Yeah... It's kinda a shame, come to think about it. Maybe next time, it could be altered so that, if you hadn't gotten any points before this season's TdV, you qualify for that Jersey - but only if no-one gets it this season.

Although I am going to do my best to try and get on the podium this season, and then next season, if I know I'd be on all month, I'm going to go for it fully. I may had started late, but if I perform well, then I may be a serious contender for next season.

Just need to build up the post and word counts, as they combined would give me the best chance of scoring points to try and make a surprise dash from outta nowhere to try and take a podium finish.

Paying more attention to yesterday's results it looks like we finally had one day without extremely horrid results. We're now approaching what used to be relatively dead days in past TdVs, and considering we're nearly on the last third of the competition this gives hopes of the results going higher nearing the end and promising interesting fights.

Also, now more than ever, the results seem to be very close. Second to fifth in Yellow were separated by 371 words, which isn't really that much; a small spree of just 5 or 6 posts would have allowed anyone to jump several positions in Blue; third to fifth in Red were separated by a mere 5 CP... Green wasn't close except for one position change, but overall we still see very close results.

I really hope we can finish this TdV with somewhat decent results in an attempt to balance how dead it's been the first half and a bit more.

Ironically, I think I helped to revive it myself with my spree of posts kicking things into high gear for everyone. And that, I am happy with.

Anyway, better get my voting on.

Maybe it's just because I've been actively participating, but I haven't seen the deadness. Yeah we haven't had a bunch of competitors, but the top two or three in each category has been a pretty good show all month.

Granted prior TdVs were more active overall, but let's appreciate what we have, yeah? Take the present while you have it, and I'd say this hasn't been a bad present. Vizzed is still awesome as ever.

This TdV is finally starting to get competitive. Usually these competitions start out strong and die off a little toward this part of the month. This TdV has been the exact opposite starting out dead and getting more competitive toward this part of the month.

Damn, I hate my timezones. I fall asleep, and then I miss people collecting the Yellow, and someone else blocking me from getting 7 points in the one I do get. But I've gotten 5 Blues in a row, while before I joined in, the Blue Jersey was swinging to and fro.

I'd love to think as I only started coming active with posting about half way through the TdV that technically I would have about double the points I will have at the end, but that's just a pipe dream.

AuroVee : Yeah, timezones play against non-Americans. The site is more active during the night, but sadly for us it means like 4 AM or later.

Still, there has been people earning overall jerseys and even the rainbow banner all the while dealing with this issue, but of course it requires so much more effort. You need to build a very high gap or else you're going to get stabbed while asleep, and even if you create such gap there's no telling it will be enough to last the several hours remaining until the day is over.

You have a good point there. It totally gives us Europeans a disadvantage of sorts, but it also allows us to get an early advantage as well.

I was about to make an observation that only staff seemed into the TDV (as only staff populates the top 5, the "most competitive" field), but then I looked at the TDV history, and realized that last TDV was an abnormality.

Outside of the last TDV (where Lexatom won, and I was top 5), I think the last time a TDV had a non-staff member in the top 5 was either the 2015 Fall edition (I forget if janus was a staff member at the time) or the 2015 Spring Edition, where I know thing1 wasn't a staff member (and finished 5th).

Need to get non-staff more invested in these events, or find a way to make it more reasonable for a non-staff member to compete. Because I maintain, staff generally has the advantage. This new AuroVee person is trying their best, but it's so difficult for a non-staff to do "well" enough to win.

Outside of Lexatom in the last TDV, I believe it's been all staff members winning for quite a while now.

Someone should do the research (I'm too busy), and find the following:

- number of staff in the top 5/10 of each TDV (to do this, you need to find out if the member was staff during the TDV as well)
- number of non-staff in the top 5/10. (Some current staff wasn't staff in their first TDV).
- number of winners who have been staff
- number of winners who were not staff at the time of their win
- which TDV's had the most activity from non-staff members (so as to take a hint as to how to improve the event for non-staff members)
- which TDV's had the least activity from non-staff members (to figure out what not to do).

Just my take. It's been more competitive, but it seems like it's the same 3-4 people every day, which isn't really competition to me, it's just a sign that only those people are invested. Happened last month between Yuna and Lexatom too.

Weird, I didn't get points for Red despite my weekly work yet I grabbed a point in Blue with 4 posts...

I'm not that sure Yuna is the quickest to 300, that would mean the current record holder for most points would have made +150 points in just the next 10 days and I doubt it's the case. I could probably go back and check, looks like I'm the person to turn to when it comes to facts and statistics this season

legacyme3 : One advantage staff will mostly always have is constant activity. We already fare well enough during non-TdV months, so we don't need to step up that much to compete regarding regular users who can come and go at will with no duty whatsoever. This is probably the main reason why Lexatom has been kind of absent after his win, because of a burnout upon increasing his usual pace so drastically. It even happens to staff members, so imagine for someone that hasn't the habit of regular activity.

We've already done several things to reduce the other advantages staff may have, but what David fears is that too strict limitations on staff may affect their productivity. We'll see if a new discussion starts during or after this TdV, but don't expect big changes in the near future. If we agree on something that doesn't need David to code anything then maybe we can see changes in July, but the chances aren't very high right now.

In my opinion, what we could do is have staff+ stick to their roles and duties and nothing else, meaning they would compete with limited actions while not affecting their quota or schedule in any way. After all, I'm closing in the top 10 just because of my staff work and my posts, so it's not impossible to fare well while limiting your fields of action. But who knows, I may not be seeing the flaws of this idea or someone may have a better one, so until a discussion is started this will only be a personal opinion.

Well, let's see how well I do in the last 10 or so days and see how it turns out in the end. I might hit the top 5 if I keep this up, maybe even the top 3 if I'm lucky enough.

EX Palen : Don't we always end up having to have that discussion after any TdV? lol Personally, and this is coming from someone who has always been against adding more staff restrictions to the TdV, I think adding a cutoff so that any CP earned after a staff user hits the normal user CP limit on a daily action should be in place. Being allowed to earn more points because you can do more of the same action is unfair. Aside from that, I'm not sure how I feel about limiting the staff. But hey, any progress is good progress, right? That would be a step in the right direction.

Of course in my opinion eliminating CP from the TdV is ideal and eliminates all issues with powerlevel. We ran the TdV for years without CP categories -- let's go back to that. If we want the CP competition then bring back the CP VCS. We complained that there were too many competitions before, but that was when we were trying to run a TdV one momth, VCS the next month, CP VCS the month after that, and then start back over with the TdV and so on. With the VCS now sadly defunct, that opens up a chance for a CP VCS or CP TdV. We could then have the CP stuff done AND not have the CP balance issues in the TdV. Granted we would have to balance the other, but I still think we'd be better off separating things. Or maybe even having jerseys for staff and for non-staff in CP.
These are just semi-random ideas, so they may not be the best.

As for the results yesterday -- I was so close to a seven pointer! I just wasn't quite fast enough. I doubt I can even get five today, but I'm far from being ready to dropout even for one day.

legacyme3 : if you check https://www.vizzed.com/boards/tourdevizzed-halloffame.php you'll be able to see the winners of each Jersey which should help answer the first four questions.

Eirinn : Getting rid of the CP basically means Red and Green go back three years in time, something that isn't very welcome by many for the amount of spam it generates. CP can generate an advantage for staff but at least we can counter any unfair earning by revoking and thus we can undo the damage.

Anyway, the perfect solution doesn't exist, so there's always going to be a debate. I don't think David has the time to code new things for the TdV, so most of the possible solutions are in queue for now. We can discuss temporary solutions that can be managed by the mod+, but that's all we can do as of now. Worst of timings for big changes.

Eirinn : Having CP involved in the TdV always gives the site a surge of content and honestly that content is just as valuable to the site than posts are so I don't want to discourage that type of content from being submitted. Also, that'd be unfair for those who aren't big posters but still want to compete in helping out the site in non-posting ways.

I can confirm that Yuna1000 has reached 300 points the quickest. She can thank the lack of activity for that, especially in the blue category.

I only checked as far back as Spring '16, since Geeo's record of 415 ( or was it 435? ) at the time and since seems the only ones that could have a chance of breaking 300 by now.

Yuna is definitely the first one to reach it this quickly. In the Summer '16 competition, when I managed to hit 485 at the end, I only had 292 by this day in the competition, and had about 15 less in the Fall '16 one. It'll probably be close with how competitive each of the Jerseys have been, but it's more than possible for her to break 500 if she can manage at least 20 points per day.

--EDIT--
