I think Pokemon Red/Blue (and to a lesser extent, Gold/Silver) ate up more time with fake cheats, codes and secrets than any of us would care to admit.

I've only been to a couple conventions and I don't see myself going to one again in the near future. Not that I don't like them because they're awesome events, I just can never seem to make any time for them, what with the closest one being a 3 hour drive from me. I would go again if I had the chance, and I hope one day I'll be able to go to a larger convention (the ones I've been at so far have been mid-sized).

Almost everyone has had experiences with supposed cheat codes that ended up being rumors, especially if you were a kid of the nerdy persuasion in school and started playing games before internet connections became so prevalent and it wasn't as easy to instantly confirm or deny something.

This thread is to talk about those ridiculous, convoluted, and outlandish cheats and secrets that you heard about from some random kid whose uncle supposedly works for Nintendo, etc.

My favorites would have to be the rumors attached to the original Pokemon games. Considering what a popular and all-encompassing set of games they were, people were always looking for something new to discover in them. I'm sure we've all heard the rumors about the Pokegods, moving the truck by the SS Anne to get Mew, getting behind Bill's house, and what have you.

So share your cheat codes that, in fact, turned out to be urban legends.

You'd probably get better results if you PM'd him about this.

And? I'm sure everyone here knows about the existence of this game, so why post a description that looks like it was copy/pasted from Wikipedia?

Gilgamesh is a character that travels across various Final Fantasy worlds including V, VI, VIII, IX, XI and XII. I always thought that was a pretty nice link.

It was pretty disappointing as a Final Fantasy game but not a bad game on its own merits. Basically a Devil May Cry clone.

I've played the demo, and it's not bad. It's almost identical to Phantasy Star Universe for PS2/PC, which is a pretty good thing. The only problem is that playing it on such a small screen gives me a headache. I don't have the problem with other PSP games, so I'm not sure why. At any rate, I'll probably pick it up once it goes down in price because I'm pretty poor right now.

It hit me pretty hard when I first played it and I was young and inexperienced, but it's not as sad as I used to think it was. I was a Genesis kid growing up and having played Phantasy Star IV, it wasn't my first experience with a main character dying. That being said, I really liked Aerith and I had put alot of work into her and made her pretty awesome, so I felt it was kind of a waste as well. Anyways, there are probably sadder moments, but that sticks out because of the popularity of the game tied with it being most people's first experience with RPGs on such a scale.

I'm new here! I like video games, so that's mostly where I plan on posting. I'm mostly into RPGs and classic 8bit and 16bit platformers/shooters, but I'm not really picky. Please don't kill me.

The reason Lion King is so hard is because games had to be much shorter back then due to technical limitations. How would you feel if you were to buy a game for $40+ and breeze through it in an afternoon? If a game is too easy, it can be completed too quickly, leaving the player feeling cheated when it's over.

It's a double edged sword. On one hand, artificial difficulty is usually really cheap and it's easy to lose your temper when you die for the 10th time in the exact same spot. However, you get a wonderful sense of accomplishment when you finally finish it. Stick with it.

Anything by Phoenix Games or Wisdom Tree can fall under this. The worst ratio of hype to disappointment for me was Final Fantasy VIII. I'm usually a big fan of Final Fantasy games, but the story was terrible, none of the characters were likable, and the draw/junctioning system was a huge step down. I wouldn't be so bitter about it, but I was really excited for it and it didn't live up in the slightest.
