I used to be VERY into the Legend of Zelda series. I'd been thinking about it for a while & noticed some things that bothered me about it. 

There are ever only either 3 trifoce bearers or 3 triforce pieces(when it's whole)at any one time; a trinity of sorts. The triforce bearers have marks on their hands, similar to the mark of the beast. They all can use magic, which God does not want us practicing and, in essence, while we aren't practicing it in real life, we are practicing it in the game.

If we feel evil in our hearts, even though we haven't committed the evil, Jesus said we were still sinning. That's why I believe that, even though we may not be practicing the magic in real life, we are practicing it in the game & therefore are sinning. 

Having said that, I also realize that a good portion of the video games out there have some form of magic in them. I believe that, if we truly love God, He will tell us if those video games are wrong to play. He wouldn't leave us hanging.

Surgiac :  You are spot on.  The closer your relationship with God gets, the more you will be convicted of things that are "out of place" in your life.  The problem with us humans is, we don't always listen, because our old enemy tries to convince us that we will "lose something" if we give up this or that and that something bad will happen to us if we let that thing go.  All lies.

Comparing for example child abuse in real life to some pixelated fantasy "magic" is in my eyes a little far fetched.

This would fall under the old saying, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" meaning no matter what you call a rose, it is still a rose & still smells the same. Just because someone may call a sin in God's eyes by another name, it's still a sin in God's eyes & still just as smelly as it was before.

it seems to me that this discussion has somewhat distracted many of you from the point all we need to do to find out if something is Bad for us to do is ask dose it bring glory to god , dose it cause us to praise god , dose it bring us closer to god if it does not then god does not like it no matter how we dress it up as imagination, illusion or a bunch of 1's and 0's if it stops us thinking about god it is bad

I believe that it has to do with how the magic is portrayed in the game, movie or TV show. I have always had problems with playing games with magic or some type of it in it. I used to watch movies and TV shows where they used magic in the shows.. which is not what I would of wanted to do now. I play many different games.. I have noticed though that if God see's disapproval in some type of game I start playing I start feeling guilty or bad for playing it which in my mind is god tugging at my heart saying .. you shouldn't play this game there are tons of games out there for you to play and this is not one of them. Lately god tugs at my heart a lot it seems.. I know some people wouldn't understand it or think it's weird. Every sense I started praying and speaking with god again the past couple of months it's like he has been speaking to me or trying to help me with something I did wrong. Some examples of games I started playing earlier in 2013 were games like GTA and Saints ROW... I know that god doesn't approve of me playing GTA for sure.. because I started feeling bad after every round that I played it. Saints Row is another story.. as of which I never play it but I finished it without god tugging at my heart to stop playing. I guess GTA is somewhat more descriptive than Saints Row though... which doesn't matter. I was playing Runescape a lot in my earlier child hood years.. it has a lot of magic in it but I never felt bad for playing it I just quit playing it because it got boring and they kept changing it to much. I never played Dungeons and Dragons online because when we were still going to church that was one of the games the church said was not to be played.. and I wanted to play it at a certain point but my mom refused for me to play it. I was so angry .. but now I realize that it was just her looking out for me.. and I am glad that I never played it. I started playing Lord of The Rings online.. I don't think there is anything wrong with it because my brother and sister - in -law play it and they are Christians as well. They know all about the temptations of gaming and things in general and have taught me so much when it comes to God and Christianty in general. Honesty I feel like I could go on and on about the kinds of magic games I used to play and it wouldn't matter.. because I used to be addicted to gaming and had major problems with it. Now I think it does matter what kind of magic games tv shows movies and different things concerning magic you play. I can't say what's right or wrong because I don't know the honest truth about it. I do know that I get horrible feelings about games that spark evil. I then instantly stop playing it or ask my brother or a Christian friend about it because I really don't want to keep making mistakes. I especially don't want to walk away from god.. with an addiction to gaming.. especially magic gaming. I rarely play games now and devote my life to God though and I am doing good.. I just hope temptation don't give in. I would like to ask the ones who took the time of reading this how you feel about me playing Lord of the Rings online. I still haven't got a negative feeling or response from somebody but I would like to know what you guys thought.

My mother says that all magic is from the Devil. As God does not deal with magic and if it is not of God then it is of the Devil is what she says. I don't think it is that bad though. Or even real. Bending the Laws of Physics and Nature? Seems a bit far fetch'd to me. But if it is real then I have no problem with it. As long as I am not invovled in it.

In my opinion magic in video games is perfectly acceptable since it is completely fictional. It is just pixels, polygons, and code. (And rarely voxels.)
