Baseball- Never Knew Mario Was A Real Person Baseball for the Game Boy is a mixed bag of tricks. In this game, you get to play the game of baseball. Nine innings, 18 half innings, 54 outs, the game resembles the real game of baseball itself. Unless, of course, you count how the pitchers have the ability to regularly pitch at 107 miles per hour, Mario and Luigi are in the game, and how the ball moves through the air with the usual rise and fall sound. Even with these things, the game is really a very good game. You get to chose between two teams game modes, which are Japan and USA mode, two teams, the W-Bears and the R-Eagles, and four starting pitchers on each team. The W-Bears have the special starter of Mario, while the R-Eagles have the special starter of Luigi. The starting lineups -minus the pitchers of course- are always consistent from game to game.
Graphics 6: The graphics in this game are not that great, but they are unique. I like how I can make out heads in the crowd whenever I make contact with the ball.
Sound 8: I love the catchy tunes whenever you play the game. Also, whenever someone hits a pop up, you can hear the standard sounds for something going up and down in cartoons.
Addictiveness 9: This game is actually very addictive, despite what I originally thought of the game. When I first played, I thought I would never play it again and that had wasted my money. I later proved myself wrong when I pulled out the game again. I was so engrossed that I would play for long periods of time without noticing it. This game has the ability to suck you in for hours at a time.
Story : With all sports games, there is no story associated with the game. You always have the option to make up a story as you play, such as how there is a seven game series for the world championship, but that is not built into the game.
Depth 2: This game is not very deep, mainly because you do the same thing over and over again. While the outcomes might be different, you will definitely notice a pattern developing in your game play.
Difficulty 10: This game is actually extremely hard. Because there is no difficulty setting, you have to get used to one setting, which most likely is set on hard. Until you get really involved in the game, you will think this game deserves a 20 in this category.
Overall 7: This game is very interesting in how it performs. I personally expected something more along the lines of a season mode, where you control one team through a 162 game season, but I was wrong. I was pleasantly surprised, though, to see that you could not only play as a Mario character, but that the game offered a high level of difficulty that most sports games now and before do not offer. This is the perfect game for a sports fan who wants to challenge themselves in a game of baseball against a ruthless computer.
