Here's another idea, Prop. You said that the shared site would have a front page with two links, one to the CTRPG site and another to the CTNP site. Couldn't we just take our link and have it redirect people to our Flash site? We wouldn't have to build a new site from scratch in that case.

I installed AIM on Saturday. I managed to chat with two people for a grand total of five minutes before I was abruptly disconnected from the network. AIM has not worked properly ever since. I'll probably have to devote an entire day towards figuring out what the hell is wrong with it, and possibly re-installing it if necessary.

I have a feeling of foreboding about this merger. I dunno, call it nervousness or whatever, but I just dislike the idea of deleting our lovely Flash website which Jake paid for. It seems like quite a waste. And as Apoc pointed out, we will no longer have our own website. Yes, it would be easier to update an HTML-based website, but couldn't we just add an HTML section to the existing website?

I need to be in the next meeting you guys are planning. When and where?

Now, if we DO go through with this merger, we'd better make sure it gets done right. I don't wanna find out that the presence of the other petition's site is actually lessening our credibility or something like that. So we'll need involvement in the development of the other petition's site, because when we merge, whatever they do will affect us. In return, they'll probably have to be involved in the development of our site just to make things fair.

What will the shared site's address be? Will it be hosted at Vizzed? And who is going to get the joyous task of going around telling everyone we've already mentioned the Petition to that we're at this NEW site now?

I'm not sure if a site change is even possible at this point unless we somehow provide a link between the flash site and the new one. People who are spreading the word about the Petition will be telling people to go to the Flash site; unless we place a link to the new site somewhere on the old site, people will be unaware that we've changed sites. Even worse, those that try to go to the old site after it has been deleted will be met with the dreaded Error 404 page and won't have any idea what to do.

I don't know what to think anymore. Apoc, Jake and Prop all present reasonable arguments. I'm seeing both sides of the issue and it's causing me to be unable to reach a decision.

If we DO decide to meet and chat, though, I'll have a problem. I don't have AIM...nor do I have MSN Instant Messenger, for that matter.

I do, however, use a free java-based chatroom that's always open 24/7. No downloading necessary, unless you have an outdated version of Java.

Hello there.

Wow, is that article a modified version of mine, a modified version of Apoc's, or something completely original?

In any case, I like it. Somehow it brought to mind the image of a wildly enthusiastic teenage guy in a TV commercial. =P (Though you might wanna explain what "CTRPG" means, or simply write out "Chrono Trigger Remake Petition Group".)

I don't know if some of the gaming sites you guys mentioned will like the article, though...it might be fine for someplace like Slashdot, but the overall feel of the article lacks the type of clinical professionalism inherent to gaming news sites. In those cases, it might be better to use either my version of the article or Apoc's version. (Though I gotta admit, I think Prop's version is better than mine -- it has enthusiasm, and that's something we're gonna need if we hope to get signatures.)

As for IGN, try emailing Matt Casamassina of cube.ign.com fame and telling him about us. He's usually open to ideas like ours and is generally willing to help, even if it's with something as small as mentioning us in his "mailbox" column. I doubt he'd use the actual article itself, since IGN usually only posts articles written by members of their staff, but if you tell Matt about us, he might write an article of his own and post it.

Heck, try emailing the editors of the other IGN channels, too. Perhaps the editors of the PS2 or PS3 channels, since Square/Enix games have traditionally appeared on Sony platforms, or the editors of the XBox360 and Revolution channels, since we're trying to get a Next-Gen version of CT made...

BTW, Jake CC'ed me a copy of his reply email to "Wayne", who is apparently the head honcho of the CTNP. Have you guys seen it?

Gosh, have I offended you, Prop?

I'm not chastizing you or anybody else. I know darn well that we all have busy lives, I can tell that just from the posts I've seen here. I was just trying to motivate and inspire you guys, that's all...

And I'm confident the people will bite if we inform enough of them about the launch. That could happen through a device such as Slashdot, so I'm happy to hear that the article is ready to go.

I just think it's time we stopped being scared about how people react to a low signature count. That fear has been delaying us from advertising on a major scale for weeks now. We've waited for people to come sign the petition anyway, but they haven't. So it's time for us to act.

Thank you, Prop and Apoc, for telling CTRP about the launch.

Glad to see we got mentioned on the Compendium. I feel proud of us now, just like I did when I first saw the petition's site. It's a great feeling.

Yeah Jake, I meant the affiliates page. Whoops.

*happy squeal*

Chrono Symphonic has launched. And they mention us on their front page.

Jake, did you get that promised email from Claado with all the songs included a few days in advance of the launch?

*heads off to download all the tracks*

Yo.

Like Apoc, I have not had much time to do signature-gathering. School rules my life now; it is extremely important that I get good grades this semester, so the unfortunate truth is that things like the CT Remake Petition have fallen by the wayside. I have to focus on studying and homework for now; hopefully I shall be able to have more time for the petition when summer comes.

I've nonetheless made a few attempts to gather sigs at school, but nobody there seems interested, and I actually feel kinda silly telling them about the petition since I know that their answer will probably be, "I couldn't care less." I've had absolutely NO luck getting people to take their own copies of the petition around and gather sigs themselves.

*SIGH*

Gentlemen, we appear to be on our own here.

I'm sure there are other people out there who care about CT as much as we do, and who would be willing to gether petitions themselves; but they don't live near us. They're spread out all over the country, and likely, all over the world. The only way we could possibly communicate with them and get their assistance is through the Internet.

If we don't start advertising aggressively, and SOON, we shall fade into obscurity and be forgotten, yet another pathetic failed petition that led nowhere. I mean this with as much emphasis as I can possibly muster.

I have already started advertising on forums I visit, confidence-shaking-signature-count be damned. I've actually gotten the word out to some people; and I've gotten some positive responses. But I'm not posting in the popular Chrono Trigger forums; I'm bringing up the petition at other videogame-related sites and forums in an attempt to target the less-obvious people. I figured you guys would take care of the more obvious places. I was wrong. (Has anybody even told CTRP that the petition is launched? What about Chrono Compendium's promised mention of us on their front page?)

The signatures will not magically appear if nobody knows about us. Get the PR train running; THEN other people might try collecting signatures instead of leaving us to do all the work.

Symphonic will be released in three days. Just thought I'd mention that.

Man...it's as quiet as a ghost town around here.

LOL, Prop. I know we're trying to make the article shorter. You can go ahead and leave all the quotes out if you want. I just put the extra ones in because A. It would satisfy Jake and get him to let me use the funny quote, and B. I know that you're going to come along and shorten everything anyway, so it doesn't really matter what I do to the article at this point. I just figured that the quote about Jake getting into Chrono Trigger because he thought Marle was hot is funny enough to get the attention of readers and keep them interested, so I wanted to try having it in the article somehow.

But Jake, that quote is so funny! I insist we use it.

Here, I added some more quotes, switched them around, and slightly modified one of them so they'd fit better with the flow of the article. The paragraph is longer now, but I think you'll agree with me that it's also better.

The “Chrono Trigger Remake Petition Group”, as they call themselves, is headed by an energetic 22-year-old lad named Jacob Kuntzman. “I got into Chrono Trigger because Marle was hot,” he recalls. “I quickly found a new interest, though... Schala. I was your typical Chrono fan after that…[Chrono Trigger] is pretty much what got me started writing, which I've been doing ever since…the numerous endings also had a part to play in driving my creativity and imagination. In that way, Chrono Trigger gave something to me and so now I wanted to give something back.” When a friend of his jokingly proposed that they create a petition for a remake of the game, Jacob took him seriously and soon began the arduous process of gathering support for the endeavor. One phone call later, he had established contact with Square-Enix of America.

By the way, I forgot to mention earlier...Apoc, I wasn't trying to be blunt or critical of your work -- I was just joking. Truth is, I've been writing that version of the article for a while now.

I am SO using that quote.

About Nathan... *suddenly horrified* You mean to tell me that all the errors on the site, like the "Name" thing and the "Privacy Policy", will never get fixed...ever?

You sure his system actually crashed, and he's not making up an excuse? I'm really sorry, but after what Apoc said about lazy programmers, I just can't help but be suspicious.

...By the way, how did he send you an email to tell you about the system crash if he lost his address book and your address?

Groovy, David. Could you please PM me your contact information so I can give it to Claado?

BTW Jake, I meant to tell you earlier...I emailed you fixed versions of all the petitions, including the extra ones for the staff. I think you should create a "Staff Downloads" thread in this forum so we can archive those downloads (and so Michael, Prop and Apoc can download the fixed versions).

EDIT: You know what we should've done? We should've placed a counter on the site that logs how many people have visited it. That would greatly boost the morale of anyone visiting it (if the number is high), and it would tell us how successful we're being at getting the word out about the site. *smacks forehead*

That would greatly boost the morale of anyone visiting it (if the number is high), and it would tell us how successful we're being at getting the word out about the site. *smacks forehead*

Good idea, Mike. I'll do that.

Sure, Prop, you can edit my version of the article. Go ahead, I trust your opinion on such matters.

Hi guys!

Nice article, Apoc. No, really. It’s excellent stuff. Mind if I change everything?

Yoink!

Fans Create Petition to Remake Chrono Trigger
By the A.P. (Associated Players)

Ten years ago, in 1995, a Japanese company named Squaresoft released a video game that helped define the genre of the modern Role-Playing Game. This RPG, named Chrono Trigger, combined a deep storyline, fantastical worlds, developed characters, and fun gameplay to create a perfect storm that hit both sides of the Pacific with the strength of a tsunami. This year marks the tenth anniversary of Chrono Trigger’s release, and in recognition of this fact, a group of dedicated fans have begun a petition urging Squaresoft, now known as Square-Enix, to remake the game for modern consoles.

This petition, unlike so many others which reside on the internet, is not based around an electronic signature system. Those who wish to sign it instead download copies of it from the petition’s official website, print them out, sign them in old-fashioned handwritten format, and mail their copies to a central address from which they shall be forwarded to Square-Enix. It is hoped that this system will carry more weight and credibility than a standard Internet-based petition would.

The “Chrono Trigger Remake Petition Group”, as they call themselves, is headed by an energetic 19 22-year-old lad named Jacob Kuntzman. [Insert facts about when Jake first encountered CT here, and perhaps a quote or two.] When a friend of his jokingly proposed that they create a petition for a remake of the game, Jacob took him seriously and soon began the arduous process of gathering support for the endeavor. One phone call later, he had established contact with Square-Enix of America.

Though the American branch of the company holds no true power over executive decisions such as what games shall be made, they nonetheless promised to transfer any signed petitions that they receive to Square-Enix’s central branch in Japan, where they would receive the proper consideration. It was hinted that a reasonable target would be within the range of 15,000 to 20,000 signatures; however, Jacob is not satisfied with being merely reasonable, and is instead aiming for the lofty goal of 25,000 signatures total.

What do you guys think? Better than Apoc's, or worse? If you guys want to use this version of the article instead, then as you can probably tell, I’ll need info from Jake about his first encounter with CT and why he loves it so much, so I can replace that bracketed text. Also, I guessed at his age since I don't really know how old he is.

Since nobody’s reading the Planning thread anymore, I’m gonna copy the post I made there and paste it here. It contains information you guys need to see.

I've got an update on Claado Shou. Turns out his computer stopped loading yahoo and he had to use a friend's computer to find my email.

His reply contained two very important facts. First, he's given us a hard date for the completion of Chrono Symphonic's music: December 15th, in four days. Given that he'll want anywhere from 2-5 days after that to get everything in order, that puts Symphonic's launch in the range of December 17th, this Saturday, to December 20th, next Tuesday. No doubt as we get nearer to the music completion deadline, the launch date will become even clearer. So, Jake can expect that email from Claado with the Symphonic album at around Thursday.

Second important fact: he has taken to our offer to host the Symphonic site with great enthusiasm. I believe he described it as, "freaking sweet". He said he'll deliver the news to his web designer StarZander immediately. I hope we'll get an answer soon. I'll probably need David's email address or other contact information, BTW, since I'm sure Claado will ask for them soon. So if Jake or David could PM me that info, I'd appreciate it.

I suggest we wait until the Symphonic launch before we do the really major advertising, like the Slashdot article. This deadline has much more weight since it's a collaboration, and the other project's members aren't gonna wait around if our web designer is being lazy. We can really get Nate's butt moving with this.

(And if he shows no signs of life as we near the deadline, I will roast his ass. Because I refuse to let this opportunity slip away.)

Prop: This one. It's the logo I'm putting on the petitions. Compared to the original one, it looks much nicer.

Jake: Fine, the HTML and .DOC versions of the petition will have it while the .PDF versions won't. And I'll tell everyone it's your fault, you slacker.

Use the fixed version of the logo that I posted in the "Request for Apoc" thread. The current logo (which Apoc used in that example) looks ugly in comparison to my byootiful fixed version. I'm currently fixing all the versions of the petition that I've got so they have the fixed logo AND have that 'To Whom It May Concern" buisness Prop mentioned. I'll e-mail 'em all to Jake.

So, we're now officially launched, correct? What should we do first?

Apoc, have you finished the Lavos petition yet? Remember, I asked you to change the coloring to shades of gray...and I'd kinda like to have that petition done before the launch, if you don't mind.
