I guess its a bit obvious from my profile name, but I'm a big FFVI fan.  It was my first exposure to Final Fantasy as well as my favorite of the franchise.  One of the reasons I found Vizzed is because I didn't have a physical copy and wanted to play of one of my favorite games of all time.  Since then, I've been working on beating it at lower levels, obtaining perfect spell, item and skill lists, etc.

One thing I noticed when trying to get these things, is that it's necessary to use various line-ups for different skills on different enemies at several points in the game.  There are times when you need to have Locke to steal something from a rare creature, make decisions between getting an esper or a sword, save a character or lose a rare item, etc.

What decisions do you make throughout the game and what is your go-to line-up?

Personally, I like to have:

-Edgar: Genji Glove & Offering (gives 8 attacks in one turn when selecting "fight") Equipped with Illumina & Atma Weapon (if level is high)
-Sabin: Genji Glove & Black Belt (hits with a hard physical counter attack when hit) Equipped with Dragon Claws X 2 (need to steal one)
-Celes: Economizer & Gem Box (all spells cost 1 MP and get two spells in one turn) Equipped with whatever the current optimum is
-Locke: Sneak Ring & Thief Glove (higher success of "steal" and some damage done when stealing) Equipped with current optimum

Pretty much, I like to rely on physical attacks and being physically strong in my files.  This doesn't cost magic points, is almost always reliable and ensures high hit points.  That's why I have two physically strong characters, like Edgar and Sabin, equipped with weapons in both hands with abilities to attack multiple times or counter when attacked.  Of course I learn all spells and increase magic points for all characters, but I utilize these two as warrior class characters primarily.  I make sure to always have a mage-type character, just because they always seem to do more damage to enemies when using magic.  I usually choose Celes over Terra because she has the "runic" command which absorbs magic attacks-very useful if you're not leveled up enough to stand up to enemies with strong magic.  Everyone I see commenting on the subject always seems to love Locke.  Personally, I don't.  I will say, however, that his "steal" command is what makes him valuable to the party.  Some items are so rare and only give you a chance or two in the entire game to obtain them.  This is why, despite me not liking him all that much, I make sure he's in the party most of the game.  He obtains rare items which I need to make my team just that much stronger.

Also, I make a few distinct decisions throughout the game for certain reasons.  I like to choose Ragnarok as a sword, rather than the esper.  This is because I can always un-curse the cursed shield and obtain the Paladin Shield (which teaches "Ultima," the spell Ragnarok would have taught you.  Plus, you need Ragnarok to obtain Illumina-the strongest sword in the game.)  This causes me to lose the opportunity to summon the Ragnarok esper, which turns enemies into items (sometimes very rare, valuable items.)  I also choose to save Mog rather than Lonewolf.  This causes me to lose out on a Gold Hairpin (rare relic that halves MP consumed) but I do so for a few reasons...there are other Gold Hairpins in the game, Locke can steal them and if you don't get Mog to join your party in the World of Balance, you will miss out on the opportunity to learn the dance "Water Rondo."

Well, those are some decisions I make for my files.  How about you guys?

Okay, okay....I've got a couple here.

If you're ever feeling cold this winter, you should try going and standing in a corner....

....They are usually about ninety degrees!

What do relationships have in common with algebra?

....You look at the ex and try to figure out why!

Mwa ha ha ha!

Not a bad idea for a thread...a lot of opportunity for replies anyway.  Albeit, I'm sure there are many repeats given the site this is posted to.

Well, to start things off, I'd have to say playing video games, reading through threads, typing reviews that never actually post because I guess I can't post reviews from my game profile page-but instead in the game's page in the retro game room and trying to find a decent background for my layout and apply it (which I'm hoping to see when I post this.)

Also, I'd have to say reading my daily dose of news and watching videos of said news.  Then researching the stories from several different sources to ensure that I've heard multiple perspectives on whatever story I read or watched.  The news pundits put their own spin on many of the stories or just plain don't cover some, depending on which network or other news outlet we're talking about.  There are lots of them too.  Everyone knows about FOX, MSNBC and CNN...but there are also Reuters, Breitbart, RT, BBC and other televised networks.  There are also countless youtube shows which cover the same things (although some are just plain unbearable if you have a leaning politically.)  If interested, check out The Young Turks, Majority Report, Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes and Secular Talk for leftist perspectives.  Check out the Blaze, Rush Limbaugh Podcast, and countless unaffiliated commentators with their own youtube accounts for the right wing perspectives.  And then there are the alternative media outlets with the likes of Drudge Report, Alex Jones, Jesse Ventura, Red Pill Revolution, David Icke and a slew of others.  With such a diverse source of perspectives on some of the same news stories, it's quite time consuming to watch or listen to them all.  And then there are the comment threads!  Oh boy...if just listening to the stories was time consuming, gauging public opinion by reading comments on these stories and watching trolls wreak havoc is even more so.  Hours will go by, and it will be time for class or work.

Drinking also has a way of dissolving away your awareness-especially if there's a time frame involved.  Hanging out with my buddies, having some beers, talking about days past, discussing plans for the future and all kinds of other drunk talk gets pretty time consuming.  I'm sure some of you out there know what I mean-those of you over 21, of course It will feel like you just sat down and had a couple beers and talked for a few minutes-only to find out it's been hours and the girlfriend is all pissed off you're not home yet.

Any musicians out there?  I know if I'm writing a song or practicing through a set for an upcoming performance, sometimes it will be half a day and not seem nearly as long.  I always consider this time well spent though.  It doesn't cost anything, you're perfecting a craft and it always feels really good to nail it on performance night.  Ha!  And there's also the drinking that goes along with this one sometimes too.  Yeah, that helps the time really fly by as well.

Well, speaking of losing track of time...it's time I've finished with this post and gotten on with my day.

Hey there cigsvon.  Yeah, I'm currently in your shoes for the same reason.  gamerforlifeforever2's got the idea.  I've been trying to contribute to different threads and discussions-it's the only way to get the Viz in any kind of sensible time frame.  In fact, I think I actually replied to one of your threads about computer programming and then it got shut down a few minutes later.

What's up with that anyway?  I don't know what Jordan78 or whatever his name is was talking about.  The only reply I saw to your post was mine, and then like 10 minutes later, he shuts it down saying something like it had already been answered more than once and further replies would be some kind of spam??

Well either way, I got some decent Viz out of it.  The only thing is, you have to try to submit longer posts for Viz, and then of course, they have to have some kind of substance to them so you don't annoy people or look stupid.  I have thought, however, what would happen if you just typed like the word, "it" 1500 times and submitted a few posts like that.  Anyway, good luck to you.  I know I can't wait for the PSX.  What are you wanting to play?  I'm really wanting to get Final Fantasy VII and Legend of Dragoon for starters.  I can't believe that they have it as the same price as the universal game system item.  Well, looks like I'm about to hit the 250 mark.  Bye.

If it's a hobby that you stick with, you'll see that large canvases and oil paints are pretty expensive.  So, I'd suggest starting out with small to mid sized canvases and acrylic paints.  The types of brushes really depend on what kind of a painter you are or what you're trying to do.  For backgrounds (which are typically done first) I like to use a large brush (almost house paint brush sized-it really depends on the size of the canvas) and other than that, I use brushes whose bristles form a point about the size of a Sharpie marker.

You'll probably find out that acrylics dry out while you're working with them if they're sitting out long enough.  So if you go this route, paint will be more affordable, but you have to know what color you're trying to mix and use it relatively quickly.  The upside is that your paintings will be ready to be handled overnight.

If you decide on oils, be ready for very easy mixing, blending and application with plenty of time to work.  These also work well if you're trying to create a two-color gradient.  Just dip half of the brush into one color and the other half in another, and when you apply it to the canvas you'll see the colors fade into each other-a pretty cool effect.  I believe that is used by Rob Ross a lot.  A couple drawbacks...first, if you're trying to cover something up if you made a mistake, the oils I've tried have not been nearly as opaque as acrylics, so it takes much more paint to cover something up.  Second, it takes sooooo looooong to dry.  Even with relatively thin layers of paint, I've waited 3 or 4 days to be able to safely handle the paintings.

Well anyway, my advice is to start out with acrylics and the size or type of brush is really just preference.  Hope this was helpful!

I'm no expert in this or anything, but I have had to take computer programming classes for school.

Essentially, computer programming is typing and structuring terms and commands for a program to run through.  There are different types of terms and commands to consider...but first, you have to define your term.  The exact syntax will differ from programming language to language, but universally it comes down to introducing a term, and defining it within your program.  Then you may want to offer a display for the user to interact with.  Depending on the program, this can be a question with a blank for the answer, or a scroll menu to answer, perhaps even a visual display with a movable character (like within a video game :O) and depending on what option is chosen, your program will execute a command that was encoded.  What I just described is commonly referred to as a logic gate.  You can use different types.  Mostly, you set it up like this...

display.program["Would you like to continue?"]
   IF[REPLY = "yes" ]
THEN[display.program["You have chosen to continue.  Would you still like to continue?"]
         IF[REPLY = "yes" ]
THEN[LOOP[display.program["You have chosen to continue.  Would you still like to continue?"]
         ELSE[display.program["Good-bye!"]
   ELSE[display.program["Good-bye!"]

What I just typed out is the relative structure for syntax of a program that just asks you if you'd like to continue until you answer "no."  Now this is extremely rudimentary programming involving IF and ELSE statements and even a LOOP command within the logic gate.  There are many other types of command structures that carry out different functions and also different types of variables and replies.  For example, if you make use of "Boolean Logic" you may have to consider if a reply is THIS and THAT, THIS or THAT, or neither THIS nor THAT-and much like the IF and ELSE structure I have typed above, there are commands executed depending on which of the replies is received at the logic gate.  So an example would be if you have to have a certain item and talk to a certain person in a game before you can proceed, the game will not allow you through until those criteria are met.  Notice also the indentation of the lines of code above...It's VERY VERY important to have them line up exactly and type exactly in the correct syntax, or your program wont compile (won't work, or even run.)  Notice that the IFs and ELSEs are lined up vertically?  It's because the IF is literally the opening, and the ELSE is the closing.  This is why people refer to computers as having a binary code of 1s and 0s.  The way these are structured needs to have a definite yes or no, or, 1 or 0 to proceed in the way encoded.  Computers can not recognize what you meant, or understand that you just missed a period or whatever else may come up in typing, so it just wont compile-and that can be soooo frustrating.  Pretty much, it's quite tedious and you really have to cross your T's and dot your I's.

These structures can get very long and very complicated, depending on what your program is designed to do, but overall what I just described is computer programming and computer science in a nut shell.

I just watched a double sided DVD featuring Over the Top and Demolition Man.  Awesome, old school Stallone.  For anyone who hasn't seen them....Over the Top, is a movie about a trucker who competes in arm wrestling matches for money-anyone see the potential for some serious Stallone machismo? (the story is more in depth than that, but I don't wanna give anything away.)

Then there's Demolition Man...in the years following LA's 1990's gang wars and civil unrest, the old society is laid to waste.  A "savior" emerges, establishing an utopia where crime and violence are virtually non-existent.  But when a psychopathic killer from the past escapes from a cryogenic prison, who can save this unprepared society???  Enter Stallone, a disgraced policeman, sentenced to cryogenic detention, only to be released to save the day!

Both awesome movies, but in different ways.  If you want a Karate Kid type of movie with some corny sentiment and some training montages, definitely check out Over the Top.  If you want something you can laugh at a bit more, it's Demolition Man.  Stupid one liners, explosions, innuendo and dozens of cliché's keep the interest peaked at the absurdity of many of the scenes.  If anyone is familiar with Waterworld, I compare these two directly.  With left-wing people generalizing right-wingers as selfish, dog-eat-dog, fossil fuel burning people who would let the world go to ruin (as we see in Waterworld) the right-wingers generalize left-wingers as overly PC, cowardly, idealist pansies who need to be protected rather than be self-sufficient (as we see in Demolition Man.)  It's as if someone leaning right ideologically saw Waterworld and was like, "Oh yeah?  Take that!"  or vice versa.

Anyway I'd recommend checking these titles out if you can.
(the story is more in depth than that, but I don't wanna give anything away.)

badnaruto90 :  Oh, I wouldn't say that anyone here can tell you if you're wrong or not on your feelings about Christmas.  The fact is, with all the shopping, wrapping and travelling involved, Christmas can be a real pain.  I'm not sure what your family situation is, but a lot of people have divorced parents, rifts or troubled history, family that live all over the place and all kinds of other things that make it a bit taxing.  I personally have a lot of travelling, going from house to house, lugging gifts around, etc. that just make it a real pain.

Even so, if you consider the spirit of Christmas and what it should be about, giving and togetherness, goodwill, etc. it's not about making yourself happy, but others.  I go through all the stuff I don't like about the holiday and making my rounds because I care about my family and friends and want to see them and be together on a day that's supposed to be special.  If nothing else, it could be considered an exercise in sacrifice and selflessness.  It's a virtue and a mark of a strong individual if you can sacrifice for others and feel happiness when seeing them happy.

I hope your Christmas went well.  I know mine had its trials, inconveniences and of course, even a little family drama-but I am overall glad I made the time to be together with my family and felt thankful that I have them.  Well, a happy Holiday Season to you, and don't feel bad about not being excited about Christmas.  Just look at it as a family obligation that you lovingly oblige if nothing else.

Whoa, am I understanding this right?  This is a thread for generous users to donate their extra vizzed to users needing some?  Well, if that's the case, I am in need of vizzed.  I would like to buy the PlayStation emulator from the item shop but currently only have 11,292 / 50,000 of the vizzed required.  If anyone would be so kind, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm specifically looking to play the Legend of Dragoon-which was an awesome game on PlayStation that came out about 2000.  For anyone who enjoys RPGs and doesn't mind a more or less linear progression in the game (less wandering around, more direct progression) this is an awesome game with an original story line and beautiful scenery.  It should also be mentioned that its not a typical turn based command attack structure either...its more about timing button sequences in a real time action during the battles-which is pretty cool once you get used to it.

Anywho, if anyone out there wants to be a good Samaritan, I'd be quite grateful.

smotpoker86 :
Very good point to contradict the idea of people coexisting with the dinosaurs.  If there were people living at the same time of the dinosaurs, and they were all killed off by some catastrophic event like a meteor collision, then we should expect to find human remains alongside them.

A pretty simple deduction to make, really.  But an essential piece of evidence for these claims.  I wish I'd have thought of that and brought it up in my last post.  Awesome name by the way!

Ha!  Dude, this is totally a great thread to start a discussion.

Many people are completely closed to the idea of Creationism due to formal education and the Theory of Evolution.  It is seldom that I hear people actually use passages in scripture to use as almost an historical record in regards to biological evolution, but Bravo!  This is a very interesting topic to ponder and post about.

I'm not necessarily saying that I think this is fact, but discussing the possibility of this as reality is very interesting.  No one ever (in an academic setting, anyway) even considers that Creationism is a theory that could hold scientific merit.  In the same way that evolution has some theories with scientific merit, and many unsubstantiated presumptions...I think that the same or very similar could be said of using creationism to explain the world.

I love that you brought up dragons, and aside from the bible, the dragon has been a symbol since ancient times.  They are peculiarly similar to dinosaurs, aren't they?  I don't think we ought to look for winged carnivores for proof, though.  I think that perhaps artists were told stories of other people's encounters, and the images we have all seen are simply composites of various descriptions (this is, of course, on the basis that the Bible can be used as a reliable historic record.)  Imagine hearing of a pterodactyl and an alligator.  There is some evidence written here in the Bible, but of course, many holes and not able to be proven as fact.  As far as the depth of fossilized remains and carbon dating....now I'm not a historian, anthropologist, philanthropist, forensic scientist, archaeologist or whoever else might be an expert on the subject-but as I understand it, Carbon is the basis for life in this planet.  It has four valence electrons which very easily bond to Oxygen and Hydrogen atoms to create polar molecules.  These polar molecules enable the flow of electricity through molecular matter, enabling electrochemical energy and thus, life.  I can only suppose that Carbon dating is based upon an algorithm, or exponential function (presumably similar to Newton's Law of Cooling) of how readily and to what extent all of the molecules present in a sample have bonded with other elements.  I think that this, too, could be subject to error and render it a theory as opposed to fact...

With regards to the depth beneath the soil, the dinosaurs were presumed to be killed off by a meteor hitting the Earth, disrupting weather patterns, killing by impact and...fallout.  Lots and lots of fallout.  Is it possible that scientists are given an average depth to expect to be yay deep as a rate or constant given normal levels of erosion and accumulation and that an event like a meteor strike may very well throw enough fallout into the atmosphere to render the figures used inaccurate?  And as for Carbon dating...if my assertions are true about how the science works, then I have to bring up that within systems of reactants, there is energy and pressure.  In some reactions, like bonding, pressure can greatly affect rates of reaction between the reagents-and in the universal fact that energy may only be transferred and never lost or destroyed...this means that it would affect rates of reaction-rendering rates used in determining age based off of the before mentioned technology inaccurate as well.

I'm not asserting that this is fact, and if anyone else knows more specific or accurate information about how things like carbon dating are calculated-I'd love to know.  I'm just using some scientific reasoning to dispute the other theory if we're to use the Bible and ancient cultural texts as historically accurate texts.

Hey Steve.

I'm still pretty new compared to a lot of people on here, but Welcome!  I'm a big RPG gamer myself (if you couldn't tell by username.)  But I also love sidescrollers and shooters too.  So, what do ya like to play?

I spend most of the time playing on here, but you can gain a lot of vizzed posting and trying to be social-plus, there are a lot of people on here that could help you out if you had any questions.

Well, welcome.  See ya around!

Mwa ha ha!

Hmmmm......

I guess I'm curious about what it really matters if you have a profile with really high stats and all the highest level weaponry and armor.  Are there any actual advantages?  I mean, it doesn't affect gameplay at all, does it?

Also, when the Sword of Vizzed or Shield of Vizzed say, "Status set to Vizzed for entire..." something or other, what does that mean?  Are there times when profiles battle one another or something?

I actually love all of these cartoons, but I'm gonna have to go with South Park on this one.

Simpsons is an old favorite that I'll always love, but in recent years it seems its attempts at humor relating to current issues have been unimaginative and well...just not really funny.  The art is probably the best out of all of them, but even that doesn't live up to its glory years these days.

Family Guy is funnier than Simpsons currently are, but the jokes are extremely blunt and not what I'd call clever in any way.  The music can be pretty good, though.  Not only are some well composed, but can also be very creative.  Their renditions of old musicals (road to Rhode Island) are also done well-as are their Star Wars episodes.

South Park is just awesome.  While the artistic aspects are the weakest (except for some episodes involving backgrounds like Imagination Land) the humor and topical aspects are the strongest.  They have original music pertinent to the story, that's both funny and not without some musical merit.  Remember "Burn Down Hot Topic? or "Gay Fish?  Awesome!  Totally a great impersonation of a Cure/Smiths/Joy Division style as well as that Kanye West crap that fit the stories well.  And then there are the jokes.  They've actually addressed the other two within their own cartoons.  They've talked about how the Simpsons have been on for over 20 years and have taken up so many ideas "Simpson did it!" as well as talk some s*** about Family Guy using interchangeable jokes that do nothing to enrich the plot.  Whereas, there are longer, more clever conceptual jokes in South Park.  Remember the atheism episode where Cartman discovers intra rectal digestion?  The whole point of the episode was that if you totally denounce all religion, you end up a stupid atheist with a bunch of s*** coming out of your mouth.  I never would have seen that coming, but right at the end-Bam!  It was all one big point they were making, and I thought they did it cleverly.  And with episodes like Butters' Bottom b**** involving sting operations and entrapment, they expressed their views without preaching-and it was hilarious!  They just do the best job in relating news, culture and everyday life experiences in a way that's still relevant AND cleverly funny.
