As we all probably know, Asteroids is an arcade game that was originally released at the dawn of the 1980's. And I guess it's pretty safe to say that we all know that there's been a few versions of this classic game released to a few of the home consoles on the go at the time, namely the Atari 2600, 5200, and 7800. These are all pretty good renditions of the arcade game and are all highly addictive games to play.

This leads into the $50'000 question of the day ( not really): Which version of Asteroids would you rather play? Would you rather sit down with the classic arcade version with it's vector based graphics and Jaws inspired musical theme? Or would you rather hunker down in front of your computer or TV and take a stab at any of the Atari console versions with their sprite based graphics? There are no specific answers I'm looking for in particular; I'm just curious to see what people are preferring when it comes to this game.

Also, If there's any other home console or computer versions that exist out there, do not hesitate to let me know. I am always on the lookout for more old school games to play that I missed out on.

Cheers to all my fellow gamers. I'm looking forward to your opinions.

TheFadedWarrior : You should sit down and play it. Give it a shot. I'll bet you'll be very surprised.

mastersword2799 : This is most definitely a walkthrough game. And when I first played this game, it was definitely a Nintendo Power magazine type of game or a How To Beat Nintendo Games, where you'd have to buy those books and mags just to get an idea of what to do and where to go. Otherwise, it was 100% trial and error and you could spend endless frustrating hours going in circles in a vain attempt to find out what to do next.

mariomon64 : I kind of like this game. It has it's fair share of problems, but overall I think it's pretty cool. Plus, you have to give the designers and programmers a lot of credit for adding some new elements to the series, like the side scrolling sequences and RPG elements like towns and MPC's, instead of just merely copying the first game verbatim.

kramer4077 : Spot on review, my man. Spot on. And while I agree with you that the game does have a few little flaws here and there, the addictiveness and fun factor of this game definitely compensates that, which in the long run is worth it.

Last game I beat recently was The Magic of Scheherzade for the NES. I beat this RPG/action hybrid game several times as a kid, and just a couple days ago I sat down and played it just to see if I could remember all the secrets and tricks in it. Took me about 3 or 4 days to finish it.

Anybody out there remember this game? Please drop me a line if y'all do

davidtron7 : 100% correct sir. This game is extremely frustrating to play. The one thing I really, really HATE about this game is the fact that every time you are hit by an enemy, you are knocked back oftentimes into the waiting path of ANOTHER enemy, which will drain your Hit Points right down to zero in one lethal combo.

The second really annoying thing is that you only get one life to play as. And every time you die you go back to the very beginning of the game, which means you end up seeing a lot of the same rooms over and over which gets old really fast.

Finally, your weapon is too weak. It seems like it takes about 10-20 hits to kill the simplest of enemies. And what's worse is that you cannot throw more than one sword at a time in rapid fire fashion. You have to wait until your projectile either goes off screen or hits an enemy character

I really like action/adventure type games, and I really wanted to get into this one. But the many design flaws this game has makes that near impossible. If I were to rate it, I'd give it a 5 out of 10.

endings : I just finished reading said article. It's a pretty good article. Funny too. I especially liked the part where the writer describes mothers "accidentally" throwing away or burying the action figure in the garden. I can totally see somebody's mom doing that. I can see my mom doing that if I had that smelly action figure LOL.

Anubris : Could have been a lot better. Maybe if a company like Konami or Capcom had a hand in developing it, this game would not have been such a fiasco that it became. Such a shame, really.

magimangr : I also liked the cartoon as a lad, though I've never seen the live action movie. I'm actually surprised that somebody like Michael Bay has yet to do a remake of this series.

My favorite thing about the cartoon? The theme music. Seriously, if that theme dosen't get you pumped up, you must be dead lol.

G@mehe@d : This has to be the best home version of Pac-Man that I've ever played. It is even better than the Atari 5200 version of the game which I thought was the definitive home version. Until I played this one. Everything about it, from the graphics, to the sound, and the game play is pure class. It's quite apparent that a lot of time and effort went into the programming and designing of this game. It's a shame it was never officially released for the Colecovision, as I feel it would have saved the system from an early demise after the so called video game crash.

I think the oldest article of clothing I still wear on occasion is a beyond worn out San Jose Sharks T-shirt. I 've had the thing since  high school, which I finished over 20 years ago. It's so thin and transparent that you could strain spaghetti with it. I've been meaning to throw it out but I never can get around to it. It always ends up in the hamper and back in my closet rather than in the trash bin, where it belongs lol.

Looks like TNA is going to go the way of the dodo bird after their TNA Impact show gets cancelled. If there is no TV show, then there can be no way that TNA can survive, let alone compete with the WWE as well as ROH. Look for the WWE to buy them out, take the best of their talent, and distribute it among their three different brands.

It's too bad that TNA wrestling is going to die soon because I really did like their in ring product. The six sided ring they used to have was really cool, the X Division was amazing , and the TNA Knockouts were awesome to watch. They could totally kick the collective butts of the WWE Divas for sure.

Cid : I think I know the name of the song that you are referring to. It's called "Tribute" and the band who performed it is Tenacious D. It's a cool song but the video is even better.

Mine would be "Hellraiser" by Ozzy Osbourne. Back when this album came out, me and my friends would listen to this song in particular and come to the agreement that it should have been used as a wrestler's theme song for when he or she would walk down the aisle and towards the ring. It's a shame that no one(as far as I know) used this tune. Not even in ECW, and they did use songs by actual bands.

I have two. The first one is Double Dragon (The NES versions) and Golden Axe for the Sega Master System and later, the Sega Genesis. I have been playing them for well over 20 years now and I still find them extremely addictive. Running left to right and beating up on your hapless foes is always a fun way to kill a few hours.

Megaman 2 is my favorite. The music is killer and the gameplay is just right. Not too hard to be frustrating but not too easy to get bored with.
