Ps, if you need to manually index sprites (for whatever reason, such as with working with other types of sprites), you can download IrfanView to do it. 1. Open up the image using IrfanView. 2. Go to "Image" in the bar at the top, and select the "Decrease Color Depth..." option. 3. Select the "16 Colors (4 BPP)" option and UNCHECK the tickbox for the option that says "Use Floyd-Steinberg dithering (for max. 256 colors)". If you don't uncheck that tickbox, it'll mess up your sprite badly and make it look very pixelated. 4. Save the image, and I suggest as a seperate file named something like "[SpriteName]Indexed". 1. You won't even have to index the sprites if you download this and follow my instructions: http://filetrip.net/gba-downloads/tools-utilities/download-advanced-series-f9563.html Advanced Series: A set of tools used to edit Pokemon battle sprites and icons, as well as correcting battle positions for custom/fakemon inserted in the game. 1. Download the toolkit I posted above this set of instructions. 2. Open up the Advanced Pokemon Sprite Editor program after unzipping the file. 3. Load your rom into the program. 4. In the dropdown box under "Species Name:", look for the Pokemon sprites you want to replace. You can also use their Gen III national pokedex number. 5. Go to "File>Export Image" at the top and save it. Edit your sprites into it using GIMP, Photoshop, Paint dot Net, etc. With the normal front sprite in the first 64x64 block, the shiny version in the second 64x64 block, the normal back sprite in the third 64x64 block, and the shiny back sprite in the fourth and final 64x64 block. Save the sprite. 6. Click the "Edit" button and click the "Import All" button. 7. Click the "Synchronise Palettes" button and then click the "OK" button. 8. Click the button that says "Find Free Space". See the offset that appears under "Write to Offset:"? Copy that into the "Start Offset:" field and click "Set Write Offset". For example: I got the offset 0x1F7F44. So, in the "Start Offset:" field, I typed in 0x1F7F44. Click the button that says "OK", and exit the program. You're done. Hopefully, if you followed my instructions, your sprite came out fine http://filetrip.net/gba-downloads/tools-utilities/download-advanced-series-f9563.html Advanced Series: A set of tools used to edit Pokemon battle sprites and icons, as well as correcting battle positions for custom/fakemon inserted in the game. 1. (Junnin, and such is credited to MagesPages as these are originally his ideas.) I'm working on a Pokemon FireRed Version rom hack named Pokemon MysticAurelian Version based off of the artwork of MagesPages (later known as PokePages). A gallery of his stuff can be seen here: ( http://imgur.com/a/mdQMp#0 and here: http://imgur.com/a/mJ8hT#6 ) Screenshots below, and please excuse the poor quality of some of the gallery art, MagesPages took down his art a few years ago for no known reason and it's now scattered all over the internet. As for anybody wondering about the rights of my usage of his art, he hasn't been around for years. He disappeared around 2008-2009, removed all of his art from his old dA account (aside from the 500x500 pieces scattered around the internet), deactivated his newer dA account, and even shut down his email listed on his new dA account (you get an "invalid recipent" and such), so I'm pretty much in the clear. He's getting credit, of course. A basic synopsis of Pokemon MysticArelian Version: *Is set in a new region named Junnin, with +80 new Pokemon. The region is somewhat influenced by Australia. *The professor's name is Pine, who works in a wild-life reserve and studies Pokemon ecology. Instead of the hero/herione and their rival getting their starter Pokemon from Pokeballs, they instead have hatched from Pokemon eggs and start out at level 1. *The three starter Pokemon are the Small-Leaf Pokemon Eucuwala (A highly social green koala bear Pokemon, with physical oriented stats), the Swinging Pokemon Kindlemur (An agile lemur Pokemon, with speed oriented stats), and the Fin Pokemon Dimetrus (An aquatic dimetrodon Pokemon, with physical and special defensive oriented stats). *The main villainous team of the region is named Team Zodiac, and aside from grunts, spies, and scientists, is split into 12 sub-admins based off of the western zodiac and a main admin, based and named after Ophiuchus. They are after the legendary Pokemon Orakey, said to hold all of the answers to the universe. The sub-admins appearances, personalities, and type speciality (if any) are based off of their respective zodiacs. For example, Sub-Admin(s) Pisces are actually male and female twins, specialize in Water and Ice type Pokemon, and have a bad habit of interrupting each other. Input desired! Spoiler:
1. Which existing starters should stay in the rom hack, Gen I, Gen II, Gen III, Gen IV, or Gen V? What I was going to do was offer two sets of starters mid-game to late game as six different in-game trades. You can pick one of the six trades, but the rest vanish once you do. The set you didn't pick is then offered as a reward for a post-game quest. 2. Which Pokemon do you think should stay, if any in particular? Your suggestion(s) doesn't have to be before Generation IV. If you suggest a Pokemon, should there be any changes made? Like new moves, via egg moves, level, tm, tutor, etc. Base stats, ability changes, balancing, etc. Nothing un-nessasary though please, constructive changes only. The list below is a reserved slots list, due to pre-evo/new-evo plans based off of MagesPages' source art: Tropius (pre-evo) Aerodactyl (pre-evo) Murkrow (pre-evo) Honchkrow (included because previous evolution has a new pre-evo) Mr. Mime (evo) Skarmory (pre-evo) Riolu (split-evo, technically sort of...female versions, like miltank and tauros) Lucario (split-evo, technically sort of...female versions, like miltank and tauros) Smoochum (included because it's evolution has a new evo) Jynx (evo) Omanyte (evo) Omastar (evo) Smeargle (pre-evo) Tangela (pre-evo) Tangrowth (included because previous evolution has a new pre-evo) Sneasel (pre-evo) Weavile (included because previous evolution has a new pre-evo) Phanpy (included because it's evolution has a new evo) Donphan (evo) (might remove, MagesPages drew the art for this as a request, and the requester doesn't support projects that use an artist's work without permission) Sableye (evo) 3. What should the heroine look like? Hair style? Hair color? Clothes? Such as what type of shoes? What sort of t-shirt? Any accesories such as like watches? What color should her backpack be? 4. What should the rival be like and look like? What should be the default name(s)? What sort of personality? Snooty and cocky like Gen I's rival? Cruel and antagonistic like Gen II's rival? Friendly like the later generation rivals? A composition/something more complex? Any motives or goals they have? Any particular past events in their lives? Hair style? Hair color? Clothes? Such as what type of shoes? What sort of t-shirt? Any accesories such as like sunglasses? 5. See this map below? It has a list of numbered markers, which are unknown/un-named areas. Any ideas of what each of these areas should be, what sort of Pokemon they have available (including of the regional dex; http://imgur.com/a/mdQMp#0, so please look at that before listing any suggested Pokemon!), what purpose should they fill, etc? (ignore 21, that's the Junnin Pokemon League) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5899974/Graphics/Pokemon%20Rom%20Hack/Misc/JunninMapUnknownAreasMarkers.png Starter Stats (input desired) Spoiler:

You wouldn't be able to change the title screen without hacking it. Predetermined names? Far as I know, no program I've seen do that, other than obviously use a hex editor. Change storyline? Use a hex editor to edit the text. Changing music without sappy? Sappy is pretty much I think the only way. All of these files are the latest versions and are clean, so no viruses, spyware, or trojans. Make sure you have both COMCTL32.OCX and COMDLG32.OCX in your Advance Text folder. Right click Advance Text and select "Run as administrator". Also, I don't recommend using it to edit Pokemon GBA text. It's not buggy or anything but it has a tendency to corrupt your rom easily. Instead, learn how to use a hex editor with a table to edit the text instead. Also, I don't recommend using it to edit Pokemon GBA text. Actually, let's think about the ethnicities of the people who make these Pokemon games, or more specifically, Japanese culture. While Lavender Town (along with many of the creepy Ghost type Pokedex entries, but come on...THEIR GHOSTS, they're supposed to be scary) qualifies as creepy pasta or horror, Kanto is based off of a region of Japan like the other games in the series. I'm getting to my point, so hold your horses. Lavender Town exists because the Japanese hold quite a lot of respect for the dead, they honor them, and build shrines in their remembrance. Does Lavender Town make more sense now, hmm? Off-Topic Note: The same thing goes for the Japanese and FF6/FF10. Many Japanese are born Shinto, have Christian weddings, and have Buddhist rites and funerals, so they take in religion differently. The Japanese (during earlier periods in history, when foreigners came to Japan) refused to convert to Christianity, because it clashed with their people, culture, and even the way the Emperor ruled. Now, it makes sense why FF6 is so anti-religion, and FF10 treats organized religion as something big and evil. Kirby 64, hands down. It has some great music, and very memorable cutscenes. |

Velociraptor, man. Those things are darn scary. I still remember when Grant scared that fat kid in the beginning of Jurassic Park with his story and the velociraptor claw. Nope, I use 12 character randomly generated passwords, all with random lowercase/uppercase, numbers, and symbols, if the last is allowed. My mom uses incredibly weak passwords...I'm thinking of hacking into her gmail (it isn't technically hacking since her gmail credentials ended up in my LastPass on accident), to scare her and teach her a lesson. Very sorry for the delay guys, but it's awesome to be greeted so nicely by all of you. I've been a little busy, with a Pokemon rom hack pet project of mine (using FR as a base). In short, here's a list of progress: *Custom "THIS IS A ROM HACK, SALE OF IT IS ILLEGAL!" message replacing the gamefreak/nintendo text at the very beginning *Fully hacked title screen *Custom intro sprites for Oak, Hero/Heroine, and Gary *Fully edited starters replacing Gen I starters, the Grass starter Eucuwala (green koala-bear like Pokemon), the Fire starter Kindlemur (a lemur like Pokemon, kind of), and the Water starter Dimetrus (an aquatic dimetrodon Pokemon), along with high-quality 16-bit animal cries inserted to replace the low quality 8-bit GBA cries using Audacity+Sappy+FSF+a hex editor. In fact, here's Dimetrus' cry: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5899974/Audio/DimetrusCry.wav MoblinGardens: As much as I support emulation, I think it's a better choice to buy games to support the companies/teams that make them. *Custom "THIS IS A ROM HACK, SALE OF IT IS ILLEGAL!" message replacing the gamefreak/nintendo text at the very beginning *Fully hacked title screen *Custom intro sprites for Oak, Hero/Heroine, and Gary *Fully edited starters replacing Gen I starters, the Grass starter Eucuwala (green koala-bear like Pokemon), the Fire starter Kindlemur (a lemur like Pokemon, kind of), and the Water starter Dimetrus (an aquatic dimetrodon Pokemon), along with high-quality 16-bit animal cries inserted to replace the low quality 8-bit GBA cries using Audacity+Sappy+FSF+a hex editor. This was one of the best movies I saw last year. Finally a video game movie that gets the source RIGHT, at least in general. A sequel sounds wonderful, actually. |

Robo, hands down. He's so amusing, and he's also fairly useful in battle. I still fondly remember him sadly questioning his existance in the ending. |
