dagedude : Don't worry about it, just respond when you can. Projects like the one you are working on take time. I know this, haha. I'm just trying to help a fellow game developer. I like what you have going for you so far. Do you have a game that I could reference to to see how you want the game to look? Or sneak preview assets? I'm quite intrigued. Davideo7: Yeah, in my opinion, Black Ops 2 is the best Call of Duty they've made. All of my gripes and complaints of the older Call of Duties are gone. Now of course there are new ones, but this game is very solid. The online play is more?competitive?as well, over the years CoD players have been getting better and I also think that gamers overall are getting better due to the fact that video games have been around longer and the generations that have been coming up have always had them there. I agree with you on true gamers needing to keep an open mind. The 1 system gamer, or even worse, the 1 system and 1 type of game or even 1 game only gamers, definitely are not gamers. Light Knight: Haha, yeah. You were here a few months before me, but considering how many people were on the board at that time. It's pretty much the same time haha. Good seeing you. Juliet: Hey Juliet! I'm glad to see you too! I was just asking David in a PM about you like yesterday. I'm glad to see you come back at the same time I am. That's awesome that you are pursuing programming, it's a very high commodity. It can add a few 0's to your salary in the workplace. And yeah, I'm into game design. It's getting tougher because my school doesn't focus on one area of art in video games like 3D or 2D art or just game programming. It teaches you about the industry, all the legalities and the hard part is that it touches bases on every way possible to make a game. Drawing basics, 2D, 3D, Animation for both 2D and 3D, Programming (AS3, HTML, CSS, Java, Javascr What programming are you learning? Where are you learning it? Why are you learning program? What are you goals? It's just good to hear from you Juliet. Hope everything is going well and I hope you stop by here more often like I'm trying to do. ![]() I agree with you on true gamers needing to keep an open mind. Well the big question you have to ask yourself when making a game is, "what makes your game unique/better than other similar games?" Something like a game mechanic that makes it fun and unique. I feel that in a Survival Horror game a lack of being able to fight back gives it the horror feel. Now, for the survival feel, I think that giving useful resources a durability is a pretty strong factor to consider. There should definitely be a pretty fun combat system to keep your audience entertained and interactive with everything they do in this world. I don't have much more time right now to break anything else down, but I'll respond to more of your feedback of what I just explained. No worries man. As much as I didn't know that about your internet, I understand. Take your time. The entire process of you bettering your skills isn't a quick one. In the meantime, I have other things I need to do on my end for school. Just hit me up when you are able to move forward. |

I love this thread. Definitely a throwback, I was 12 when Vizzed came to be. I join this site back on 3/17/05. I recently had my 8 year anniversary. I was 14 when I found this site looking for RPG Maker 95/2000. Became a member, posted to receive the download from David, but then liked the whole talking about video games and the leveling system. I look at my oldest posts and wow....I was so immature. I can read my maturity in my posts over the years. It's pretty ridiculously awesome. Haha. I'm glad this site is still going and is stronger than ever! I remember the slow times which makes me appreciate how far this site has come. David has done a great job. I don't see this site going down anytime soon. Let's keep it goin'! I'm glad this site is still going and is stronger than ever! Ah, I see. Yeah I'm sure if Microsoft doesn't want to get behind in the next Gen console phase, they are going to have to announce it and have it at E3. I know what you mean! It is the very moment throughout the year that shows where the industry is headed and exclusive looks at information of projects coming out soon. It's so amazing and inspiring, I really hope you are able to go someday. It's considered an "exclusive event" (closed to the public) but if you pay somewhere around $1000, you can get in. Pretty crazy price. If there's a year to make your money count, it's this one with the consoles being there. I'm excited to be going, that is if I am able to scrounge up the funds. ![]() Alright, I'll accept the request and maybe sometime we can game it up on Halo 4. I mean, I've been playing a ton of Call of Duty: Black Ops II lately due to the fact that there is going to be a 3v3 tournament held at my school. I plan on entering with my girlfriend and another buddy of mine. Hopefully we win. Go big or go home, ya' know? I'm glad you're a gamer that plays a lot of different games. There are "gamers" out there that claim to be a gamer but they only like one type of game. My opinion is, if you are a gamer, you play all kinds of games no matter the genre. Going back to Halo 4 though, I'd like to game with you sometime. Most likely after this upcoming tournament for me. Thanks for the compliment on my layout, it was fun to mess around with and use my most epic of pictures. ![]() I know what you mean! Yeah, it was a lot of fun! I was able to get admission for free since I am a student in Game. I'm going to go to this one this year as well because the PS4 will be there! I can't recall if the Xbox720 will be there, has that been announced? That's really awesome that you're really into E3. Most people I talk to don't know about it and if they do, they don't follow it, haha. So you understand my excitement! Ah, I see. So you do have an Xbox. Alright, I'll try and add you asap. my GamerTag is "Mauklin". Do you play Black-ops or Halo 4? I guess the question I should be asking is, what games do you play on your consoles? Thanks for the link, I actually was able to figure it out. I was just unsure on how to format my html due to the fact that I learned it in a different structured way. So I bought a layout and looked at its code. Pretty easy now that I see how it's formatted. That is how I fixed this one up. ![]() Ah, I see. So you do have an Xbox. kanoakamori : That's awesome, I love the Final Fantasy series as well as Chrono Trigger. I would suggest trying out Phantasy Star 4. It's an awesome RPG, also try the Shining Force games. Other RPG's you should try are Sailor Moon RPG and Magic Knight Rayearth, both are based off of anime's. Here's a link:
Anime-RPG's The main website is full of great RPG's as well that I haven't even played, I suggest checking them out as well. Here's a link for this site as well: Fantasy RPG's Better yet, this site even has some of these games. Here are some links to some of these games: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon - Another Story Magic Knight Rayearth Hopefully these interest you enough to check them out. I've beaten the main two that I'm referring to you, they are amazing. If you play them. I really hope you enjoy them. ![]() Anime-RPG's The main website is full of great RPG's as well that I haven't even played, I suggest checking them out as well. I see, well that piece of information is crucial in order for me to find a more specific information that can help you out.
For starters I would suggest removing 2.6.11 and move onto 2.8. I say this due to the fact that later versions can in fact change how things are laid out and also have better, more refined ways to using the program. I have a link for the 2.8 download. GIMP 2.8 Download It will have a timer in starting the download or you can click on the link at the top to start it right away. I also want to add that this is for windows, if you do not have windows let me know and I'll get you a fresh link. Just be sure get the newest version, then these tutorials will be very beneficial to your learning. I also noticed you stopped by the Neutype Fanpage, that's awesome. Like I said on the page, the person who replied to you is the same person who helped me out with the tutorials I gave you earlier. She's the bomb, haha. But also like I said on the site, if the tutorials aren't clicking for you I can take a look at the program myself and learn it a little bit and get together with you on showing you how it works. Feel free to let me know if the tutorials aren't quite clicking for you. ![]() For starters I would suggest removing 2.6.11 and move onto 2.8. My favorite thing about vizzed is the community of members on the board. Most everyone is friendly as well as helpful. Coming in real close is the RGR. It wasn't here when I first became a member on the vizzed, making it the second favorite thing of mine. |

Alright, well what is it that you want to know? I'm going to get a hold of it and mess with it. It should be similar to programs I have used so I should be able to help you out. I'm a tutor at my school as well so I do this all the time where they present something to me I don't know anything about, they explain what they want to do and I figure it out on the fly and teach them it, lol. So I'll see what I can do man. My next school term started today, so please give me a little bit of time. I'll try and get back to you as soon as possible. ![]() EDIT: So, I'm a part of a group at my school known as NEUTYPE. It is made up of the best and most dedicated students at my school and we get together and help one another better ourselves in whatever skills we wish to master. We also have a Facebook fanpage that I would graciously ask anyone to subscribe to. The page is: Neutype Gamers Association There is another page that is member exclusive that I post in for information that you seek and I immediately received two links for tutorials. Sorry if they are links you've found already. If they are, let me know and I will continue to find more material for you. Yeah I'll definitely try and put more of my work up, perhaps I should make a thread of my works.
I'll have a portfolio website made soon. I already have one made I just need to figure out how to have it all stored on a server for others to check it out. That would be cool. I wouldn't mind doin' a little bit of work for you if you needed it. Just let me know The 3D program I use is 3DS Max. It's a fairly fun program. It takes a little bit to get use to, but when you do get use to it, it's a lot of fun. I still have a modeling 2 class to take then even an advanced modeling class as well. In modeling 2 I will be introduced to a program called Mudbox. Its similar to Zbrush but free. Haha, yeah. I see you pop on here and there. We haven't gamed together yet though haha. My Halo 4 layout is of me and my girlfriend when we went to E3 last year. Giant posters of games everywhere. On a side note, I still want to code a custom layout but I can't seem to find where to make it from scratch. Is there a thread explaining how to make one from scratch? Just curious. But anyway, since my girlfriend moved in with me, now I have an Xbox360 so I play on there as well. Do you have an Xbox360? I'll have a portfolio website made soon. What level would you put yourself at in your knowledge in this program? Are you in need of basic training on learning the user interface (UI)?
I personally haven't used the program but I can take a look into it. I could probably also find some tutorials on the program that would benefit you. I just need to know your level of knowledge in this program and even if you have knowledge in programs of the similar likeness. I personally haven't used the program but I can take a look into it. I see, well that's interesting. I might have to look into those programs.
I feel that a leveling system is only necessary if you are wanting to give the player's character another game play goal of leveling skills to benefit them as the story progresses forward. If that isn't the case and it just depends on gather resources to create it, then possibly I skill learning system, finding "blue-prints" to learn how to make items and whatnot. Following on the idea of the scavenging system, things needing to be found in a chaotic world should be scarce. The more rare the ingredients to make an item, the more beneficial the item for game play. And yes, like what thenumberone said, making them perishable items helps with the survival game aspect. Also, a note to ask about, are you going to have wear and tear on your items when used? I would not mind taking a look at your game. I, myself, am in a school for games. My program is "Game Production", so I would love to give you feedback. Contact me via private message on here or even contact me through the email in my bio on this site indicating that you are from Vizzed and what not. Its always nice to see someone as passionate as I am in video games that they decide to go to school for it! |

I can kind of see where you are with this game. It is hard to have a back story on how zombies are created without a medical situation. But you could really play on the idea that it is the work of aliens that, in a sense, created zombies. Considering that aliens are very technologically advanced, it would probably point in the direction of medical experiments on humans (abductions). At the same time, they are aliens, you can really make up whatever you want that seems out of this world that Aliens have that alter humans in a zombie-like way. I'm not sure of any ideas of that sort right now, but the basic concept that I explained can hopefully get you or anyone working with you, or even, someone on this board going.
I'm just really curious in what programs you and your team are using to complete this project. Right now it seems you are still in the stage of creating a game design document (GDD). I like your basic idea of what you want, it ultimately comes down to what you and your team are able to do and within what time frame. This is all I have for you right now because my brain is kinda shot from a long day, but I can probably give you more and better feedback later. Hope everything works out for the best! Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't mind for sure. This is why I enjoy being a part of this community because of the knowledgeable and helpful members that are on this message board. I know I'm not active as much as I use to be years back, but I like to stop in and try to be active and be a positive force on Vizzed Board.
So yeah, hit me up with whatever questions and I'll try to get back to you asap with the best information possible. ![]() So yeah, hit me up with whatever questions and I'll try to get back to you asap with the best information possible. ![]() |
