Well, you may not know if you haven't played Final Fantasy games before, but my profile name is that of the main villain in Final Fantasy VI.  This is a super Nintendo release from 1994.  It's my favorite of the series.  Awesome music, storyline and characters (most playable characters of any of the games...14!)  I also really loved Final Fantasy VII, which was a Sony PlayStation release.  These two would be perfect for someone looking for an introduction to the series.  The other games have their charm too, but these really grab the players and bring them in to a new world.  Its really an awesome franchise if you have the time and patience to play a long game with side quests and leveling characters up.  There is plenty to do, lots of elusive items, spells, skills, games and prizes, etc.  I would think that if you give either of these a chance, you'll be hooked.  Do them chronologically: Final Fantasy VI and THEN Final Fantasy VII!  Also, if you want to play Final Fantasy VII, you'll need the Play Station item from the site store, which is 50,000 Viz.  If you don't have that, I would definitely suggest starting with FF6.  I was just able to buy the PS1 item today-so I'll finally be able to revisit FF7! Yay!

fireking1058: Yeah, I've never had to memorize anything except for the full names when given the symbol.  That's easy enough, the full name is the Greek or Latin word for the element ie: Lead (Pb) is Plumbium, Iron (Fe) is Ferris, etc.  If you can remember their electron configuration, you can roughly estimate their atomic number, and for some of them, doubling that gives the approximate atomic mass (but these are not very reliable.)  OR...you could memorize which period and group they are in and assign those values that way.  I would just say, it seems the most practical to use flashcards and memorize those values for each of the 30.  I'm sure some of them will be very easy, like Carbon and Oxygen.  They are used a LOT, so its pretty easy to remember C....12.011g/mol is #6 and Oxygen....15.999g/mol is #8.  My advice would be to set aside the ones you know and practice those lightly, and really concentrate on those you're not as familiar with.  If you ever have questions about how to work with these, please feel free to post.  There's a lot to chemistry when working with reactions, bonding, Lewis dot structures, etc.

mlb789 : Awesome work mlb789, that's exactly what I got when I worked it out.  I really appreciate the explanation of the steps too.

OK, next up:  Using the Quadratic Formula x=[-b(+ or -) sqrt(b^2 - 4ac)]/2a  to solve for x in....y=3x^2 + 4x + 5

You're totally right, I had no idea.  I bet the person below doesn't know that lead (Pb) is a lubricant.

megamanmaniac: Yeah, that's completely correct.  Awesome mlb789 and megamanmaniac.  Thanks for the responses!  I've been trying to get a scholastic discussion going on here, but people don't seem too interested so far.  Perhaps I should have structured this more like a trivia game and asked more general questions, and then asked respondents to post the next.

Hmmmm....OK, I'll try another one.  What is the
average and standard deviation of this set: 9,10,10,11,11,12,13,13 ?

Anyone out there know how to solve this?  Feel free to Google or whatever you need to do, and add your own trivia style problem for us to solve.  OR, if you have any problems you're stuck on, please post them here.

OK....I gave it a couple weeks, and still nothing.  I'm just gonna try to let someone see this on the new posts in case there's a smarty pants out there.  I saw someone in the school forum ask if anyone needed any help in Chemistry.  So....

What is the electron configuration of Zinc (Zn)?

Hmmm...I like Ska more than Reggae, but there are certainly a lot of gems to choose from.  I'm going to have to say...

Jimmy Cliff "The Harder They Come" and "You Can Get it if You Really Want."  This guy is awesome.  These are both featured in a movie called The Harder They Come along with some other things I have listed here.  If you like Reggae, check out this movie-you will be in love.  Also, if you're into the whole Rastafarian thing, check out the movie Rockers.  It's not as rich musically, but still a cool movie if you like that whole Rasta thing.

Toots & the Maytals "Pressure Drop" and "54-46 (Was My Number)" (technically they're considered Ska, but really the rhythm is a lot more Reggae with these songs in my opinion.)

Haha, I've got to include
Inner Circle "Bad Boys."  Pretty cliché, I know, but come on...it's still an awesome song.

Junior Murvin "Police and Thieves" (more popularly done by the Clash-that's how I learned about it.)

Desmond Dekker "Shanty Town" and "Israelites"  I love these songs!  They'll get stuck in your head if you give them a listen.

the Clash "Guns of Brixton."  Kind of a dub style dance hall kind of thing, and probably the most Reggae thing the Clash did that I can think of off the top of my head.  I had to include the Clash on here, one of my favorite bands.

You know what really grinds my gears??

When you're discussing things like politics, philosophy, religion, ethics, etc. with someone who approaches the conversation as an aggressive attempt to sway your opinion-or people who speak like they're arguing with you even if you agree with them.  (Really, when people talk AT you rather than WITH you...conversations require listening too.)

Also, when singers use fake accents for songs or genres. (ie: Matisyahu)

When people misuse homonyms-especially when commenting on how someone else is stupid.  (ie: there, their, they're)

And people who use terms like "irregardless," "a whole 'nother," "these ones," (wah wah wah...just throwing another Family Guy reference in there.)

Oh....and wet socks too!  Grrrrr!  I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE that!  (<-- a little Final Fantasy VI reference for those of you who don't get why Kefka (me) would use the word "HATE" so many times.)

When I discovered that the PS1 item was 50,000 Viz about a month ago, I only had about 8,000 Viz.  Since then, I have been pretty active with posts and threads and have worked up to over the halfway mark.  But alas, I am still short 22,219 Viz.  Can anyone out there help me out with their excess viz?? If so, I would really appreciate it.

I chose "other" because just saying "rock" really doesn't  describe what I listen to.  Of course I listen to rock from the classics to some of what is coming out today.  Then there are rock-related genres that are distinctly different enough to earn separate mention-punk, new wave, ska, reggae, etc.  I like some old school melodic metal, but not enough to say I' an actual metal listener.  I also listen to classic country, folk and bluegrass.  Never have been a big hip-hop or rap listener but there are some guilty pleasures fro my childhood that I can tolerate hearing occasionally.

Anyways, I'll make a list of some I can think of off the top of my head:

Elvis, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Beach Boys, the Who, the Ventures, Duane Eddy, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, Charlie Pride, the Clash, the Jam, Buzzcocks, Misfits, Bad Religion, Rancid, Descendants, Dead Boys, Iggy Pop & the Stooges, the Replacements, Oasis, Blur, Supergrass, Muse, Radiohead, the Cure, Depeche Mode, the Smiths/Morrissey, the Specials, Madness, Bad Manners, the Slackers, Aggrolites, Toots & the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff....I could keep going on, but I doubt most of you are still reading this and I'm not trying to think really hard about more music that I like.  If you know who these people are, you've got a good idea about what I like.

OK...I don't think this has been done before, but I'll be honest, I did NOT read through every thread ever made on the site.  The rules are simple, type the definition of the word posted last and post a new one.  You can Google it, look it up in a dictionary, just know it, etc.  Any words welcome that fit these criteria:

1)It is a word in the English language
2)It is appropriate to post on Vizzed (no profanity, vulgarity, blasphemy...just not offensive, OK?)
3)Please try to post original words.  I don't expect everyone to read every word if this thread gets really long, but try to be original.  There are lots of words out there, let's teach and learn some new ones.

To start things off...."Temerity."

Whew!  That was pretty long to set up.  OK, pretty self explanatory.  Who was the worst U.S. President in history and why??  Any interesting facts or history to discuss about any presidents even if they weren't the one you voted worst?  Maybe you have a favorite president for a particular reason??  Well, what say you Vizzed community?

Awesome!  I had no idea there was going to be a spin-off.  I was kinda sad that Breaking Bad had to come to an end, but in my opinion, they ended it at exactly the right time.  They didn't try to keep beating a dead horse, writers coming up with dumber and dumber story lines, etc.  The story was told, done tastefully and when it was over it was over.

It's cool they decided to do a prequel centered around my favorite character too!  Haha, he had some awesome lines in the series-I hope to hear more and also get a glimpse into his back story with Gustavo and Mike.  After I read this, I watched a couple trailers and interviews on youtube and hope that Walter and Jesse make an appearance or two also, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks for the heads up that the show is premiering.  Good thread!
