When it comes to playing console games I honestly prefer the original hardware. Its harder for me to appreciate these games when using an emulator because I always know that I can jump to something else in seconds. Whereas with original hardware, you have to stick the media in the console and as such you are making some kind of commitment. The story is a bit different with PC stuff. Getting original PC hardware for MS-DOS games is EXPENSIVE. So I honestly don't mind using DOSbox for MS-DOS games. Of course being someone who owns an older machine for MS-DOS games (and windows 9x games) its a much cooler experience to use the original hardware, but its rather impractical as it takes up a lot of space. My PC is pretty good for gaming, most game 2013 and below run at a sold 60FPS maxed out. However being that my graphics card is a GTX 750 Ti. Its starting to show its age. The frame-rates for games from 2014 and 2015 are usually in the 30s range, that's okay. Its still better then the consoles. However being that my graphics card is a GTX 750 Ti. I think it sounds neat, but it probably won't take off for a while for a wide number of reasons. 4K is just now starting to take off, and even then it still needs to get better support. You need insanely fast internet to stream 8K content, its hard enough to stream 4K video. Games on consoles are still struggling to reach 1080P, even high end gaming PC's can't maintain solid frame rates at 4K. 8K will definitely be a thing someday, but for now. I would salivate over the 4K TV's as those resolutions are already pushing boundaries. 4K is just now starting to take off, and even then it still needs to get better support. I have a lot of unpopular gaming opinions here are a few. The SNES sound chip isn't very good. Sure it can play samples but they don't sound clear. They sound like they are being played under a pillow (though I do like Final Fantasy 3's OST) I prefer the much clearer and more electronic sounding Genesis sound chip. I like Duke Nukem Forever (on PC) I think Halo isn't very good (the original) the level design is really bland and the environments are way too big. The game just feels generic. I liked the Thief reboot. Fallout 3 is not very good. Bland world, muddy textures (even for the time) lifeless characters, dreadful combat, really slow gameplay. In fact I think ALL Bethesda games are overrated. I can see the appeal in these games but why do people overlook how technically broken they are? The SNES sound chip isn't very good. I don't have any rare/expensive console games, but I do have a lot of old PC games. Old PC games usually don't go for much (no one really knows their value which is why I collect them more then console games) but they are lot more rare then some of the more expensive console games. |

Technically the first console I played was the GameCube, but I rarely ever got to play it. The first console I actually owned, was the Sega Genesis. It was originally my step-dads but he gave it to me and I still have that same console. It's my favorite console of all time and if it were not for that system I wouldn't be the gamer I am today. |

My favorite controller is the Sega Saturn model 2 controller. The D-pad is perfect, and its really comfortable to hold. Sure, its basically the same thing as the Genesis 6 button controller with shoulder buttons, but Sega just improved it with the Saturn model 2 controller. |

I hope around on my 15 consoles as each one has something different to offer. If I want to blow crap up I play on my Genesis, if I want some good collectathons I play on my N64, if I want great racing games I stick with my Saturn. It really depends on what mood I'm in. |

This isn't really a big deal, I knew it was going to happen some day. I don't use my Wii for internet purposes, I play games with online on it. My PS3 and 360 already do that better. I don't use my Wii for internet purposes, I play games with online on it. My PS3 and 360 already do that better. |

Tomb Raider is an interesting game. It was released during an awkward period of gaming when sharp playable side scrollers were being turned into messy, and ugly 3D platformers. Tomb Raider was one of the first 3D games to truly get that feeling of freedom nailed down. It was released slightly after Super Mario 64, but where that game featured unrealistic worlds and controls. Tomb Raider has a more realistic world, and thus feels more satisfying and more like a real adventure. I like Mario 64, but I like this game more. Gameplay B+: Tomb Raiders controls take some getting used to. Lara, the main character, controls like a tank. When used properly, this style of control isn't bad. Soon you will be jumping on platforms, and avoiding traps with ease. The levels are designed with this limited control scheme in mind. So it never becomes annoying. Still, it can make combat a chore, and usually results in cheap deaths. So you have to plan out your jumps and moves. Levels are separated into tombs, which offer plenty of puzzles to solve, traps to dodge, and monsters to fight (fighting that T-Rex in level 3 was one of the most memorable sights I have ever seen). The levels are quite well designed, they do a good job at keeping confusion at a minimum, while invoking a very ancient atmosphere. Later tombs, while well designed. Can take longer than an hour to beat on your first try. Yes, that's too long. Thankfully, save crystals are all over the levels. So as long as you plan out your saves, getting through each level isn't really a chore. If not, be prepared to do lots of backtracking. Graphics (Playstation B Saturn B+ PC A): Considering the release date (1996) and the hardware this game was on (PS1, Saturn, PC). Tomb Raiders graphics have held up decently over the years. The tombs are packed with detail, and feel like they were designed by real ancient civilizations. The textures for the PS1 version (the one I have) are decent, though pixelated. They tend to move around and sometimes straight up disappear.I once got stuck on one of the polygons! The framerate for PS1 holds up, but when a big, open area crosses your path. The framerate drops. The Saturn port is identical to the PS1 version minus the texture issues, a slightly lower resolution and it has better colors and lighting. The PC obviously looks the best with smooth textures, a more stable frame rate and smooth models. Though this is only if you have an older machine with a 3DFX voodoo card installed. Though there are DOS-BOX configurations that have emulated Glide API support. The cut scenes look like 90's computer animation, in a bad way. Still they do pack a punch. Sound A+: The music only comes on occasionally, but when it comes on its good. It provokes such a good atmosphere and plays during the right times. The game is mostly silent to invoke the feeling of mystery and loneliness. The sound effects work, nothing to really say there. Depth A+: Tomb Raider is a big game. With lots of levels each with a lot of depth and complexity. Overall Tomb Raider gives you a lot for your buck and it will give you hours of exploring tombs and finding treasures and secrets. Overall Rating: A- Tomb Raider as a whole has held up pretty well over the years. Its a big game that I recommend you get for your PS1, Saturn, and preferably the PC. I agree with you. The Wii U should have been released later, not only for Nintendo to make more games, and to get more 3rd party support. But to make hardware revisions and do research on what the general consumers would want, along with what the hardcore gamers would want. The only problem with this, is that if Nintendo waited and didn't improve the hardware, the Wii U would sell just as poorly as it is doing now. Not only would the hype of the PS4 and Xbox One ruin the Wii Us hype (much like the PS2 did with the Dreamcast). Even though the hardcore gamers know that games are what make a system. The general consumer is going to get carried away with the specs, and sadly gimmicks. That is why the PS4 and Xbox One are doing well, they have a nice thick layer of frosting, but a very nasty cake hidden inside. They are designed around what the general consumer would want, and as a result they both sell like hot cakes. |

I do, but I have never played the first 2 games. I have only played the 3rd game. I still enjoy it though, I like riding the rides, and building giant roller coasters. Its amazing how graphically impressive it is. The game can place 100s of people on screen at once with slowing down your computer (at least my 2008 gaming PC) granted the people have an extremely low polygon count but that's not the point. These games have great gameplay, and I would rather play this then any other manager game. |

Even if the game is really interesting to me, I still wait until the price drops dramatically if its a triple A title. I just can't afford to pay 60 dollars for one game. Especially with all the DLC and micro-transactions, I still need money in my pockets for mandatory stuff like that. |
