Everyone knows you die at eighteen. No one knows why. Our scientists gave up on it long ago. Some even say it's a good thing. It reminds you to enjoy, cherish, and take advantage of the time you have. I can't seem to get the "enjoy" part down. I'm sixteen. I'm afraid.

BREAKING NEWS: PRODIGY LEADS NATIONS TO PROSPERITY
D.C. - Addressing a conference of reporters, Adi Rosswell says he hopes to revive the long gone "Nineteen Project". At only five years old, President Rosswell is the youngest person in history to take the office, the average age being a much older thirteen. After sweeping reforms across the United States, Rosswell has nearly eliminated poverty, and he has set his sights even higher.
"The only reason we haven't found a cure is because we stopped looking for one. I believe I'll meet a nineteen-year old in my lifetime," said the president to reporters this Wednesday.

It's only a week away, the day I was born. The day I turn eighteen. I never told Alysse how I feel. Everyone else has had meaningful relationships, a family... While I slaved away at a desk job. I wish I could get those years all back.

...

It's tomorrow.

...

I just turned eighteen. I think. Maybe it's just off a few seconds. I'm surrounded by friends. I guess it wouldn't be so bad to pass this way. Alysse is here, she's smiling at me. I still can't work up the confidence to tell her.

...

I'm alive. My friends are as confused as I am. How am I alive? I'm still not sure if the date was just wrong. If it wasn't, what does that mean for me? What does that mean for everyone else?
-from Andrew's notebook

UNCONFIRMED REPORTS OF ADULT, ALIVE
WASHINGTON - Witnesses say Andrew Cullingham is alive and perfectly healthy. At eighteen, he would be the first adult since 2120 to live past their eighteenth birthday. President Rosswell called the man, "The miracle our country needs."
Cullingham could not be reached for comment.

Well, Eidetic, Zuko is still alive, although he's not really shown in tLoK. You're probably right in thinking he was referring to Iroh, though, since their voices are the same.
To answer Berserk, I'd go with old age. Although she could have been assassinated, seeing as she was the chief of police, and remnants of Ozai loyalist groups still exist.

"Absolute power absolutely corrupts." I'm far from a historian or psychologist but I generally believe that. Perhaps there's a person, one in a billion, who could handle it, but history has shown otherwise.
Obviously, too much freedom (correct me if I'm wrong, but you could call it anarchy) leads to just as bad consequences.

I'm the same as you on that, I do it just for the Viz. I don't really need the "spellcheck" since my grammar is decent.

Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Princess Mononoke
Most of this list would be rated as mature, so don't say I didn't warn you.

As someone who's not religious, I'd have to say yes. There's simply too much that science can't (and possibly won't ever) answer.

5 years after loss of contact with The Enterprising Entrepreneur

"She was a real beauty. Slender but curvy. Every man (and woman) on the Earth couldn't help but notice her from a distance."
"Her full name was The Enterprising Entrepreneur. Clocking in at a neat 10,000 kilometers long, the Entrepreneur was the pride of the human race, and the largest object ever built. The name had started off as a joke, but eventually it stuck. Two million people were set for living on her."

"That was five years ago. We lost contact three years ago. There are two million people in deep space with no contact to Earth."
"What can we do about it?"
"At the moment, pray, or cross your fingers real tight."

5 minutes before loss of contact with The Enterprising Entrepreneur

"Thiiis is the captain speaking. All systems are nominal." He spoke like a radio host, in rapid fashion. "Warp drive, check. Shields, check. Communications- well, it seems we have a malfunction in communications. Sending teams on it immediately."
"Captain Ali, please repeat yourself. Your connection is breaking up." The screen in front of the captain showed a now-concerned face. The Earth military general, light years away, didn't like being out of contact with the treasure of the human race.
"I said our communications have a slight malfunction. Nothing serious. I'm proceeding with the briefing. We have not yet found any habitable worlds. Aphrodite appeared a possibility, but we were only able to harvest a few years worth of resources from it."
A few signal notes sounded and the captain appeared distressed.
"What is it, captain?"
"Oh I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Let me get a second reading on it... well... sir, we may have a problem."
"Captain, let me reiterate what you've been told hundreds of times. You cannot, under any circumstance, allow the Enterprise to come to harm."
"I apologize, sir. All hands are working on the problems now. The warp drive appears- it appears to be firing up."
"What do you mean, firing up?! Transmit coordinates of the jump immediately, captain!" The general was frantic now.
"Yes, sir, I'm sending them over- communications rapidly lowering, sir! We can't keep contac-"
"Captain! Captain Ali! Report your status!" It was too late, the connection was lost.

Indeterminate time after loss of contact with The Enterprising Entrepreneur

"Beautiful act there, sir!" The first mate chuckled with the captain. "Had me believing the ship was actually breaking down there for a moment."
Captain Ali set a boyish grin upon the vast expanse of space in his view from the deck. "Remind me never to let anyone call this the Enterprise ever again."
Ali had The Entrepreneur all to himself, and he was now boldly going where no pirate had gone before.
