Xenon (Arcadia, V 2.3) 05-08-14 04:14 AM	xenon review Xenon is a solid shoot-em up vertical scroller from the Bitmap Brothers. It was released in the late 80s on various systems including Atari St, Amiga, and a few others including the pc. Graphics 7: The graphics are not flashy but the metallic colours and the design of the ships and landscapes are fairly nice. Backgrounds are quite similar throughout the game occasionally changing in color and texture being mostly tiles rather that the black space of Xenon 2. Visually this game is not as attractive as Rtype or Xenon 2 but its ok. Sound 8: The music is atmospheric and fits the alien space theme of the game. Some of the tracks repeat on multiple levels. Overall the Bitmap brothers games had quite good music. Addictiveness 7: This game could be disappointing to some, because of its difficulty, for others they might like the challenge. I gave it a 7 because once you get to level 2 its difficulty ramps up ridiculously and this might put some people off the game Story 5: The story is very simplistic something along the lines you have to stop a bunch of aliens called Xenites. I guess it could have been worked on a bit but then again most shooters dont have elaborate storys maybe excepting games like Tyrian which is like a mini novel and complex. Depth 7: There is not much depth to it except blasting as many enemies as possible and staying alive! However one of the big features of the xenon ship is its ability to transform into a ground moving tank which can fight enemies on the ground and take powerups from the ground,  or a flying ship which can traverse obstacles and fight arial enemies.   There are multiple powerups such as invincibility, laser cannons and cluster bombs. Laser Cannons and cluster bombs seem to have a time limit as well as invincibility. Asterix 05-07-14 05:34 AM	Asterix This game is a real hidden gem from Sega. I have played the other 2 asterix games for this series and this one is by far the best. This game is under appreciated.  I would say that this game in actual game play is superior to sonic for the same system though it was nowhere near as popular. The graphics are very good for master system. This was one of the later games so its kind of expected. Very colorful and  the enemies and characters look very much like those in the comics. The music is very nice it is atmospheric and has a real Asterix theme to it, some of the best on the system id say. It is a addictive game, the levels can be challenging but they are not overly difficult and you can get lives and extra powerups fairly easily so its not too hard. Id say you wont get bored because it is challenging and the levels have good variety. The story is that Getafix has been kidnapped by Romans a common theme in the comics and you must rescue him to secure the magic potion or the village is doomed. Its fairly simple. There is good depth in this game. The levels are challening there is good variety and the ability to choose Asterix or Obelix for each level make replayabilty possible There are many power-ups and bonus levels just like in Mario where you can get coins, potions bones and lives. The Dogmatix bonus stage is a nice touch too. The difficulty is moderate to hard, its not too bad if you watch what you are doing. The final stage was not very hard which was a bit of a disappointment Overall this is a very  fun solid platformer it is a underrated gem which deserves more recognition and I recommend you play  this rather than  the other 2 Asterix games on this series which I didnt think were very good. I cant speak for Asterix on other systems as I havent played many Asterix games on those.  Great game
DecapAttack 05-07-14 05:08 AM	Decap Attack Review De-Cap Attack is similar to Psycho Fox for Master system and  uses several concepts and in game mechanics and power ups from that game. For example you have the slingshot pole, can jump enemies into the ground, a similar bonus lever  and have a pet skull which acts as a projectile which is analogous the bird on the shoulder in Psycho Fox. The story however is quite different, having a sort of Halloween ghoulish type of theme  with monsters and mad-professors. The graphics are average but quite colorful and the levels and monsters are quite creative. Its not stunning visually but then again who cares, game play is important too. The sound is very nice the music is dark and quirky and is really interesting. The game is quite difficult. In  Psycho Fox, one hit could kill you unless you had the bird power up, however despite you having more health in de cap there a many more monsters and the levels are more tricky as well as the bosses. This game is much harder than psycho fox and without save states is very difficult but this is part of its appeal. This also adds to the depth of the game as you can acquire potions and some are quite useful, such as the remove enemies from screen potion ( found in psycho fox ) and the invincibility. The key is to know when to use them. There are also certain items you need to find in your quest which tie into the story. The story is  fairly interesting but I wouldn't say it is very deep or engaging. Overall I would highly recommend De cap as a difficult and different looking plat former. Do not expect to be coddled in this game. If you are a fan of unusual looking games and plat formers and you  liked psycho fox you will enjoy this game a lot.
