Personally I don't think the government should have ever been allowed to touch Health Insurance. Everything they touch turns to crap, everything! With that being said there should have been a high risk pool set up through each state to insure people with pre existing conditions. This is the way it is with car insurance, if a company won't insure you to drive then the state steps in to insure you. I also want to say to the ones who want pre existing conditions covered but don't think we should be penalized if we don't have insurance, it's very hard to balance out how much all the pre existing conditions cost an insurance company without having a big pool of healthy people buying insurance to. Also lets discuss pre existing conditions for a minute, I'm all for a pre existing condition that a person is burdened with for no reason other than bad luck and genes, but a pre existing condition you have because years of unhealthy eating or activity? How is that anyone's problem but your own? See what a lot of people don't think about is the cost that goes into treating a lot of these conditions, insurance companies aren't charity's, they're for-profit businesses. So you can't expect them to pay out 2 million dollars to a bunch of hospitals to treat pre existing conditions without making enough money to make a profit. There is things that can be fixed to help our health care system but if the past is any indicator the government shouldn't have complete control over it.
