EideticMemory :
Windows 2000 also is not supported anymore.  It became vulnerable once that occurred.  However, there were not as many threats back then that there are right now.
This is the first time Microsoft has alerted users about an expiring operating system.  And they are pounding, trying everything they can to get people off XP.  It's in such high use, and using outdated defense systems.  Think of it this way, the computers are candy and ice cream, whereas the hackers are the kids.  It will be attacked within minutes of support ending.  Yes, it is scary.  I'm glad to hear you aren't using it.

I just recently upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 about 2 weeks ago and I don't see anything wrong with it.  It's pretty good.

I'm actually in the process of organizing it (when I feel like getting back to it).  The stuff on the right, I took the stuff out of the folders for the picture, but they're home is inside the folders.  I wish I could've had my toolbar on the bottom right showing the extras through the arrow, but it wouldn't.

For listening music with, I choose Spotify.  It's like one of the best things for music.
For ripping music, I only have a couple CD's and just use Windows Media Player.

I have fixed computer when it comes to viruses and stuff like that.  I actually have a Facebook page called Online Security Keeper.  I have a friend on the other side of the country that has 3 computers, and I helped her with them all remotely, along with 7 locally.  She's actually become my remote movie buddy.  I love helping people with computers, especially when it's virus removal or protection.

Yahoo Mail just got hacked a few days ago actually.  I was actually one of the victims.  Source
My personal Gmail was attempted to be hack 1-2 years ago from China.  When I found that out, I added 2-step verification and haven't had any attempts since.
I also had someone on the other side of the country try to hack my Online Security Keeper (Facebook) Gmail account about a few months ago, when it was less than 6 months old.  I added 2-step verification to that one after it happened as well.
So, basically, all of my accounts, were attempted.

Gmail is my favorite, with the Google Drive, and just, everything.  I used Yahoo a few years ago, but was introduced to Gmail for a class in High School, and just fell in love.
Yahoo is not very secure, with 2 hacks in January alone.  I have an old account, and it became victim to a hack last week.  Take a look at my post with the recent history of Yahoo hacks.

Those advertisements of you are a winner, are scam/phishing advertisements.
A good word of advise is to never click on any advertisements, for you are 182 times more likely to get infected with a virus than you are going to naughty and risky websites.  http://goo.gl/IYoToF
I recommend getting AdBlockPlus.  It can help get rid of those advertisements, most advertisements actually.  https://adblockplus.org/

I don't usually go to bed until some between 1:00 AM to 4:00 AM.  I then have to wake up somewhere between 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.  I am addicted to my computer.

Although it's a neat idea, it's just wont work.  BitCoin value has been getting really high, and I don't think the website has that much money to dish out for BitCoin's.
BitCoin's are like virtual money with high value.  It can be gathered by BitCoin Miners, with software and specialized hardware.  BitCoin's are also good to have if you get infected with CryptoLocker Ransomware.  Some retailers online are beginning to accept BitCoin payments, but there isn't many at the moment.  I don't really know much on LiteCoin though.  Here is a couple links.

I've had my Windows 8 laptop for about a year now.
Windows 8 sure has it's ups and downs.  The thing I find best about it is that you can do split screen, so like Skype and Desktop.  It is definitely completely different from any of the other operating systems, that's for sure.

Windows 8

For those still using Windows XP, please be aware of this.  It's about to become a hackers dream in April 2014.  Microsoft will stop providing security patches for both Internet Explorer, and the operating system.  Hackers will reverse engineer the patches on other systems, and see if it would apply to XP as well.  Windows XP users should switch soon.

I use Avast and Malwarebytes.  For those who use Microsoft Security Essentials, I strongly recommend you switch to something else.

Avast is awesome, and available for free.  I have been recommending it to friends and clients.  With some adjustments in the settings, like enabling scheduled scans for both Quick and Full, as well as enabling PUP detection, it does really good.  I also make some other adjustments, but those are key.

Malwarebytes is awesome as well.  There has been many times where a main antivirus failed to detect something, ant MBAM was able to pick up the slack.  MBAM is also one of the best scanners to pick up those pesky PUPs.  No matter what antivirus is being used, MBAM is always good to have, and do a full scan at least once a month.

Microsoft Security Essentials is really bad in protection, according to many test results from antivirus testing companies.  Microsoft themselves actually recommend users to use a third-party antivirus.  Microsoft is very basic, and is actually the weakest antivirus I've seen tested.

Sorry for the long unnecessary reply, force of habit on this topic.
