Urban Trial Freestyle Review by: darthyoda - 8/10

There are Freestyle Trials in Urban areas!
Have you ever felt like doing a back-flip on a motorcycle? Well, you are right, it's dangerous, but not if you use this game. You can front-flip, back-flip, fly several hundred feet, try to land precisely, or just race against the track master, it's your choice! I can tell you how hard it is to be the track master, but once your there, it takes a while before you are dethroned as king, because it's hard to beat those guys who just beat you by a mile. Race me in this Urban Trial!

Graphics: This is a 2D game, that wants to be an almost 3D game. Why do I say that? Well, the camera angle isn't exactly at 90 degrees from the biker, who is you. This means that it's a little odd. But once you get used to it it's fine. The graphics are good, once you get used to the weird camera angles. The graphics are precise, but they could be a lot better. It really come across average. But they did have good detail on the clothes you where, but you have to save up for that. (I'll talk about that later.) The motorcycle is also good, especially the tires. When the tires start spinning it gives a real feel to it, it feels as though the tires are really spinning, the dirt is really flying, but since the graphics are all around average it doesn't seem quite right. But I would really say that it's just a nice visual style, especially for what the game is.
Although the graphics aren't the best, it's still not bad. I give it an 8/10.

Sound: This is where the game starts to feel a little repetitive... The music is not my style so I almost immediately turned it off. The motorcycle sounds realistic, but it just gets old after a while; the sound doesn't change when you upgrade your motor, and this makes it get old after 5 tracks. There are people talking, but this usually consists of them talking about the dangers of you driving in the current place you are. So that makes it also get old. Tate Multimedia took many sounds and made the realistic, but they didn't go beyond just making realistic sounds, and this leaves us with a feeling of disappointment. I really think that the game has so much potential, but they just didn't do their best in this category.
Their engine starts up roaring, but they slowly choke it, and it dies... They only get a 7/10 here...

Addictiveness: The game is addictive. It's fun to just do flips, see how many flips you can do in one race, or see how high you can jump, but after a while, you lose interest, and by the time you reach the final stages, you don't really care any more. Getting more stars to unlock the next track isn't worth it. But that doesn't mean the game doesn't have it's addictive qualities. A fun, easy game is always good. It's a fast game, so if you have just a few minutes to kill, pull it up, just watch that clock to make sure you aren't there for an hour playing... But after you have played the same track five times it gets old... As with almost everything in this game.
Although addictive, it loses some addictive qualities after a few times of playing the same thing. 8/10.

Story: N/A The only story there, is that you are a racer, and you are going through Urban Areas with high speeds, that's it. So really I would say it's not applicable.

Gameplay/ Controls: This is the games strong point. The game is average or below average on many things, but not here. You need to know three buttons. Up, Over, and Over. Or if you prefer, you can use the "W" key to move. That's it! For a game that's really incredible, I like the games that use few keys. It makes it easy to use! The game is smooth, and despite a lot going on, when you flip and land and just go nuts, it doesn't lag at all! This makes the game fun, because despite all of it's problems, it has nothing here. It's done perfectly! This is what makes the game all worth it! All of it's short comings are gone here! This is what makes the game cool again, if for no other reason, this is what I like. Some were complaining about the game being too weird with only needing the up button to play, but they weren't playing it right anyway.
The motor starts up and it keeps strong here! A great big 9/10!

Depth: This is a kind of hard part, as I doubt there are very many people who have actually played the entire game. I am the track master of a track in the last world, and I only had 3 stars... The hightest possible is a 5 of 5, and for most worlds it's almost impossible to beat them, but how did I get that? Well, not only is the track REALLY hard, very few people care at that point. The depth is really lacking, and very few people play it to the end. This makes the game seems short, as you need 184 stars to unlock the next track, but you only have 183 and you can't beat your best in anything... That makes you rage quit, and before you know it, you uninstalled the game. But, there is still a lot you could be doing. Improve your flips, increase speed, and once you know that, it's easy to do! I found that for a game with only four worlds, there was an incredible amount to do. In each track, you can get the 5 stars, after that, there's another track you can do, in one of the several worlds... Then the Challenges. This makes the game have much more than you initially think, and that's why I like the game!
Although at first it seems like little, it has a lot for a racing game! I give it a 7/10.

Difficulty: The game has it's hard parts, but really it just seems to be an average difficulty in the end. Once you learn the little things that improve speed, and handling, it's almost too easy. This makes it have a much lower rating, but really what is there to learn? Well, mainly how to take a dip and rise effectively, when to hit the forward and when to hit the back... It's really just that, and in the end, you get an easy racing game that has a few tricks... I really wish they had more than just that though... The game falls short here, and they end up with an average game.
It's hard, but only when you run out of things to improve, then it gets overly hard. That's why it averages out at an 8/10.

The game is fun, and for a game that's just there for the purpose of killing a few minutes it's a good game! But aside from that, it falls short on many things. I love the game, but that's something that I can't explain, despite all problems, it's fun. You have a challenge, can you master it? That's what makes this game fun, not the graphics, not the sound, but the challenge of getting to be the best! That why I rate it at an 8 of 10 despite all the problems... Fun, but falls short on some things. Verdict: Okay, but could be much better! Worth it, if you get it for a LOW price!
