It's what the game is about! And it did warn you, it is not for the feint of heart.

To be honest, you come to enjoy the eternal grinding once you really get into the game. You also sometimes encounter rare Touhous, like Byakuren, and even shinies, like how I found a shiny Mitori while training. This game is a next level difficulty, with the last gym leader using near or at lvl 100 Touhous. So yeah, this game is for the ones who really enjoy hard challenges. Maybe play it as a Nuzlocke, if you want to step it up.

I also prefer Charmander, since once fully evolved, Charizard is the one that has the highest special attack stat. I've never been too keen on the grass starter and I hardly ever use water types. I've always been choosing the fire type starter until Gen 4 because I mainly focus on special stats. And Charmander is freaking cute.

I have been choosing the fire starter of the first three Gen because they  always have the best set of moves (personal opinion). I was never really fond of water types (though I really like Milotic and Lapras) but I guess Mudkip is alright, having its final evolution immune to grass type. I prefer the fire starters because they normally have high speed and special attack stats. So I guess I'll go with Torchic.

Maybe it's because each gym badge gives you the right to use different hidden moves and the ones that you'll use in this has a different order than the original fire red. Example: the first badge gives you access to the HM flash, so maybe the game doesn't intend you to use it/have it at tthe beginning of the game.

Normally, in any gen 3 games, mew and a few more legendaries won't obey you just after being captured. I think I may know the way to made them obey, I think you need to maximize their friendship in order to properly make them battle. It may not work, but its worth a try.

If you pay attention, the first badge that you get isn't the first one in your list, but I think it's the last one. If I'm correct, you should be missing the first and the sixth badge after the capture of Landorus.

It doesn't say that evolution trades have changed in the description, so I guess you'll need to trade or catch the evolution. Then again, I could be wrong, but you can still try other methods like high friendship or using an evolutionary stone, not certain if those would work, though.
