thats a bad thing. Know why? Well first of all its an atari2600 game. Almost no atari2600 game has a story. So what do you expect? And also since this game was made before any other halo game you can't say it should have the same story as the others. If you want it to have a story... MAKE IT UP!

Graphics: Now this was real disappointing. The.... graphics are horrible. And yes. i know. Its an atari game. But thats no excuse. The atari has alot of great games like pitfall and kaboom. Those games have good graphics. So why can't this one. BUT let's not lose all hope just yet. Because the next thing i'm talking about... is the gameplay.

Gameplay: Now the gameplay is amazing. What more do you wanna do in a halo game? Well you wanna shoot stuff right! Well people are saying there is no gun. Thats a dirty lie. There is a gun. And its real simple to find. STEP 1 at the start of the game go up and there is the gun. Wow. Only one step is needed to get the gun. WAS THAT SO HARD!? Another complaint is that you have to find the gun. Well.. yes i know you wanna start off with the gun but the game is an adventure action shooter game. And plus. Many games have a gimick like that. So thats NOTHING to complain about. The gameplay is fun simple and fast. There is alot of action in the game too. What more can you ask for?

Difficulty: Now this game is the hardest atari2600 game I have ever played. I understand why people don't like it. Its hard. But that doesn't mean its bad. There are games that are LOVED to death like megaman and contra. And those are some really hard games. So why is this one different?

In conclusion: I like this game. Its fun hard and a game worth playing. Just so you know I have managed to beat this game without the use of savestates. Anyway please tell me what you think of the review. PEACE! (And yes I know. And I'm sorry I haven't gotten to reviewing megaman 3 yet. I'll do that once I have beaten it.)

Ahhhh good old mega man 2. Great game but it gets too much praise in my opinion. What about the first game what about the third game? WE NEVER HEAR ABOUT ANY OTHER MEGA MAN GAME OTHER THEN MEGA MAN 2! Well I guess I will sit down and review the game already. To be honest this is my least favorite mega man game. I just don't get why it gets so much praise. Well I guess i'll show you the game.


First lets talk about the story if the game. DR wily(the original bad dude from the first game) needed a way to get rid of mega man so he can take over the world so he made 8 more robot masters to take him out. Wait WHAT!? HE MADE MORE?! Cmon! You think hed try something different if what he did last time failed! WHY DO IT AGAIN!? Anyway he made 8 more robot masters. bubble man (ohhhh how menacing) air man(really? Cmon Dr wily.) flash man (pfff... MAKE SOMETHING SCARY DARN IT!) metal man (FINALLY) crash man (What does he do? Crash party's?) Wood man(OH NOS A SPLINTER!) and....quick  man (darn it all! Howd they know i'm fat!?) Oh and almost forgot! HEAT MAN! No not fire man. HEAT MAN. Ugh NO! Let me repeat! Not heat man... HEAT MAN with capital letters! Wow! How did you not get that!? (sorry I don't have a joke for HEAT MAN.)  These pathetic robot masters will try their best (which is hardly anything) To stop you.

 How bout the graphics? Their pretty good! I like them (At least there are no gutsman textures. Man DR wily must of broke up with him.) But sometimes they can be bland. A prime example is at the crash man stage! The background is very bland. Another place where the background sucks is at the bubble man stage! It makes wanna puke! It hurts the eyes! But at other stages like the woodman stage it has very nice backgrounds.


Now unlike the other mega man games this one is easy as eating pie. (And if you have never eaten pie before let me tell you how you do it: You take some of it on a spoon and stick in your mouth and then swallow. Repeat.) This one is still pretty hard but I can speed run it any day.


 Now the gameplay... well its like any other mega man game. You pick a robot master stage to play you play it fight the robot master get their weapon and you play the next stage. But if thats to complicated heres a rundown of what you do: Lots of guns and fun! boom boom you shoot a gun at things and kill them! Yes like all mega man games the gameplay= very simple.

Well thank you for reading my review. Its not my best but I promise ill do a better one next time. Because next time where gonna look at... (spoiler) MEGA MAN 3! My favorite game in the franchise! See you then!
