janus : You are correct. However jump back into the year 1991 and you will find Sonic the Hedgehog which happens to look a lot more detailed and colourful than Super Mario World. |

janus : Believe it or not. The first console I ever played was a SNES. And before you assume I am another graphics whore who plays call of duty 24/7, I have great respect for retro games. In fact I am making up for an N64. |

I am just going to start this off simply. I don't like this game. You heard me. I don't like it. I, Opti do NOT like Super Mario World on the SNES. I found it boring and not much to see. I mean, What can I say? Its just a platformer and a pretty clunky one if that. Lets get straight to the overview as I tell you why. GRAPHICS I don't know why this game is said to have good graphics for SNES. They lack detail and sometimes even color. If you don't believe me just compare it to super metroid. Anyway I found that the graphics were too simplistic and were really lacking compared to titles that came out around the same time. SOUND I found it annoying. The sound effects sound thrown together and are really annoying sometimes. The music is generic and boring. The only reason a lot of people like it is because of nostalgia. Annoying and boring. ADDICTIVENESS Nothing really to come back too. STORY Stay back fanboys, I am about to go into a full blown mario rant. Okay, Look this would be... what? the 4th time they used the same generic story line? And they are still using it today? FOR GODS SAKE. Look, if you are going to make a new game.. Make a different story line mkay? DEPTH Not much to do. DIFFICULTY Every single time you die in this game you thing "Well that was cheap." because the game littered with confusing and irritating level designs. Its terrible. This is the main problem with the game. Its really cheap and full of beginners traps. (Bullet bill in first level) CONCLUSION So now you have learnt something. It is possible for someone to not like Super Mario World. Shoot me. However there were some things I liked about the game. Such as the power-ups. They were all interesting ideas and generally fun too use. Also the bosses were nice. But that's really it. GRAPHICS I don't know why this game is said to have good graphics for SNES. So... Today we have a movie game based on the movie Austin Powers... So I should start by saying I should eat my words. I had my expectations high for this game because it was made by Rockstar Games. Y'know, the folks who made GTA? So, I booted it up and was greeted with the WORST unskippable intro I have ever seen. It pretended to be a DOS computer. I am dead serious. It just pretended to load the game as if it was a windows 95 after having coffee poured all over it for like 5 minutes. There is even a logo in the corner that says "FAB DOS". Wow. Anyway it ends and it displays a fake windows classic logo and has "Austin Powers 2000" written on it. Ha. ha. ha. He. he. he. Guys its so funny I can barely take it. Ha. ha. ha. Ho. ho. ho. I hate my life. Anyway, After the 5 minute long waste of ti- I mean intro I was than greeted with a pop up box saying "The following is a fab install program!" Or something. I hit a and it asked for my name etc. But what was really odd was when it asked me what my hobby was. Here is what the choices were: Swinging, Photography, and Thrwating Dr. Evil. Whatever the hell "Thrwat" means I will never know. Anyway it then pretended to install an operating system which took about a minute. And I finally got to play the "game". It opened up into a fake computer and displayed a fake task bar with a button that takes you to the options and three folders. The first one was labeled "Games" and featured the only three things that make it all sort of qualify as a game. But the games are just cheap clones and rip-offs. One is Rock, Paper, Scissors (Seriously?), Another is just othello or reversi, and another is a cheap Pac-Man clone where every level lasts 20 minutes. Another folder labeled "Groovy Stuff" is just a bunch of options that can already be found in the options menu in the fake task bar. And yet another folder labeled "Setting" which has a cheat screen which again pretends to be MS-DOS, Yet ANOTHER options menu and a button to delete all data. Another folder called "Programs" literally includes a notepad program that allows you to print memos written on it or transfer them to another game boy. Along with a fake virus scanner (I am serious.) and a fake internet browser which just sends you to what is basically a bunch of stuff that tells you about austin powers. My god, I almost forgot this is based off Austin Powers. And that's pretty much it. Lets just overview this and get it over with. GRAPHICS Aside from the occasional good animation its pretty much garbage. How ever you can watch clips of the movie in glorious 8-bit. But its just 5 second clips looped over and over again. Complete garbage. SOUND Mostly annoying beepy music and sound effects mostly comprised of horrible buzzing. Needs a mute button. STORY It doesn't exist. DEPTH Now, there is not a lot of stuff to do in the game. The "Operating System" is very personalize-able. But that's about it. DIFFICULTY Not existent. CONCLUSION So there you have it. The WORST Game Boy Color game of all time. Stay away from this horrible abomination. It isn't a game. It is a crappy toy loosely based on a movie. Worst game I have ever played. Well let me tell you. I have played some really weird games in my time. But this is one of the down-right strangest. I mean where do I even start? Walking gloves, Magic balls, Walking sharks, Fish Towers, Balloon elephants and Did I mention you play as a walking glove!? Oh boy. I am of course talking about Glover. Now as some of you mean know a game can leave you with a sour feeling if you come into it with your expectations too high and just wind up being disappointed, how ever games can become better if you keep your expectations low. So when I came into this game I had my expectations rather low because I had not heard a lot of amazing things about this game. So what did I think of it? Well as I played it I found it to be a very engaging and enjoyable puzzle/plat-former. Now enough babbling, Lets get into the review! GRAPHICS I did not really find anything special here. The graphics were really blurry and the in-game enemies looked just plain odd. The environments while colorful and bright were not really good looking. If you were too judge the game simply by looking at it you would probably assume its garbage. Probably why it didn't get a lot of love back in the day. SOUND When the topic of sound comes into the game it begins to shine a little brighter. The music is very peaceful and sometimes has a funky fell to it. The sound effects (While quite muffled.) are nice. They add too the whole cartoony feel of the game. The sound is decent but un-comparable too other games from around the same time. ADDICTIVENESS This was truly surprising. The game is very difficult too put down. The puzzle solving is satisfying and the platforming is enjoyable. With such a simple goal of getting a ball to the exit by involving it in puzzle solving. It is very addictive and fun. And it even has some replay-ability if you care enough to get all of the collectables. STORY Well, Its definitely unique. But I am not sure I would call it "Great" or even "Good". The story is about a wizard who was concocting a potion or something for a reason that is not given. And it explodes (Again for a reason that is not given.) launching the wizard back as his gloves fly off his hand and he falls through the floor. One of the gloves fly out the windows and another one lands in the potion or whatever. ANOTHER explosion occurs as the glove that fell into the potion comes out as "Cross-Stitch". The force of said explosion knocks 6 crystals off the tower. Glover, (The one that flew out the window) Uses his magic too turn the crystals into balls. It is now up to Glover to get the crystals before Cross-Stitch does so Glover can use their power too revive the wizard. Its not a fantastic story. But it kind of works. I guess. DEPTH There is not a lot of depth to this game. It is pretty small and there is not much to do other then collect things, kill enemies and beat the levels. DIFFICULTY The game truly shines here. The difficulty is perfectly balanced. It is truly difficult to figure out how to proceed. Overall its fantastic here. CONCLUSION I had a lot of fun with this game. I can see why it didn't sell a lot but I can't say it deserved it. In fact.. Y'know what? I am Opti, And I believe that Glover is better than Super Mario 64. YUP. YOU HEARD IT. I SAID IT. Anyway. I hope you enjoyed this review and remember its only my opinion. If you don't like this game than SO BE IT! Until next review, See ya! GRAPHICS I did not really find anything special here.
