JigSaw : I think you are a little confused with what Hoochman means by contradictions. He is referring to people who claim that there are different verses in the Bible that seemed to contradict itself. Your examples only display your lack of understand of the verses, but I'll answer them anyways.


"Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed."

If you read at where the focus of the entire chapter is, it is about the their motives for God and it is for the ways that are pleasing to the Lord. So these plans are not some random plan like, "I want to start a business." These plans are the ones that honors God.


"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."

This verse is a comfort for those who are living in doubt or is scared about going in the wrong path. This has nothing to do with opinions. That is big stretch.


"He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them."

Ummm, this is saying that he is in control...meaning that as days and seasons go by, and kings and leaders come and go, everything that happens, God is in control of everything, past, present and future. This show one of God's attributes, which is sovereignty.


"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong."

Oh come on...you should know better than this. This verse is addressed to Christians. More specifically, it was addressed to the leaders in Corinth, because that city is a sinful and horrible city and the church is struggling to demonstrate to the Lord.


"If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

Actually from your own sins and wrongdoings. The wages of sins is death, but

These are not contradictions, but just an imposition of how you think the Bible does not make sense, when in fact, you are just picking phrases out of context so that it would suit your opinions (in fact, you did not even do a good job, with no background checks or no context check)

I don't know if you know this, but each version of the Bible is taken from the original greek and hebrew manuscripts. And if you compare different versions now, they are not that different. I've heard that argument so many times, it's getting old. Can you think of something new?

Use what you learn in school, in English, history, science, philosophy, and plain logic to find out whether the claims are true

Subtle mutations form individual traits like darker/lighter skin, environmental variables form different immunities and resistances, cultural inheritance brings forth traditions which may also affect health, and eventually you have a healthy, diverse population. Is that correct?

All relgious books/ texts will have contradictions because so much of it is open to interpretation. I wish there wasn't any contradictions or any mistakes so people can find some truth from the past.
Look up "ANACHRONISMS" on the Internet and you'll learn fast about many things that don't add up or make much sense at all.
If anyone knows a tiny bit of information on how the Bible was put together and the translations, it's easy to understand why there are Anachronisms in the holy books.
