Legend of Zelda, The

The Legend of Zelda: An interesting place to start
So, the Legend of Zelda. This should be a fun game!

I'm personally glad I beat this game before writing this review, since I didn't want to jump the gun on any part of the game I deemed "cheap" or "unfair". Anyways, let's get to this review, shall we? Firstly, the graphics. I'm really glad to say that the emulator that I was playing it on made Hyrule look GORGEOUS. Smooth framerate, very high quality coloring and top-notch quality really make this a recommended version of the game to play. But as to the graphics themselves, they also still look very nice for the time. However, there really should be more setpieces to the land of Hyrule itself, as its very easy to get lost, or at the least, a better map. That gray square is an inexcusable excuse for a map, and for first time players, I highly recommend you look online for a guide or a map, so you won't get frustrated. Next, the sound. The music is nice to listen to, its not screechy or high pitched, very easy on the ears, but the repetitiveness can definitely turn people off from the experience. There's a very limited amount of tracks in the game, and they loop very quickly, so you could be pressing the mute button on the emulator rather soon. Addictiveness I'll save for last, that's a special case, so let's move on to the story. The story isn't too big or grand or epic, its another "save the princess" plot, although it is fleshed out a little more, showing that Ganon (NOT "Gannon", as the game calls him) took the Triforce of Power, and Zelda, not wanting him to have both Triforces (yes, there were two at this time, not three), broke the Triforce of Wisdom into 8 pieces. As Link, you need to gather the 8 pieces and save Zelda. Its fine for what it is, it doesn't need to delve into the history of Hyrule or whatnot too much, so that gets a pass from me. The depth is very nice, Hyrule is diverse and there's a lot to do. A bit of a shame there's no sidequests or the like to do, heck, even some towns or int... Read the rest of this Review
Sonic Adventure 7

Sonic Adventure 7....OY.
So...Sonic. Adventure. 7.

Where did we go wrong here? Oh, let's count the ways! :D Firstly, the graphics, or lack thereof. This game looks HORRIBLE. The backgrounds are ugly, Sonic himself looks like complete and utter ass, and this is an overall shame to the great Game Boy handheld system. Hell, GAME GEAR games look far superior than this. Secondly, the music, or lack thereof! The tracks sound like...like...someone was forced to puke these tracks back up and put them in a blender and throw in the results. Oh GOD, this is also an affront to the Game Boy and Game Gear...Next, Addictiveness. Let's say I just lost my mind at the first level and I'll explain why later on down the road. The story, nonexistent. I guess I'll have to consult the game man...oh...whoops. And the depth, oh god the depth. If you make me lose my mind at the first level of the game, then I have zero hope for you. NONE. Let's get to the difficulty, oh yes, the difficulty, how I've longed for this. Let's see why that's rated a 9, shall we? It's rated a 9 for the wrong possible reasons. Its not fun hard, or difficulty spike hard, its FAKE hard. Here's the big reason why: the control. Sonic has nowhere NEAR the amount of speed he has in the main games, heck, even on Game Gear! He has horrible traction and I have difficulty getting him to jump. Even when he does jump, once he hits an enemy, he goes straight out of ball mode and sets himself up to take a hit! What's more, his jumping physics are so off! He feels so heavy and I constantly have to find myself holding the right arrow key to at least get him to cooperate with my jumps. Even then, I find myself landing in so many bottomless pits or dying due to cheap enemy placement, UGH, this game is HORRIBLE! Once you put that all in perspective, horrid graphics, horrid sound, fake difficulty out the wazoo, no immersion into the world or the story or the Sonic mythos, and you've got a horrible, horrible game. Yes, I know this is a pirated g... Read the rest of this Review
Pokemon Flora Sky

Wow. Just Wow.
THIS IS IT. This is the game I was waiting and waiting to see on this site. I absolutely LOVE this game. It's just absolutely amazing how much work and care went into making this. I had such a great time playing this, and anyone who's a fan of the later gens definitely needs to check this one out.

First things first: the graphics. Graphics are Emerald quality and look stunning. Every area has a distinct feel and few glitches ensue while playing the game. My personal favorites are the alternate dimensions, where everything has a creepy vibe to it. It's just wonderful.

The sound: This is Emerald's soundtrack and it's just superb. Every track in here is just stellar, and I always look forward to hearing it again. Some Pokémon cries do sound a bit "off", but I'm giving that a pass due to the .wav files being difficult to send through.

The addictiveness: I played this game to no end for about a week. There is just so much to do that the re-playability level is astounding. There are different worlds to explore, and so much to do. Expect about 30-40 hours to be filled getting every last thing done. (for Pokémon standards, that's awesome).

The story: The story's great for Gen 3 Pokémon standards. It's complex, the feud between legends is compelling, and I've always waited to see what was coming next. Just superb, regretted nothing.

Depth: There is SO MUCH, as I've stated before, to this world. Pokémon from Gens 4 and 5 have come around, and a lot of them have reworked movepools to fit in better with Gen 3. If you have favorites from those gens, chances are good that they're found in this game. Again, there is about 30-40 hours of content to do (especially if you start doing the Battle Frontier or similar places), that it's phenomenal that the memory can hold it all.

Difficulty: I think the difficulty for this game is just right. Some of the earlier gym leaders can be a bit rough, but when you can... Read the rest of this Review

The Review I've been waiting for
THIS IS IT. This is safely the first Pokémon game that I do NOT enjoy playing. The level design was unnecessary, the moves were inconsistent, and I was never a huge fan of R/S as opposed to Emerald.

Graphics: I NEVER liked R/S graphics, just because everything was incredibly pointed and unlifelike, so to speak. There was too much sharpness in it, whereas Emerald fixed up the graphics nicely.

I do like the sounds of R/S/E, so that's still high on this list.

Addictiveness: THIS is where the game crashed and burned for me. I found myself frustrated with the level design (too much sparse grass made training for the 5th gym a pain, not helped by the fact that the way the tiling was used made it more difficult to navigate than anything). I found the alternate paths and missions alright, but considering now that I'm stuck in the boundaries of space and time because I screwed up on Lugia, that is nearly inexcusable. For another matter: The starter Pokémon have GREAT movepools which only get better as time goes on. Why don't the others? This was something that could've been EASILY fixed and ruined the game for me.

Story: I was never a fan of R/S's story as compared to Emerald's: Lack of being involved in Aqua's/Magma's conflict wrecks the promise this game had (not that there was much to begin with). For what it is, though, it is decent, so it earns a passing grade in my book.

Depth: This goes equally low with Addictiveness for the same reasons above: I AM GLITCHED IN TIME AND SPACE. I refuse to restart the game, for I will only suffer endless torture for doing so. Really, this game lacks depth, due to the awful level design. I really don't like it.

Difficulty: MY GOD, THE DIFFICULTY. It's practically nonexistent. The Elite 4 has the same team they did in the original game, which was a MASSIVE letdown, further ruining the game for me. (I rebattled some trainers with the Match Call feature, and found one Yo... Read the rest of this Review
Pokemon Leaf Reborn

Pokemon Leaf Reborn
First things first: This game has consistency like tar. Seriously. The National Dex should've been implemented into the game from the outset to give people more of an advantage. The game itself is just like Leaf Green, with the same decent graphics and the same story, essentially. What is different, though, is the game's design and Pokémon options. Level 100 Legendaries? I didn't find any of those, so whoever is talking about that, play it again. What I did receive, though, are useful Pokémon with immunities to Poison (for...some...reason. I never found myself getting poisoned all that much, but it IS a moot point). Another feature implemented is that 95% of the weather is rain, giving Magikiller some powerful 1 Hit KO moves at terrifying speeds. Water types also get a nice boost, so remember that. The Elite 4 was surprisingly challenging, with some interesting strategies and nice moves. Lance in particular was a bitch to beat. Other than that, the game also has the levels of trainers and even gym leaders be the same as their Leaf Green counterparts, which is a real shame, since there are much more abusable Pokémon to use this time around. Would've loved some variety, but you can't ask for everything. You can find powerful Pokémon in the caves (Rhydon and Machamp easily come to mind), and catching those are highly recommended. In the end, the game is decent, but it still needs work. Play it and decide for yourself!
