WALL-E Featured Review

WALL-E Review by: FaithFighter - 8.3/10

Wall-e:Bots and lots of fun.
Eve: Directive?
Me: Write a review for Wall-e!

So here we go! I personally am quite of fan of Wall-e, both the movie and the game. I even have the Ultimate wall-e bot (unfortunately his battery doesn't work, but I will be trying to find him a new one. Anyways...) My favorite part of the whole scenario is the robots. Most of them are just plain adorable. There are a couple of things that  i do not like. For instance, the way that they portrayed us humans. We're not all fat and lazy, you know! Then there's that stupid song that Wall-e listens to. But other than that, I really enjoy everything else. I will give you a little tip. The wii version is better than the ps2 version. The graphics are better, and there are more fun elements to this version than the ps2. So what makes this game good? Let's take a look.

Graphics: 10
Typically, I do not give graphics a 10, but the graphics of the ps2 would already have been rated a 9, so the one on the wii gets a 10. Makes sense, right? Anyways, the graphics in this game are better because (I feel) there were more details and designs put into this version than were put into the other one. Before I get to the differences, I should just go over what was good on its own. Eve's laser is pretty well designed. And you can really tell the difference between the regular laser and the super laser. Both in the laser itself and the destruction that it leaves. Another thing that I felt was good were the animations. When you play as wall-e and eve together, eve picks wall-e up and hovers for a more powerful jump. I would expect it to glitch every now and then, but I do not recall seeing that happen yet. It was perfectly smooth! Probably some of the best graphics were put into the eve levels, where you fly around, sometimes racing against the clock. Of course, it might not necessarily be that the graphics are better in these levels, but that they seem better. Anyways, as I mentioned, there are some differences. First off, I think the graphics overall are sharper on the wii version than on the ps2. Secondly, variously levels have more detail put into them. There is a level that appears in both games. They have the same general idea. You play as eve and you are trying to catch the fly-away wall-e that cannot seem to control the power from his fire extinguisher. In the wii version you fly around the asteroid/junk field around the axiom space cruiser. You will fly through some craters, amongst the junk around the ship. Basically, it just has more detail put into it. Whereas the ps2, basically you flew through the asteroid field along a set course to catch up with wall-e.

Sound: 9
The sound on the wii version is every bit as good as the one on the ps2. As I said earlier, I hate that one song, thankfully, I only hear it at the beginning a little bit, so I can easily just turn the music off for a bit. Everything else, though is really good, especially the sound of Eve's laser. Ah...what a pleasant sound. And what could be better than the explosion that follows? There is some good music throughout the game, but nothing that tends to get stuck in your head. The department that really scores the points for this department is the realistic sound effects. Even for a story and setup such as this one, the realistic sound effects make it more believable. That, and they are still fun to listen to at the same time. So I still think that the sound has a quality of 9.

Addictiveness: 7
The game is kind of addicting. I could probably fly around with eve for hours at a time if there was a free style mission for her. As I mentioned before, there are more things in this game than were in the ps2 version. The different playing styles definitely adds to the addictiveness department.  The original flying levels only allowed you to fly along a set course. There is nothing wrong with that, of course, but it just gives you more things to do when you can explore your surroundings, fly under and over obstacles, and sometimes just blast right through them. Having the wall-e/eve co-op mode also added more to the game, it added more of an element that makes the area more interesting to explore. I think that they could have capitalized on it a bit more, by running through a course in co-op mode, having obstacles above, and below you, but even so just having this ability added something to the game. Also, I liked the change that happened between the ps2 version and the wii version. There are points in both games where you have to cross lanes of traffic on the axiom. In the ps2 version, crossing the lanes was like playing frogger, as you hopped across traffic in an overhead view. In the wii version, the camera and control style stay the same as the rest of the level, and you have to make it across the highway. (sometimes crossing back and forth to get the key cards to the doors) I do not know about anyone else, but I just felt that addition added so much more to the gameplay, making it more challenging and fun.

Story: 8
The story is pretty good, if a bit exaggerated. Basically, the world supposedly becomes so trashed that mankind has to evacuate the planet (I feel that a lot of environmentalists wrote that story!) Anyways, they left a crew of Wall-e bots to clean up all the trash. It's been about 700 years since the planet was evacuated, and there is only one wall-e bot left...still faithfully doing his job day in and day out. One day, a shuttle descends to the earth in his area and drops off an eve bot--whose job is to look for plant life. Long story short, eve finds a plant that wall-e has in his collection of things, and the shuttle comes back to pick up the bot. Wall-e hitches a ride on the shuttle to follow eve. And that is pretty much how the story starts off. If i say any more, I might spoil too much. So that'll be all for now.

Depth: 7
This version of the game is not as long as that on the ps2 version, but what it lacks in length, it makes up for in quality. There are more little things to be found throughout the level that I do not remember in the other game. There is one level that I was in the trash dump. I had to take a ride on the conveyor belt without getting trashed by electric beams and blockades. But in addition to this, there are things that I have not been able to unlock yet, because I have not taken the time to collect all the wall-e tokens and other little items throughout the levels. So, there might be even more levels than I have found so far.

Difficulty: 7
Wall-e is not a game that is atrociously difficult, but there are some tricky spots throughout the game. The controls are relatively easy to handle, and overall they are just fun. I would say that this game is perfect for mid-level players, and fun for anyone.

Overall: 8.3
Wall-e is a lot of fun. With great graphics and a decent story, this game is sure to give entertainment to people of all age groups. Well, that's all for now, my directive has been completed. Hope I wasn't too boring.
