I've got premium accounts on Dragonfable, AQ, my AQW ran out just recently (which is sad, I dropped a lot of $ on that. xD) how much would you offer for one of the other two though? |

Welcome to the forums youngling!!! Posting on the forums is a good way to make vizzed, so long as you have meaningful contributions to the website. It's hard for me to tell people what games to try because I end up playing a lot of the odds and ends that rarely anyone has touched, just for the sake of streaming, I enjoy the Punch-Out series, or a game you'll have to search around a bit for if you're okay with feeling your way around the game (unless you can read Japanese, also another reason I can't tell people what to play). And also... May the schwartz be with you. Posting on the forums is a good way to make vizzed, so long as you have meaningful contributions to the website. OrdannonsX : That was actually an unintentional mishap, I believe what had happened was I did everything properly the first time, then I either miss clicked, or hit backspace while editing the spaces in my post and just so happened to pass over it as I was putting in the scores. EDIT: I went ahead and made the proper changes, the 8 is a solid number cause the game held up when it came to everything going on between the blizzard, the detail in both enemies and the Bat himself, but it lost points in the fact that it has clipping issues and a few other marring scars caused via technical errors on the map that have been known to cause hollow or even un-rendered objects. Very astute observation, I believe it can be very contextual but the simple answer of it would be (in my opinion), that it's a thing of human nature, we set this level of acceptance and over time it has raised/lowered in different parts of the world, without any sort of fame behind your face the things you do don't mean that much to people, the ones who it does matter to will never know it happened because there was nobody there to make a big thing of it. But the moment you make a mistake it falls below that invisible bar of expectations they set and now you're on a certain list that most people make it difficult and time consuming to get off of. (If you cared to get off of that said list in the first place.) But that's just my take on it, again the contextual nature of the question could change my answer dramatically, but that was just a general response. Graphics - I'll be covering the ps3 portion of this and treating this as if those of you who are reading have never played this game, over the average version this game should only be picked up if you've never played the original, as it stands to be more of a game of the year type of deal, the detail models on the characters are what one would except from a studio like NetherRealm (creators of Mortal Kombat), this game is a love letter to all the long time DC comic fans, the costumes respect source material to the general outline of each carefully crafted costume for hero/villain alike but with that special touch of NetherRealm's flair giving them sort of a gritty adult filter to fit the world around them, this attention to the costumes can even be seen amid/post battle where the scratches, bruises and other combat related injuries can be seen on your war-torn costumes. The love and attention to detail didn't just stop at the characters however, it sprouted to the environment and interactables that we'll cover later on in the review, the battle rages on spanning from Arkham Asylum, to Metropolis and beyond, each stage being littered with Easter Eggs that would leave many a comic book lovers giddy with delight, most larger stages present what is known as a 'transition', in these transitions the player is able to use a strong knock-back attack that can blow their opponents through walls and other crazy devices that take you from one background scenario to another, Metropolis I believe being the prime example as the entire stage is actually broken up into three parts of the city, these actually flow surprisingly well without any frames dropping on you. Sound - We'll go ahead and start this off with the games soundtrack, it's credited for two as there are various artist that play actual songs that were either made or based around the game, the other is an orchestrated set list that matches the gritty and desperate tone of the game, it's great background noise for when you're trying to relax or you're on the great forums here of Vizzed! Now lets jump into the real thick of the sound department, NetherRealm really pulled it together when they were making this game, the voice casting is either original actors from their respective animated series, or people who sound nearly identical to the personalities that they were portraying, it really brought out quirks of the DC universe that we've come to love, be the humor between Green Lantern and Green Arrow, or the special clash between characters like Superman and Lex Luthor, one thing I really-really loved about this game was the fact it was synced up properly to the mouth movements of all the characters. Amid combat the background scenes are cluttered with heroes and villains battling it out on a war torn alternate Earth that will be slightly covered in our story telling segment, but this does not disrupt the noises that the immediate background of interactibles pose, there was a certain degree of care from the sound department the day they decided to record all the different sound effects for combat animations, as punches pack a meaty wallop to the ear drums while you're kicking in peoples teeth, from lasers, to guns and the norm of the DC universe everything is spot on and just like you'd hope to see in a video game based on your favorite characters. Addictiveness - I don't usually include this section into my reviews but since my reviews will now specifically be for Vizzed, I will use this segment to talk about the overall niche that keeps you coming back in a fighting game, the multi-player. There is a profound sense of tension and pride when going up against other players globally with your favorite elected hero/villain, it becomes a battle of wits and skill to see who can overcome the other first and get a lead early in the round on health, the feeling of immersion is bare but still present as it feels like you're living out your childhood dream of being in a comic book and ripping through the streets with super powered combative martial arts and brutality. There is in fact a ranking system that goes mostly be levels all the way in to the upper 100s, each level can grant you access cards, which you can use to unlock different alternate world costumes, or just concept art of pre-character outfit stages and the like, or some levels will present you with special icons/display photos/backgrounds to use to make your player card stand out from the rest of the characters, these can also be unlocked via combat prerequisites that you gradually gain over time. The net code for this game is about average, which means with the right internet connection you shouldn't have any problems with lagging mid-combat, unless you're playing with a friend who has a closed router, otherwise all is right as rain with the match-making system that i've experienced in this game, it's kept me playing well past the point of some other fighting games. Story - Normally in a game like this I would have nary a notion as what to say, but thankfully Injustice does something that not many other fighting games have ever done, it actually tries to tell a decent story based on the characters that fill it's roster, it starts off like your average Justice League episode with a gathering of heroes fighting the slew of super villains that have banded together, this spans from ground battles all the way up into the Justice League Watch Tower, time goes on and they eventually find out that The Clown Prince of Darkness is at it again only this time he means business, a comic book series released along side the game to fill in the gaps that the games story had, but for player purposes we didn't really mind not knowing the whole story, Joker got his hands on a nuclear device that would wipe out Metropolis as a whole, after some events occur that I shall not spoil, we end up in yet another alternate Earth where the Joker was fooled Superman and forced him destroy all that ever it was that made him human. So begins a war between not only heroes, but villains in the fight between what is considered right and what is considered wrong, it's up to first realm rosters to battle their alternate versions in the dystopian realm to free the human race from being enslaved by the super powers that be. It really is quite the treat for a super hero based game, I think most comic book fans will happily appreciate the care that NetherRealm and DC have partnered with to create. Gameplay - If you've played any of Mortal Kombat 9 you'll vaguely know how similar the combat style is, there is in fact a practice mode that you can either play alone, or with a friend online to infinitely practice combos and chaining together some flashy and brutal moves that sure to pack a wallop, the games mechanics are broken down into strong and light attacks that can be mixed for hard hitting effect, or partnered with your respective characters super powers to create an interesting dynamic to chaining together juggles, wall bounces and other forms of fighting game lingo, it's all here in one way or another for fans of the fighting genre, be it the wall transitions, or powerful grab attacks, or the endless combos that drive you into a satisfying victory if you can pull off that 90% health beat down. While we're on the subject of the fighting mechanics, I should mention the AWESOME super specials that you can pull off with a maxed out bar, which allowed you to do an extremely flashy albeit a bit silly at times ultra combo, which can allow for things like Superman yanking his enemy into space and then hurdling him back down to Earth with a brutal hammer fist, or General Zod yanking his opponent up through the moon, only to yank him back through the other side and hurdling down towards the Earth, the game really can be a bit larger than life with these flashy move sets. That said, there is only one ultra move per character and after seeing them for the billionth time after countless matches of story/online play, the 'ooouuh, ahhhh' factor begins to grow old and stale, making it a shame that they never introduced a secondary ultra in post Apart from supers, you can actually use your meter to enhance the damage on your combos allowing for some jaw shattering attacks that'll leave your opponent on the defensive, this meter burn can also be used to enhance your super powers actually changing the animations from a few frames into an extended four-to-five second long attack that can leave a stunned moment of opportunity to open wide with the fists and feet of fury! The circle button is also a host to some pretty special moves that vary from character to character, allowing things for like electronic bats for Batman that can force an enemy to defend while he's trying to attack, or bringing out a mirror minion with Zod to grab and control the enemy for a short duration so you can get in close to chain a combo off of. Lets cover some of the things like interactables, which are items set around the stage that with the simple press of the R1 button you can throw giant objects are your enemy for some massive damage, depending on the character and their size it can have varied effects, like a car that would be thrown by super man with ease, would actually be detonated by Batman with some sort of sticky bomb, it's things like these that can be a real game changer/saver if you need some last minute hard pushes, or quick escapes from your enemy. On character neutrality, there have been cries from some players that characters like Death Stroke, or Superman are supposedly horrendously broken, but this actually isn't the case if you know the proper characters and moves to combat those said players, these characters I mentioned in example are in fact extremely hard to properly master, regardless of some of their easier opening attacks. In the end it really comes down to mastering your craft as a fighting styled player, if you don't want to devote that kind of time to fighting others online, there will always be something to do in one of the many various single player modes, the story, or even just messing around with friends and family in some friendly competitive multi-player! Customization - Now this is very With that having been said, I really like the choice between costumes that this game bundles in together from all the DLC, some of these also come in the form of extra player cards and backgrounds for flashy multi-player individuality. Difficulty - Another category that is Vizzed exclusive, this will be extremely brief as the difficulty isn't really what's important in a game like this, you get the usual gradual curve of difficulty as you progress in the arcade mode where it almost begins to feel like the AI are cheating you in some way or another, but this type of game really is about just sitting down and mastering the craft over a weeks duration of off and on playing, experimenting on what combos work and what doesn't, it really helps to have a friend for this kind of thing to speed the process along, but regardless the game hands you some mighty fine tools to help you hone your craft. Overall Value - A fighting game like this is unique in the sense that it tries to be more than the others on the market of it's kind, in some ways it fell in on itself for trying to be more than advancements have allowed, but for the type of game it is and the type of market it was reaching out to, i'd say it's a must buy for fighting fans and comic fans alike, given that this is the ultimate edition and includes all the costume DLC and extra character DLC? It's quite a value for the level of replay-ability. Thanks for reading this review, game on! Graphics- This is it, we're coming to the end of a life cycle for last gen consoles and making way for the next generation of systems, most companies know the in's and out's of the PS3 that allow them to make games seem as beautiful as could be for as old as the technology is, developer and mapper short-cuts allow for some truly outstanding looking console games. But with that having been said, there are some clipping issues that you'll notice from time to time, as well as graphical glitches that weren't ironed out before the games final release, some of you will come across this where textures loaded oddly, or sometimes not at all, sometimes the world would actually split apart on one part of the map causing me to fall repeatedly into the water below the city surface, or just continually fall till my character eventually bat-grappled back to safety. This is most certainly jarring and unpolished in that respect, but this might not happen to everyone and for that I can only deduct a few points from it due to personal experience, this studio has a lot to learn before it becomes a Rocksteady! Sound- The sound is pretty crisp and the voice acting after about thirty minutes into the game tends to grow on you given that barely any of the original voicing cast remained. However the sound of the wind as it blows, the flow of your cape, the crackle of broken bones, crushing gloves, dismantling weapons, beating baddies, and using gadgets all have their original charm from the previous Rocksteady games, with that having been said another case of unfortunate glitches can sometimes leave a crackle in the audio that would mar this category from being a perfect score. Game Play- The game play is more of the same and that isn't necessarily a bad thing as some professionals might try to argue, this is consistency of a free-flow combat system that was proven to work, gadgets and fists/feet fly and mix perfectly with a responsive countering system, i'm going to break the 4th wall of reviewing here and mention that i've seen other reviewers say that the combat didn't flow as well as Asylum or City, I would strongly care to disagree and propose the fact that possibly these players have become rusty, as anytime that I was hit by a baddie, it's because I wasn't paying attention and wasn't prepared for the number of enemies I was about to be facing. With that being said this game can sometimes be downright frustrating from mechanical glitches that should have been easy to spot and iron out if proper play testing had been done, searching corners could lead to your inevitable checkpoint restart due to the fact that you can seemingly get stuck on thin air, the game will sometimes freeze randomly when these glitches pile up in a certain order and if the game is saving (potentially) lose your save data to corruption and this can be incredibly infuriating and even unforgivable as far as offenses go, stated above in the graphics category I even fell through the world a few times where the road was seemingly just an empty texture with no solid base, it wasn't game breaking but it was certainly jarring and frustrating, compared to the shoes they had to fill. A fast travel system is a welcome change that allow you to zip from one area of the map to the other without much trouble using the automated bat-jet, however using these will force you to unlock and decipher the hack codes to open the relays that will freely unlock your quick travel points, of course using this system could cause you to miss a crime in progress for challenging fights and bonus XP. Detective mode also makes a return with two different styles, the vision is the same one we came to rely on in the previous two entries, showing us where the baddies are, what weapons they use, their heart rate, or mood meter and how you're effecting it, the other however for actual Detective work made a complete and welcomed overhaul that got many excited, being able to scan a crime scene and take each second of a crime and recreate it frame per frame, listening to Batman talk as you pieced crime scenes together was a real treat. Challenge maps make a return and in a stylish fashion, with a season pass that ensures more to come, instead of the Joker being a playable villain, Deathstroke is now the counter opposite to Batman at the moment allowing for a fresh new take on some acrobatic combat styles, the combat maps can be a challenge if you're into leader boards and different stipulations can make a map harder or easier depending, predator maps also make a stylish return and force different factors to make a map harder to get a three out of three trophy rating, stipulations can also make these maps easier or harder depending, but can also prevent you from getting a perfect rating, factors that I hadn't noticed in prior games are also included like a hostage situation after taking out a terrified thugs crew members till he was the only one left. Combat Training is another part of the challenge maps that can actually help you master your craft at being the Batman and not just another spandex wearing vigilante, gadget use, predator stalking skills, and combo mastery are all really helpful tools to learn for when you start jumping into the fray with extremely large crowds of enemies and want to take them out quickly, effectively and stylishly so as to fill the new grading meter that awards extra XP for thinking before punching. Mutliplayer Combat makes a controversial appearance, one that I was both excited for and skeptic of, unfortunately it's potential has not yet been met, due to the fact that players are too busy playing the story, challenge maps, or just generally don't care for that kind of experience, however I can attest that when I did find enough players and was able to play enough games to level up past rank 10, the game really opened up with customization and weapon choices, the thugs act as an almost gears of war over the shoulder shooter, while answering the door to the Joker will keep you in that Third-person-shooter mode but with a one shot pistol, answering the door for Bane will open up to a new style of instant take downs and knock down special attacks that can kill regular thugs and stun super heroes, two players are also chosen at random at the end of reach round, usually consisting of the top four scoring players that will take the place of Batman and Robin, similar to singe player mechanics the heroes now hunt users instead of AI thugs to try and sneak take down or mull over head on, usually resulting in some form of death unless your opponents have terrible aim. The multi-player now currently has two modes that both act quite similar to each other in the styles of a death match/capture the zones sort of deal, a nice little filler for now on what could have been, but matches also require a MANDATORY user count of 8 players to even start the match, with a 30 second wait to vote for a map and another 30 seconds to even start, regardless of all players being ready, it's unneeded and could possibly be tweaked in the future being a peeve by most players, another major issue with it is their net-coding that leaves much to be desired as matches can kick you mid-game leaving you to think that something might be wrong with your own internet, but rest assured that it's not the case, for now it's pretty bare bones and could desperately use some extra content when phases start to pass through getting the ball rolling. Story Telling- Spoiler-free, the story has some great focus on some of Batman's lesser known villains, though the pacing is kind of frantic and in your face with most of them all at once, it doesn't quite stand up there with Rocksteady's prior franchise entries but it takes us to some new places that was I graciously thankful for, however it did end kind of short in my opinion, but with more phases coming in the DLC packs with a supposed entire brand new story line, you can't help but be excited to return for more filling story information that bridges the gap between Origins and Asylum. Customization- Customization is mostly limited to Multiplayer when it comes to your thug characters, otherwise there is a plethora of Batman and Robin suits that are wearable in story and challenge modes, most neatly noted is that you can also wear this outfits in multiplayer giving it almost a feeling of your own personal flair when you finally get to be one of them to take down other players (Robin isn't in the story), so this rating could only be so high to begin with, as weapon customization is merely just skins that have no actual purpose towards bettering your weaponry. Overall Value- Batman Arkham Origins is very much a love/hate relationship, I can't help but love this Batman game cause it revisits some of the best parts of Arkham City, while being able to take us to new and exciting avenues of it's own giving us a fuller picture of this specific universe, it's an acceptable entry by a newer developer and I won't knock them for giving the old college try, however there are some hefty bugs that are scattered throughout the game and it's game play that really do affect the score tremendously, do I believe it's worth the full $60, for Batman fans with money to spend, yes, for a regular gaming fan that just enjoys the casual super hero game, wait for about a $40 price drop and then perhaps if you want drop another $20 on the season pass to get all the extra content that was added post launch, or just wait for the GOTY edition, overall i'd give this game a definite buy. (Even if at reduced price.) But with that having been said, there are some clipping issues that you'll notice from time to time, as well as graphical glitches that weren't ironed out before the games final release, some of you will come across this where textures loaded oddly, or sometimes not at all, sometimes the world would actually split apart on one part of the map causing me to fall repeatedly into the water below the city surface, or just continually fall till my character eventually bat-grappled back to safety. Graphics - This games main focus is making everything look crisp and visuals are about 45% of the game, the clear graphics enhance the feeling of your Shadow-Like adversaries and everything just really plays out to be pretty gritty. The light effects and shadow texturing of the game is one of the best that I've seen for quite a long time, but seeing as this games whole concept is based around Shadows, It's pretty understandable as to why so much detailing was put into them. However the bad side to all of this positive, the voice syncing issue has struck me again, I absolutely hate it when games can't get their voices to match the mouth movement. It makes a stunning story feel like a cheesy Godzilla movie (although nothing wrong with a bit of Gojira), perhaps it has been patched and fixed for others, but for me it wasn't Another issue is the fog is kind of out of focus and messes with you, you could even say that it makes things even scarier and therefore enhancing the experience instead of breaking it, but it surely shouldn't be so shortly animated! Sound - Where the Graphics show flaws, the sound perfectly makes up for it and I was stunned by the level of detail in the weapon sounds, the guns acted perfectly and the light fixtures which you use against the Dark were perfected with real instruments instead of a library of sounds. The Characters voice acting for the most part is superb and really draws you into this sort of Tv Show kind of experience, you really feel as though you're Alan Wake at times even if just by watching the adventure unfold it really makes for an experience you shouldn't miss, when you're exploring the dark and you hear whispers and voices, It'll make you turn around and look to make sure nobody is actually creeping up on you! And it goes without shame to say that you will jump and be on edge for more than half of the game just because of voices that you hear in the complete darkness. However there is bad to be said about all of this creeping atmospheric experience, as I have mentioned before the sound-to-video syncing is off by about 1-2 seconds and that can sometimes break your in the moment experience, it also has to be said that the some of the voices you hear are actually very cheesy and kind of make you want to laugh instead of cower in fear (Ala. Deadly Premonition), so it's very much a hit-miss process, but lucky for us most of the instances are a hit. Game Play - I'll start this one off with the Negative, the game becomes extremely repetitive and it doesn't really quite match up with the length of the game, not to say that this should break your experience but it could have used for a bit more diversity, I'm happy to say though that for at least half of the game it actually expands into different genre's while you're busy exploring the world they've set out for you. The Day-Night effects are pretty much one of the best out there for this time period and that's because the game specializes in this feature, during the day you're able to explore without much fear and you're able to meet and talk with towns folk to get a better grip on the story at hand and more about the people in general, it makes for a very surreal in the moment kind of atmosphere. The Night plays out with a bunch of weapon wielding Hill-Billies, an enemy that we don't actually get to see that often surprisingly and to make matters worse for your character, they're over-shielded by your true enemy 'The Darkness'. You on the other hand are just some Yankee writer trying to get a good story, you have a flash light and some guns and that makes for some very on edge moments when you're battling the baddies, you are the epitome of Average Joe's and you are extremely out numbered and almost completely blind in the dark, so on this grand scale stack set against you.. You have to prove that you can duke it out with the best of them and flash that light over them with your light/flares and take out the darkness before you can even kill the vulnerable hill folk with a buckshot/slug, also a handy trick is a slow motion dodge and sprint that Alan can execute, but he's no Athlete by far! On the down side to everything positive I have just said, the controls take a bit getting used to and sometimes you'll run out of ammo too fast, also another deal is the in game advertising, at times this won't seem like such a big deal as it brings some realism to the game by showing some of what we see in our every day, but at times it can be very game breaking with the fact you have these signs in places they should just not be.. For Example: "Oh no the baddies are after me, run, run, run!! Oh shi-hey a cell phone bill board! Oh gawk!.. -Dead-" That's just one experience you'll have with annoying signs being out in the middle of nowhere and right up in front where it serves zero purpose, but again there is so much outweighing the bad on this, just give this an overlook and keep on trucking through your adventure to which I implore you won't want to miss. Story Telling - If you've ever seen Super Natural, Heroes, Lost... You'll know exactly what kind of atmosphere you're in for, the game plays out in Chapters and even has a 'as previously seen on Alan Wake' feature that you'll come across for every segment, the game does an excellent job of immersing the player and it's very much story based which is a rare find in all of the mindless violence found today in video games (which I also would like to say isn't necessarily a bad thing), who knew that trying to find your missing wife would be so fun? I respect the amount of detail put into Alan's past and the characters around them as you find out about their past and how they react in progressing your own story during the present, absolutely nothing bad to say here that I can recall and it's something best left to the players experience than told in a game review. Customization - The game has nary a customization option, i'd chance to say that I recall there not even being an extra unlockable outfit for Mr.Alan, but in a game like this it's not very required, or needed, the only extra content you get after beating the game is Nightmare mode which adds it's own set of challenges. Overall Value - It ranks within the top 10 of games that I believe everyone should play from this era of consoles, I think it's memorable experience and sets us up against enemies that at the time of it's release were rarely seen in other video games.
