I have gotten frustrated at many old 3D platformers. Mainly due to poor camera angles, low framerate, and awkward controls. What can I do though, that's just age. I also get frustrated at any game that has confusing objectives. So basically any bad game frustrates the crap out of me. |

I like the PS3 version, as its the closest thing you can get to the PC. I do prefer the PC version though. As its got the precision of a mouse. |

There are times where I think the Saturn could do so much more then what its games showed, but then I picked up Manx TT Super BIke. Despite the generic title, I was wondering on how a motorcycle game held up on the Saturn. Turns out this is a perfect showcase for what the Saturn hardware could really do. It also provides pure arcade racing fun. Something that Sega is great at doing. Gameplay B: The gameplay is solid, especially for a Saturn 3D racing game. It plays like an arcade game where you have to race through tracks and reach checkpoints to keep your time going. You have 7 other racers to go against, and they are pretty relentless. It seems as though their bikes are faster then yours and they even have analog steering. You can have analog steering too if you have a Saturn 3D controller. I don't have one, but from what I heard it works better then using the D-pad. Which is what I had to use to play the game. When steering with the D-pad, the controls are twitchy and its easy to over-steer. However if you are in first person mode this removes the issue. The game is challenging, and very addicting. Just like an arcade style game should. I spent hours shaving seconds off my best time. That's saying something there. Graphics A-: The Saturn was very weak for 3D games, but Manx TT Super Bike is one of the best looking Saturn games I have ever seen. The framerate is smooth as butter, and the sunny enviroments and detailed graphics really show what the Saturn can do. This is due to the amount of sprites used instead of polygons. They are mixed so well that sometimes you can't tell the difference. All you can do is stare at the beautiful scenery. Of course to obtain a smooth framerate you must sacrifice SOMETHING. Well there is pop up, but its very well hidden, and it doesn't look nearly as bad as Daytona USA, or other earlier Saturn games. Sound B-: The sound is good for the most part. The announcer sounds happy to be existing in the game, and the music is catchy and memorable. The sound effects are typical, with engine noises, and the clashing of riders. Depth D: Could Sega be any lazier for adding content to this game. There are only 2 tracks, and 2 mirrored variations. I know this was once an arcade game, but Sega could have added more tracks. There are 4 modes. There is arcade mode, which is just a single race, with only one motorcycle available. There's Saturn mode, which is a circuit mode with several bikes to choose from. Next there is time trial mode where you simply race alone to beat your best times. Finally you have 2 player mode, which is self explanatory. Nothing special in terms of content, but the addictive gameplay bypasses this. OVERALL RATING B Gameplay B: The gameplay is solid, especially for a Saturn 3D racing game. NOTE TO MODS: There is no place to put system reviews so I had to do them here. The Sega Saturn was a system that only the most hardcore of gamers truly remember. Why? Well, the Saturn failed to gain the audience it needed to survive. Its games failed to impress, 3rd party support was low, and the thing cost $400 at launch, as the hardware inside was really complex. Despite its failure, the Saturn lives on in the hearts of hardcore gamers. Design A-: The Saturn is a very well designed console. The CDs go on the top along with memory cartridges that expand the Saturn's internal memory, RAM, bypass region coding, or all of these things together. Speaking of which the Saturn has internal memory, which is nice if you buy it used, that way you don't have to buy memory cards. Sega didn't execute the Saturn's internal memory very well. There's very limited room, meaning you would have to buy memory cartridges. Though you don't have to buy a lot as the cartridges hold 10X (memory varies) more memory then the Saturn itself. The memory inside the Saturn powered by a tiny lithium battery. So you might have to buy a new battery if you want to save games. The Saturn is pretty heavy as the power supply is built in, but it feels like you have a high quality piece of hardware when you use the Saturn. The disc reading mechanism is quiet unlike the loud Playstation mechanism, and from what I heard there are a lot less durability issues with the Saturn then the Playstation. Controller: B+: While not as solid as the Genesis controller, the Saturn controller is pretty comfortable. It's shaped very similarly to the Genesis controller, but it has 6 face buttons along with 2 shoulder buttons. The D-pad feels a bit awkward at first, but its great for 2D games. Sega later released the 3D controller which was huge, but had an analog thumb-stick, and analog triggers. I can't say what it feels like as I don't have the controller. Packaging D-: When I bought my Saturn I looked at the games thinking that the packaging was great. Only to find out that its the crappiest CD packaging I have ever seen. Its not rare for a game case to become cracked due the cheap plastic that the cases are made out of. So if you buy a Saturn TAKE CARE OF THE PACKAGING. Treat it like a baby, because if you drop it, there will be a lovely crack in the case and it will look terrible. Graphics B-: The Saturn's 3D graphics were far behind the Playstation, and the N64. This was because the Saturn had 2 main CPUs and slew of other processors. This made it hard for developers to program for the Saturn, to make things worse the console used quadrilaterals instead of triangles. This was very new to developers and made it more difficult to make good looking 3D games on the Saturn. They got better over the years, but the 3D graphic capabilities were modest for the Saturn. 2D games on the other hand looked amazing. The Saturn had better 2D graphics then the Playstation, and it shows in its games. The Saturns true graphical strength is in 2D sprites. Games/ collectibitly B-: The Saturn has a lot of hidden gems that will appeal to hardcore gamers. From the awesome fighting games to the unique games, the Saturn has one of best libraries around. Sadly a lot of Playstation hits didn't make it to the Saturn, and 3rd party games are mediocre (for the most part) and don't really push the hardware. The best games come from Sega. The Saturn had a ton of great arcade ports. Games like Virtua Fighter 2, and Sega Rally play great, and are faithful to their arcade counterparts. To get the best games however; you must pay an arm and leg. The Saturn US games can get expensive due to high demand, and rarity. You will find more games at a cheaper price if you buy imported games. The Sega Saturn was a system that only the most hardcore of gamers truly remember. Why? Simply put the next gen systems are not as impressive as I had hoped. I have played on an Xbox One and while the UI was cool and the kinect was great, I really didn't see a lot of improvement in terms of graphics and gameplay.? I'm still having high hopes that this generation will get better with time, but for right now I'm sticking with my Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360. I hate it when classic games go into the mysterious 3D world. I really do. Franchises that were once hits in the 2D world (Sonic) took a big hit once they went into 3D. Then I come across Pac-Man World for the Sony Playstation. My expectations were mixed, but what I got was one of the best 3D platformers I have ever played on the PS1. More so any gaming platform. Not bad for a little yellow sphere that eats Tic-Tacs and murders ghosts. Gameplay A-: Pac-Man World has some of the finest 3D platforming gameplay you can get out of the PS1 era of gaming. What makes it work so well is that it doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, it isn't a free roaming game like Mario 64. Its mostly side scrolling with full polygon visuals. Of course the levels do move forward and backward like you would expect but they are mostly left and right with free roaming controls. The levels are so well designed, that you will want to find every secret and maze contained in each one. Pac-Man has a full set of moves that borrow from other games of its genre. Pac-Man can butt bounce (Crash Bandicoot 2) rev up (Sonic) and shoot pac-dots at enemies that he finds scattered about. All these moves are used, and they all have their purpose. The game is mostly consistent of chomping ghosts, jumping (duh), bouncing on switches. You know, the standard stuff, but its all done so well. The levels are really well designed, I never felt lost. A benefit of its style of gameplay. The game has a light difficulty level that makes expert players want to find all the secrets, while allowing younger players to ease into the game. The bosses are really creative and add variety to the game. Graphics B+: Like many PS1 games time has not been kind to the games visuals. The chunky polygon graphics look mediocre today, but have held up better then most PS1 games. If you think about the consoles limitations the graphics in Pac-Man world are bright, colorful, and good looking. There's no clipping, and minimal pop up. The frame rate is smooth, and colors are all vibrant. Sound C-: There's not much to say here. Most of the songs are mediocre variations of the Pac-Man themes in the original arcade game (ugh) I did like the Space themes though. They have a 90s arcade flair to them. The sound effects are rehashes of the Pac-Man arcade games sound effects. Since this is Pac-Mans 20th anniversary game I guess I can cut these sound effects some slack. Addictivness A: If you die, its your fault. You will still be angry enough to want to come back and try to beat whatever stage you are sucking at. There is a lot of variety making the game more fun to play, and making you wonder what will come next. Depth A+: Pac-Man World is a large game. Don't let the 20 stages fool you. The 20 stages are long and will take time to beat. If that wasn't enough try going back and saving all your friends, is that still not enough? Well there are 2 other modes to choose from. Maze mode allows you to pick a 3D maze that you unlocked in the main game. Then we have an arcade perfect version of the original Pac-Man. That game is pure programming perfection. Nothing in this whole package can top that game. Gameplay A- Fun, and addicting this game is pure platforming bliss with enough variety to keep you playing Graphics B+ While looking chunky today, this game has aged well in the graphical department. Sound C- Nothing to write home about, not great, not bad. Addictiveness A There's plenty of diversity to keep you playing. Depth A+ This is a solid package, a large quest mode, a fun maze mode, and the classic Pac-Man original make this game really large. That would be a very daunting task for the developers. Minecraft forces any hardware its on to render so many polygons. That it would struggle on the 3DS, it might do fine though considering that its on IOS, and the Raspberry Pi, but it would be difficult. |

What video game company do you think is overrated? The video game company I think is overrated is.... Nintendo. While they do make some great games, I get sick of hearing them getting praised for everything, even when they don't deserve it. Even when Nintendo makes a mediocre sequel like Mario Galaxy 2 which is the same thing as the first with a few new levels. People worship it, and say its the "best." Before you start a riot, I want you to know that I like Nintendo. They make good games, but they are not the gods of gaming that deserve 1st place in top 10s, and fanboy fits when someone says otherwise. Heck even the Virtual Boy gets praise because it was just "a mistake," oh really, then why is the 32X criticized? That was a mistake too, and it has more games. This thread maybe controversial, especially with my opinion above, but I would like to hear what company you think is overrated. ![]() The video game company I think is overrated is.... Nintendo. ![]() |

I fixed my 2 computers quite a bit. I have had to add new hard drives, re-install windows, reconnect internals, add new hardware, etc. It sucks, but there is something enjoyable about fixing a PC. Maybe its the warm glow of satisfaction. Who knows. |

I'm in the 7th grade, better then 6th grade. With all the confusion and frustration of going to middle school for the first year. I'm used to it now. |

I usually walk up the escalators simply because I'm impatient and have better things to do. Either that or I just like going the extra speed. |

I'm using Google Chrome. I like it because of its speed and simplicity. |
