My first console was SNES, which I remember getting on Christmas. I forget exactly what year that was, but I do remember it coming with Super Mario World, and I it was amazing.
On an unrelated note, I also remember my mom accidentally tripping over my controller wire and nearly breaking the system. As a child, I think I might have perceived this as a "near death" experience.

The first post matches my sentiments exactly! And I think the general posts about escort missions captured my runner up. I'll add one I don't think I've seen in the prior posts.

1. Navi (Zelda: OoT)
2. Natalya (Goldeneye 007: N64; all escort missions)

3. Baby Mario (Super Mario World 2)
Remember the sound of his crying you hear every time you get hit? No wonder Yoshi was busy eating fuzzies!

Glad to see somebody else put a Magus (Chrono Trigger) quote here. Allow me to add another I really liked by him.

Magus "If history is to change, let it change. If the world is to be destroyed, so be it. If my fate is to die, I must simply laugh."

I also can't resist throwing in some lines from Mischief Makers.

Lunar "Through fire, justice is served!"
Taurus "A hero, with shining armor is called!"
Merco "To punish evil forces, I have been charged!"

The last game I beat was Front Mission for SNES. It was my first playthrough and I loved that game!
I look forward to starting Breath of Fire 2 in the near future as I make my way through various RPGs.

I've been playing League on/off for the past 2 years. This past season, I started playing ranked games and ended up in Silver II just before it ended. I look forward to trying my luck again next season. My favorite role is support, and top is very fun. I tend to use the same 3-4 heroes for each role. Feel free to add me for a game: G789 (same name as here).

Tempted to side with Kefka, but I'm picking Gilgamesh!

His fight music, his humorous dialogue, and the very last battle that he shows up in.
I have a soft spot for FFV.

The biggest one for me is the Sandlot. It brings back memories now because my friends and I used to play baseball (but this movie is very enjoyable even if you don't like baseball or sports).
Stand by Me is also up there.

I'd go with Joyful Simpleton. Being a worried anything causes stress, which makes it easier to get sick, and decreases the quality of life overall. While being a simpleton may not seem the best way for progress, it does seem like the healthier option.

I used to play guitar and piano. The best times were just hanging out with friends and jamming; we were often surprised with the things we came up with. I also wrote a few songs- if only I wrote more back then, before continuing school/work.
As you get older, it seems you trade time for wisdom.

I have to go with Majora's Mask on here. It's such a difficult choice given how amazing OoT is.

Majora's Mask has more depth to its characters. Even though it's less about Link, and not at all about Zelda, you learn the back story to so many other characters, which makes the game that much more interesting. You also can affect much of the dialogue of those NPCs based on whether or not you followed through on helping them in their particular side quest.
I enjoyed the mask system, and thought that brought more variation to the dungeons as it forces you to use the abilities of each transformation. Overall, I think this game has a more mature theme than OoT given the nature of the 3 days time limit.

Ooh Forte, I do love the fact that he can dash.

My favorite character has to be Geno from Super Mario RPG; Geno Whirl anyone?

I bet the next person can beat Maximum Carnage without using any continues!

Koopa Troopa from Super Mario Kart.
Wario from Mario Kart 64.
Yoshi from Mario Kart Super Circuit.
Koopa Kid/Baby Luigi from Double Dash.
Dry Bones from Mario Kart Wii.

Who doesn't love a skeleton who can collapse and reassemble?

I don't know why, but I absolutely love the Dark World theme from Link to the Past.
A close runner up is Midna's Lament (or Desperation?) from Twilight Princess.
In essence, I could just listen to the soundtrack for any one of them. Also, props to the guy who pointed out the forest temple music.

My first horror movie was Chucky. I was just a little kid when that came out, but that doll terrified me! Even worse, I remember there being a poster for the movie displayed somewhere near where I used to live. I've definitely cried at least once having to endure that.
Interestingly enough, horror movies are typically among my favorite.

For me, Bloody Mary from Terranigma was just a nightmare. She has a shield that circles around her and damages you, plus I might have been under leveled so my attacks were barely doing any damage.

I totally agree with Tabuu from Smash Bros. Brawl. I remember having to start over and over again when doing the boss battle event on very hard mode (interestingly enough, I got through that with Yoshi). And I like the mention of Mortal Kombat. Motaro, with his auto-reflect, teleport, and that insane grab that takes away ~40% health!

Terranigma is an action RPG released on SNES towards the end of that system's era. Unfortunately, this game never made it to America (I've only played this on ROM). The game was made by Quintet, the same group that made Illusion of Gaia so you know what to expect if you've ever played that game, or even other action RPGs.

In terms of game play, it's fairly easy to pick up. The controls are not difficult, and I think the game adequately instructs you how to go about learning to play (plus, just experiment in the first level). The difficulty can be fairly tough at times, particularly on certain boss battles, but I wouldn't describe it as frustratingly hard; it's certainly not insurmountable (some may argue there's one exception).

The soundtrack to Terranigma is simply amazing. When you first step out of the village, the overworld (or underworld) theme gave me goose bumps. The music continues to get better in most of the subsequent levels. And some of the most memorable themes are of the other characters, which always seem to elicit the emotion they're intended to evoke.

What I love most about this game, by far, is the story. The game starts out with the usual JRPG story of a hero having to leave his village and explore for one reason or another (by the way, this protagonist has dialogue). As you progress through the game, you'll come across some pretty mature themes, such as life & death, and the concept of God as your character is beset with a great task to fulfill. There are even some references to historical figures, which I thought was pretty fun.

I would like to add that Terranigma has an interesting split, with one half the game being more about dungeon exploration game play, and the other half containing more story-related material. Keep in mind, both elements are ubiquitous throughout, just in different ratios. Both parts combine to tell an amazing story, with great game play, fueled by a wonderful soundtrack. Overall, I strongly recommend this game to everybody, and would make this game essential for any RPG/action RPG fan.

Great review. I absolutely love Ocarina of Time, but I'm often torn between this and Majora's Mask. I figure you played that one? If not, definitely get on it one of these days.

What really grabs me from Majora's Mask is the fact that so many other characters have their own stories that you must follow, some of them really deep and heart wrenching. The music goes along so well with the game (much like in most Zelda games). The creepy/scary factor is greater than in Ocarina, from looking at the moon as it nears you, to the village of the dead, to the moon itself (trying to avoid saying too much about the last one).

There's an interesting theory on this game in that it represents the 5 stages of grief; read that off of Cracked. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to reference using links. I think the Game Theory youtube series has a thing on this game, as well.

In your defense of Ocarina of Time, it has one thing Majora's Mask doesn't... the Gerudo Valley theme!
