My suggestion would be first to update Java (it seems to help with nit-noid things) next would be to set internet explorer on fire. Its just a headache waiting to happen, and is not really user friendly anymore.

I would suggest Chrome, lightweight and fast (I timed it, took about 2 seconds to search through this site, while IE often took 15 or more seconds to move from page to page) however FireFox is a good alternative as well.

Beyond this? There might be ONE thing you can do, weird as it might sound. Go to your control panel in windows and to the device manager, find your keyboard, disable it and re-enable it. Its helped with occasional issues I've had from time to time. Also hitting ctrl+alt+del and launching task manager and closing seems to help too.. (Windows seven can be weird sometimes.)

Hope some of this helps!

First make sure your system is powerful enough to actually run the game. Emulating can take a great deal of power, especially for N64 games, because its not just running the game software, but the firm ware as well.

Beyond this, check your settings, and the FAQ pages about the game, and the N64, there are known issues and solutions there from more experienced users then I.

I remember playing this years ago. The ending was a little disappointing, I expected, like pokemon, to be able to keep playing and look for other things to do, however no such luck. Still a great game to play considering it was only a couple rather small Megs of memory for the game.

I still remember finding the gold golems... eaaaaasy money.

~Pikachi~ :

Its strange, I gave it awhile and seemed to work (didn't do anything else new) and so I played some more Mega Man X and some Mario RPG. Later, it refused to load again, I tried other games but the same deal.

However about half a hour later, it was all fine and hunky dorie again... does anyone else have this issue? Is it just something with Chrome? I guess it's not a big deal, but kinda annoying especially when I'm trying to do play through videos XD

Personal thoughts and feelings:

This takes me back a number of years (God I hate being old) I played it first on a emulator, same game, hacked to English, and later played it for the DS which was the same game, just prettier and offered a second campaign as well as extras to play with at the end (Like the uber battle mech boss that didn't even fit on the screen)

But when I played it and saw it was a strategy RPG I was braced for the worst, I've played several turn based RPGs like this, and they were often convoluted, complicated and the story was usually very very weak. (princess is kidnapped, or darkness is coming if we don't win etc etc) and no offense to people who love the genre, it just got old FAST for me. However I was surprised, pleasantly surprised I was getting sucked into the game. The story (while I admit a LITTLE cliche' was well done.)involved the main character (you) starting a mission with the military, whom have some control over the island Huffman, however the mission you're sent on is a setup, rigged by the OCU militants, and conspirators to start a full fledged war, which is what they got, though in the process of the attack you loose your fiance in the battle (Against a mech you will learn to really really hate)

From there you are hired on, as a Mercenary after you were discharged formally. The mission? Help the army get back and end the war, but most importantly, find the jerk who killed your fiance. I admit I had alot of fun with this game, and I'm sure you will too! Give it a true, and come on, its made by Square soft? How can you go wrong?

The real review:

Graphics: 9
The graphics of the game are presented largely in isometric view, and they don't disappoint either. The attention to detail phenomenal. From the explosions, to the sparks, even cartridges ejecting from guns to clink to the ground. And you are able to even customize and color your mech (and this is a SNES game!) With dozens if not hundreds of different parts for the body, legs and arms, as well as weapons, shoulder weapons and special weapons galore. Each with its own traits and abilities (Make sure you have your HIT% high or you won't hit the broad side of the barn and it won't matter if you have the best weapon ever in the game) The backgrounds and playing fields are also very detailed, between missions you can go to cities that have hangars full of mechs inside, and the shop has mech pieces in great detail everywhere, some you'll even recognize from using. So for the graphics, there is nothing to disappoint here.

However I did give it a 9 because there are a few graphical glitches now and then (though small) and this seemed to be a early use of the 'If its real, its brown' rule used in video games (before they started using the 'Bloom makes everything better' rule.)

Sound: 7

Okay, the sound for the game is good. Not great but it is good. The sound effects are pitch perfect for a game like this, rockets, explosions and so forth and that goes strong. However the music and so forth is... lack luster. It seems to have only a couple different songs, even for bosses used for the whole game so they aren't really memorable. So the sound for the game is solid, but not fantastic. Which is strange considering Square's dedication to making everything they touch sound beautiful.

Addictiveness: 9
Okay, so if I used the Tempest body, with the Gust legs I can support two heavy weapons and a L Tonfa...

That is my train of thought when I go to the setup screen, which for some it might prove confusing, but is actually relativity simple, anyone who plays RPGs will get into it fairly easily, but this is the big draw for me, customizing my mechs to perfection to each pilot. You see every pilot has their own strengths with certain weapons. Like from the start the main character is great with short range machine guns (however as you level up and use different weapons you can get better with others) While others are better with long range missiles, grenade launchers or get up and close with heavy hitting knuckles or tonfa weapons.

Piece of advice for you if you play: GET A SHIELD AS SOON AS YOU CAN FOR EVERYONE! They are shoulder mounted and nine times out of ten you don't need two missile weapons (which mount on shoulders) unless you have a long range fighter, otherwise, give em a shield, it will save you from the cheap one shot lucky kills the enemy gets from time to time with powerful missile barrages.

And if you ever want to see how your mech works out against enemies without going through a mission, take em to the coliseum to test their strengths and weaknesses, and earn some EXP and cash on the side.

By the way, get to level 5 as fast you can, before mission 5 if you can, you'll thank me later.

Story: 8

Anyone here ever seen/read any military conflict movies/books? Then the general scenario will be fairly familiar. Your crew gets used as chumps to start a conflict by the OCU against the UN. Justifying a war for expansion on HuffMan island. I won't spoil the story too much more then that, other then your main characters fiance gets killed during the mission, and revenge becomes the objective for you. So go stomp on them. It is still well written (and well translated) and you actually start to care for the characters under your control through the game.

Depth: 10
This is where the game passes with flying colors. From the tactical strategy you can use against your enemy, outfitting your mechs, fighting in coliseum bouts, earning secrets, destroying mechs, saving people and unlocking the story, Square did what it did best and made it freaking awesome! You will not regret playing this game.

Difficulty: 9
I gave the game a nine because of several differnt factors. First, past mission five things get rough, and keeping your entire crew alive and in decent shape becomes a challenge, you are almost always outnumbered and out gunned. And one tactic that worked in one map, won't work in them all. So make sure you think ahead and plan your moves. Even with this in mind, it can be very hard, especially near end game where despite the best armor, one lucky shot can take you down for good, or destroy your weapon. Piece of advice, go against the bigger, meaner mechs first with two, or more of your units, and it will make things easier. And take out missile launching mechs fast, they have the biggest chance to one hit kill you.

Over all: 8.6
So for the final word, I have to say this was a great ride of a game. Great story, it challenged me, it was fun and I loved being able to make colorful mechs stomp around and blow stuff to bits! Anyone that likes sci fi and giant robots give this a try!

I was happily playing games before, Contra 3, Super MArio RPG and MegaMan X, close the plugin and come back later when it doesn't want to load anymore, constantly gives me this: Error: Failed to download game ROM file.

Then the plugin crashes.

I've tried repairing it, uninstall and reinstall, just wondering what the deal was, because I'd like to get back to recording game vids again to earn some Viz.

Anyhoo, thanks for the help.TTFN

Hold it, I have one more to add, and I was reminded by browsing the GB games here. The gameboy, the original brick gameboy, was perhaps my favorite handheld ever (only recently replaced by my psp) And the games that I loved on it were always close at hand, there was of course PokeMon, Blue. Zelda, Links Awakening, Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 (I mastered Scorpion on that) super mario land, Wario Land(I obsessed with that game for a long time) and of course, the classic, Tetris. There were others but these were my favorite of all time.

Frodlex : As to Chrono Trigger, yes I have played it, but not until YEARS later, namely emulated on a laptop, and it was indeed a fantastic ride. As for the final fantasy games... well... the only FF games I ever really enjoyed were 1, 7, 9 and the old FF adventures for the old GB.

AS for Live a Live, yes I did play it, though was often distracted away from the game by other shinier (not always better) games..... like pokemon blue.

Hmmm... I'd have to say of all time, it would be the SNES (its the most I'm playing here too XD) Because with the SNES I had super Mario World, Contra 3, and most importantly (And most played) The Legend of Zelda: Link to the past that I played and beaten so many times.

But recently my PC has become my big thing (And since visiting this place I wonder why?...)But also because of Steam and the 100+ games I've bought on it... (I need a life)

And my PSP, because I've hacked it to emulate some of my favorite games on it too :3 including some VDScumm games! Woot! So I can emulate games on the go on a big gig stick :3 good times to be had man, good times to be had.

But yeah... Super Nintendo man.... that was the day.

Well, I've uploaded two videos, and plan to upload more.

Question however I have one video I plan to be part of a set (IE just one chunk of a big video I want to do, namely a full playthrough of Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars) Want to ask, would I get Viz for each chunk I do (I figure they'll be 5-15 minutes each, because the recorder bugs now and then) or should I just wait and get the Viz for when I upload the entire thing? (which I expect to be 2-3 hours long at least.) I just wanted to know.

Anyway here are the videos:
Super Mario RPG - Legend of the 7 Stars
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvfihS8rcXU

And

The legend of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVoX0QZ748U

Thanks for the help!

And I guess that would be 500 Viz if they got approved?... 1000 if they get on the Viz youtube channel?

Anyway thanks :3

Okie doki, evidently I can start a new thread yet as I am teh n00b, but oh well I'll just ask here because you people have been fairly awesome.

I've made a video, part 1 of a play through series, but I'm not sure where I should post that on the Vizzed boards. So, any help would be great! Its just over 5 mins long (not submitting to the Vizzed Video thing yet for Viz because I'm going to put all the parts together before I do once I've played through it long enough) but I wanted to share as it is my first ever youtube vid. So comments of course are welcome. :3

But for the heck of it at the moment, here is the url to the youtube thing (not sure I'm allowed to embed vids so I won't.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvfihS8rcXU

Edit:

And I just reached level 2, eff yea!

Okay, I've decided something, I'm going to contribute to the Vizzed site by reviewing games I know and love! As well as make a few youtube videos of play through, tip/tricks I might know (SNES and Genesis here I come!)

So keep a eye out for them (if you like reading reviews anyway) I think I'm going ot have a blast here.

Will I see it? Yes.
Will I go to the theater for it? More then likely.
What are my expectations of it? Well... to be honest for it to be a utter flop. Sure, the previews looked good, but something bugs me about the cast of Dwarves... maybe I'm just too hard core fantasy about that kinda thing but a couple didn't look Dwarven! (like Thorin, that bugged me the most) The others were better... except for the guy in the goofy hat... wut?

But yeah I'll see it, but like most movies, probably after it comes to DVD.

Wow, thanks for all the nice replies! I appreciate it, normally if I post on a board I just listen to the sounds of the crickets... and trolls.

Really liking this place so far!

... I wonder if they'll ever do any DOS emulations in the site... that would raise a new bar of epic! But hey, I'm not complaining!

Off to visit the Belmonts! Cheers!

I'm not usually one to be chatty around a forum or boards, but I thought I'd come to say hello. My wife found this place first and told me about it, I was rather skeptical about it honestly, I've heard of other places that offer old school games to play online, but don't let you save, or use Java (Which other then for Minecraft seems to never work properly for me) or have a bazillion ads, or hoops to jump through.

But this place I like. Family friendly, great old games (I was surprised to see some old Apple II and Commodore 64 games) and you 'rent' the games with online currency, which is a awesome way to do the whole emulation thing legally, I used to have dozens of emulators to visit lands of yesteryear, but now I don't have to worry about it! (and clear a few gigs of space on my computer

So expect to see me cruising the old games of yester-years and expect to see reviews written by me like this one of Super Mario RPG for the SNES: https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=50923 and about other games that bring back found, happy memories of a age gone by.

Well for now I'm off to the 8-bit land of Hyrule! Wish me luck!

Personal Thoughts and Feelings on the Game:

Man this takes me way back. Mid 90's or so, the game had been out for awhile and I saw it now and then,it was of a age where I was first seriously getting into RPGs. Dungeons and Dragons, Bauldur's gate, Zelda, and a few others (Not Final Fantasy though, oddly enough) when I picked out this little title from a old video rental shop. (Does anyone else remember those? Cassettes everywhere, SNES and Sega cartridges everywhere) And I was restricted to just 1 game, being only 12 or so I didn't have much cash from my benevolent parents, so it was a hard choice between Mario RPG, and Contra. In retrospect I'm glad I got Mario RPG.

To me, it was Iconic. After all, in the world of video games what is more iconic at times then our portly plumber friend? I grew up with him with Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario 2, and of course 3 and Super Mario World. So when I started playing it I noticed the name 'SquareSoft' as the makers and though That's a weird name', but in my youth I was woefully ignorant of Squaresoft and their power over video games.

As I play though I'm delighted by the '3D' aspect of the game, it was still rather new in video games so I felt so technologically superior to friends who didn't play it. And Mario, laughably at times, was the silent hero (aren't most in RPGs that Squaresoft make?) in the Mushroom kingdom, which was beautifully realized in the first epic quest, where, you can guess, you have to rescue the Princess Peach from the nefarious Villain Bowser.

However, after the battle something rather strange happens. A sword, nearly as large as the castle Bowser lovingly created, shatters star road! And sinks itself to the midst of the castle, sending Mario flying.

Such was the introduction to the game, one that made me happily eager to play more! Now, I won't reveal too much of the story after this, but the events that followed made me laugh, frustrated the dickens outta me, and even made me go 'awww' now and then. To my delight there was much more to do then what you might expect in other RPGs (See 'Random Battle endless') Side quests, unique ways to battle enemies (being able to reduce damage with a well timed button press), exploring alternative story lines, and even fight beings from another (Final Fantasy) Dimension.

Now some people moan and whine that there is a level 30 level cap, but reaching it is difficult by the end of the game (See 'Grinding' if you are determined to get that level) but the game is balanced where it isn't too easy, or too hard, but steadily ramps the difficulty up making you think and plan your moves ahead of time (and stock up on healing goodies). The bosses especially were fun, and challenging, each having a weakness of some sort to exploit, and strength to carefully avoid. And each character you control (up 3 active and 5 total) earn new powers as they progress, from Mario's super jump, to other characters powers you'll learn to rely on again and again.

A personal word of advice, search everywhere and everything, you'll never know what you'll find, and some can be truly delightful surprised for the game.

Review of the Game:

Graphics: 10
Of its time and era, they were top notch. With a 2 1/2D Isometric perspective it allowed you to see the world beautifully rendered. The colors, as in all Mario games were bright, vibrant, and fun. From the goombas, to worse enemies in the game there is nothing to complain about in the graphics department. There is of course the 'Same enemy, different color' scheme here, but considering that they had I believe 30 some odd unique enemies, it could be forgiven to recolor a couple. Some great special effects included parallexing, and nifty animations in attacks from fireballs to lightning and more. Everything was clear and easily recognized for what it was supposed to be, which really is that much of a surprise for quality from Squaresoft?

Sound: 10
To me, this was perfect in so many ways. There were classic Super Mario tunes that we all know and love, plus a couple 'hidden' tunes you could here in Cameo (Someone from a 'Legend' shows up in the game ) and the battle music was, while only had a couple tracks, fit the mood from wilderness, to mines, to a sunken ship (where oddly you never drown), as well as some unique music for the more epic boss battles. Personally I wish they released a sound track of this game, it was that good. And for those of you musically inclined, you could actually MAKE  your own songs (not very long ones, but still!)

Addictiveness: 8
I've played, and beaten the game a number of times simply because its such a fun game. Now, is there any end game content? Sort of yes. There is a casino (if you can find it, its rather well hidden) and secrets to explore as well as hidden chests EVERYWHERE! (you can buy a locator ring that tells you if you're in the same room with one) Not to  mention side stories and the number of mini games you can play are always fun. From song making, to white water river swimming, puzzle solving and more, you can even buy a video game from a kid and try to beat his high score, catch bugs (and sell for loot) and more, good times to be had by all!

Story: 10
While many people do not consider this story canon to the true Mario universe let me ask you this... other then Mario saves princess peach from Bowser (or some other baddie) has the world EVERY been the same? The answer is no (and in some games you don't even have to save the princess) But this is defiantly a unique approach to the game, and you'll see it poking fun at other games or popular media at the time (like the power rangers... yes, the guys in tights and run around in dino bots) But the story IS engrossing, and starts simple (save the princess Mario!) and gets stranger along the way, and opens up multiple avenues to explore, from bosses, to side stories. And the music and visuals fit it perfectly, at times you even feel sad for the inhabitants of the world and more then once will have 'What in the Heck' moments. (See: Boosters Tower... that's all I'll say)

Depth: 9
The game is HUGE. I've mentioned it already a few times but there are side quests galore, hidden goodies to find, rare currency to hoard (for some of the best items in game), mini game sot play and beat high scores of (and get loots from), puzzles to solve, mazes to go through, monsters to beat, including rare and very hard bosses (there is one boss that is optional and hard to unlock but is HARDER then the endgame boss... and defiantly has the air of Final Fantasy to it.) So yes the game has a great deal of depth of things to do, mine cart riding, bullet bouncing, Dojo fighting, and my favorite, finding super stars and killing EVERY THING by touching it Muhahahahahah! (and yes, you get the experience for it, so its a mad dash to kill everything while you can )

Oh and I dare you to not to yell out 'Stop... Hammer time!' when Mario gets his first hammer weapon. Its a great moment.

Difficulty: 7
This one I had a hard time rating. Its defiantly easy in the start and hard in the end and is scaled quiet well to progression through the story. So if you blow through the story, you'll have a bit of a hard time with later bosses and hard enemies, but for you completionists or side questers you'll still have a good challenge waiting for you. The controls take a little getting used to, but by the first hour of the game, you'll have understood them, though mastering takes a little time to accomplish. Pushing the button at the right time can reduce damage on you, or increase the damage you do on a special or even standard attack, so you get a sense of the games rhythm along the way.
Something they did I thought was rather clever in making the game challenging without being impossible is limiting your inventory space, items don't stack, so you are limited to the number of items you have the restore HP FP (flower points which do magic) status cures, and revival items, so you have to balance your needs out well, especially alter in the game. You also have a limit on the amount of coins used in the game, only up to 999 (after all, what other currency would there be besides coins?) So saving up a massive amount of coins won't do much for you, but there is plenty to spend it on, from weapons and armor, to fancy hotel rooms with room service (which actually give you a selection unique items)

So yes the game can be hard, but the distinction here is that it isn't impossible, and a rather good time to be had!

Overall Review:  9.7

This game belongs in the classics of gaming history. And on the top 100 RPGs of all time made I think. It was fun, beautiful, sounded wonderful, and the story was engrossing with memorable characters and epic boss battles, all the things that make a great RPG, don't let the fact that its a 'Mario' game throw off if you are a hard core RPG enthusiast, this game is well worth your time to explore and have fun with. Besides, would Mario every steer you wrong? So this is a definitive must play for any enthusiasts of RPgs, or Mario, or someone looking for a good time without having to worry too much about RPG details (like is my attack high enough to hit that, or will I do enough damage per second?)

Give it a try and pick up your hammer, and prepare for a good time in a unique and wonderful rendition of Mario Land where you find all sorts of familiar, and new faces.

Though ONE personal gripe I have, honestly. Yoshi made it, but why didn't Luigi? I mean, really? .

I mean, really? .
