Here we goooooo!!
Introduction

Welcome to my review of Super Mario 64, one of my favorite games of all-time, and it has been for several years! It was my first 3D Mario game I ever played. I fell in love with the unique gameplay it offers. Here’s what makes this game so legendary and lovable!

Story
7/10

Princess Peach got kidnapped again. But this time, she had baked a cake for Mario first, so it’s original. Well at least there’s an interesting plot with how Mario has to save her. He has to get Power Stars that unlock doors and keys that unlock different parts of the castle. He has to get 70 stars to break the curse of the endless stairs so he can face Bowser for the third time in the game.

Graphics
9/10

It blows my mind how this game looks. Again, I had never played a 3D Mario game before playing this, so I couldn’t believe I was seeing everything in 3D and playing these huge worlds. I love the detail on these enemies especially King Whomp and… ooh Bowser looks COOL! Too bad I have to fight him, right?

I still enjoy looking at the attention to detail in the backgrounds and other graphics for these courses. Wet-Dry World has a neat city background, and Rainbow Ride has rainbows everywhere for some reason! The stars are pretty, and it is so satisfying to grab one of those shiny yellow stars. Certain graphics such as the signs are nothing special, but that’s fine. The designers of this game clearly tried.

Animation
8/10

I really like the special effects this game has to offer, such as the sparkly-thingies that accompany Mario when he returns from a course. Mario’s movement is nice, and many animations make things in this game exciting. Riding on a Koopa shell is so hype! What an amazing explosion it is when Bowser hits a bomb. BOOM!!!

My only problem with the animation in this game is that certain things either don’t appear or don’t look right when they a... Read the rest of this Review

The Wii Sports Expansion Pack... Just Kidding
Introduction

Welcome to my review of Wii Sports Resort! This is a fun “sequel” to Wii Sports. Fun fact: I didn’t have this game until only a couple years ago. Then when I got it from the lovely GameStop store, it didn’t work. So I had to get a different copy. Anyway!... this game is pretty cool I guess. I have occasionally played this with friends, and it’s been fun. So I’ll explain why this game is fun and sometimes compare it to the original Wii Sports!

Graphics
8/10

I am impressed that this game’s graphics are so shiny. And the attention to detail with the beach resort theme is quite nice. It gives this game a good vacation feel. I love the style of my Mii’s vacation shirt. I like the pretty view that I can see while playing table tennis. Most of all, I enjoy seeing the pop cans on the table tennis table that I can smack with my ball, and I enjoy seeing the nighttime 3-pointer basketball contest! Never thought a nighttime sports event in a game could look so good! These graphics aren’t perfect, but there aren’t a lot of horrible flaws with them either.

Animation
8/10

Some animation in this game is a little lacking in my opinion, such as when the pop cans are hit in table tennis. Not that I expect them to spontaneously combust, but it could be better and more funny. I really like the animation in this game though. The game starts off strong with the Miis being in an airplane and skydiving. That scene entertained me when I started playing the game for the first time! Good job to the creators of this game for how nice the table tennis animations are! Those are probably my favorite. A close second would be the fireworks in the 3-point contest. It’s so satisfying when I play the return challenge and whack the CPU in the face with a ball a ton of times (don’t judge me), and even greater when I spike that ball! It’s cool that there are fireworks when I make a bucket in basketball ... Read the rest of this Review

I thought Mii's always had arms and legs??
Introduction

Sliding into this game review like WIIIIIIIIII!!! Alright Wii need to move on from these overused puns. Welcome to my review of one of the video games I have the most memories of! Wii Sports is a simple game with 5 sports to play by yourself or with friends. Most of my memorable moments playing Wii Sports were with a friend or a few friends.

I have had this game for 10 years and have accomplished almost too much, but it’s still fun. What have I accomplished? Well, a couple platinum medals, 2000 skill points in tennis, and I’m at pro status in all sports… which doesn’t mean anything to me except for bowling but that’s alright.

The best thing about this game’s impact on my life is that it’s the subject of many jokes in my conversations with friends. So why’s this game so great? I thought you’d never ask…

Graphics
7/10

Wii Sports is for the Wii, so I’d say the graphics are good and not too basic… for the most part. I love how bright this game is! It makes me feel like I can still have a great day playing sports even when it’s raining or snowing outside. Baseball especially is such a summer vibe. I love seeing that digital sunlight especially when the ball is flying high in baseball!

The atmosphere of each sport is so fun. I love seeing the audience members (when they’re visible) and seeing the landscaping! These are the cleanest stadiums/arenas/alleys/whatever else I’ve ever seen. And they magically stay clean even when people are running around and whacking things and throwing things. Whichever Miis are mowing the grass for these places almost deserve a raise, but they also almost deserve to get fired because they keep mowing some grass and neglecting the rest. *stares at the golf hills in disappointment*

Now for what I really wanted to talk about… the weirdness of a lot of this game’s graphics. First of all, the Miis don’t have legs in m... Read the rest of this Review

Hey, vizzed members! I’m Pac and today I’m reviewing a should-sound-at-least-a-little-bit-familiar game called Pinball for the NES. Today, at long last, breaks my huge streak of reviewing nothing but Pac-Man games (I’m called Pac for a reason, yo). Enjoy the review and don’t be shy to give constructive criticism! I greatly appreciate it. It helps me make more fun-to-read reviews for you guys.

SOUND EFFECTS

10/10

I rated this a 10 because every sound is fun to hear, especially when the ball goes really fast and keeps hitting everything over and over! I struggled to pick a favorite sound effect since I love all of them a lot. But my favorite is the pause sound effect. It’s the same one as another NES game! Any guesses as to what that is? …No? OK, it’s Mario Bros! Yes, the original Mario Bros, copyright Nintendo. (At least I think so, my memory isn't too great)

MUSIC

10/10

I rated this a 10 because the title screen theme has me jamming to it every time in my chair. Yes, it actually does have me doing that, don’t question it. There aren’t any more themes, but for a basic Pinball game like this one, you shouldn’t have excessive music. It would ruin the gameplay. Even not having a game over theme is perfectly fine here in my opinion.

GRAPHICS

10/10

I rated this a 10 because, WAHOO! these graphics are cool all throughout. A few examples are seals, penguins, cards, and giant pink targets (and an orange one for good measure). There’s even a bonus room with Mario and “some girl”! You know I’m excited about that! (My username has Mario in it for a reason, yo)

ANIMATIONS

10/10

I rated this a 10 because all of these animations are fun to watch and I’d watch them more if I didn’t have a high score to set. One of my favorite animations is when the seals are... Read the rest of this Review

Review Preview

Hey, vizzed members! Today I’m reviewing the Sega Game Gear version of Pac-Attack, a funny puzzle game starring Pac-Man, the ghosts, and a whole lotta bricks. Enjoy this review and feel free to tell me what you thought of it!

MUSIC

9.6/10

I rated this a 9.8 because the title screen theme doesn’t get to play all the way through. Instead, the title screen shifts over to the top scorers screen and that song plays. The music greatly resembles the Game Boy version’s music. The notes sound nearly identical for the most part! However, the game over theme is faster than it’s supposed to be.
The music is upbeat but not loud, which is an interesting mix but it works so well here!

SOUND EFFECTS

9.8/10

I rated this a 9.8 because this game has wonderful sound effects! There’s a short one that plays when you click on a mode to choose. The other sound effects are pretty much normal but Sega added a sound effect for when a block hits the bottom.

The reason this isn’t a 10 is that... pause for a second... there’s no pause sound effect.

ADDICTIVENESS

8/10

I rated this an 8 because it’s very addicting but I could grow tired of it after a few weeks of playing it. I have never been a puzzle game guy but Pac-Attack happens to be one that I enjoy playing frequently. I find normal mode to have more replay value because I have to try hard to prevent the ghosts from piling up and I keep becoming more skilled at moving the blocks the right way.

STORY

To0 bad/10

Oh too bad so sad, this game has no story because it shouldn’t need one for you to have a jolly good time playing it. Keep reading!

DEPTH

10/10

I rated this a 10 because not only does it have plenty to do for one player, it also has a 2-player versus mode! So if you want other people to experience the same fun you... Read the rest of this Review

Bad re-Pac-tion time

Hey, vizzed members! Today I’m reviewing Ms. Pac-Man for the Sega Game Gear. Just like I did with the Game Boy version, I’m noticing that this is based off of the Namco NES version. Why, Sega? Whyyyyy would you do this to so many people?

GRAPHICS

10/10

I rated this a 10 because I like the different graphics and how each maze changes color. I think that the arcade version should have done the same thing, and it makes me happy to see that this version did. All the ghosts look very different from Pac-Man for the Game Gear. They’re back to being more tall than wide and Pinky looks a little more like he should. The fruits also look pretty nice.

The title screen logo is glittery and cool, and I really like the layout of the maze in the regular display. The lives, fruit, and score are all shown on the maze instead of beside it. The score is on top, the fruit is on the bottom, and Ms. Pac-Man’s lives count is right above the fruit.

½ mode looks really similar to how it does in the Game Boy/Game Boy Color versions. That’s a nice touch since both of those versions are good to play.

ANIMATIONS

8/10

I rated this an 8 because the cutscenes could be improved. In the 2nd cutscene, “The Chase”, we see Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man chase each other. How cute, right? Well, something is wrong. Their action does not go along with the music.

The cutscene transitions are off too. After completing level 2, I had to wait a couple seconds before the name of the cutscene appeared. Other animations such as the fruit bouncing were done well, though.

SOUND EFFECTS

5/10

I rated this a 5 because, Sega, let me ask you again: why? Every sound effect except the fruit bouncing is based off of the Namco NES version of Ms. Pac-Man. That wasn’t a wise decision because the Namco NES version is terrible. At least a good majority ... Read the rest of this Review

Get your game in gear, Pac-Man!
Review Preview

Hey, vizzed members! In this review, I will be talking about Pac-Man for the Sega Game Gear. Enjoy the review and don’t forget to leave some feedback if you want to.

GRAPHICS

9/10

I rated this a 9 because Pac-Man looks too pixilated in ½ mode, and slightly pixilated in the regular size screen. Other than that and Pinky being too dark, everything looks great and some things even look unique. The ghosts have a cool and different look in this version. They’re wider and in ½ mode, their eyes are ridiculously huge! XD

The layout for ½ mode is a good one because the maze takes up most of the screen and the score on the right is large enough to see without much effort. It looks like it should in a normal-sized game of Pac-Man.

The layout for regular sized mode is even nicer because everything is shown within the maze. The score is on the top right, the fruit is on the bottom right corner, and Pac-Man’s lives counter is right above the cherry. What’s impressive about that? Well, none of them block the maze much and they don’t take up too much space.

ANIMATIONS

9/10

I rated this a 9 because Pac-Man’s chomping animation bothers me in the first cutscene when he’s large. By the way, that cutscene seems to be foreshadowing the game Super Pac-Man! The other animations are lovable in my opinion. Pac-Man’s chomping animation is just fine in the regular mazes, so how come that couldn’t be the case in the first cutscene? And as Pac-Man himself would probably say, “Wakka wakka wakka wakka.” Oh sorry, I forgot to translate. “Go big or go home.”

MUSIC

10/10

I rated this a 10 because I love everything about this game’s songs! The pitch, notes, mood, and whatever else is so cool. Also, they don’t sound off-key at all, which is crucial for any conversion of a video ... Read the rest of this Review

Mappy, IT'S A TRAP!...y
Review Preview

Hey, vizzed members! I’m Pac and today I am reviewing Mappy for the Sega Game Gear. My last review lacked an original title but this time, I have one so the review will be 3 times better. What, why are you laughing? It is a fool-proof plan. You’re still laughing? Just… read the review…

GRAPHICS

7/10

I rated this a 7 because the graphics being so zoomed in isn’t an advantage. I’ll talk about what that means for me in the difficulty section, but this is a disadvantage for Sega as well. Zooming in the graphics makes them look bad because some of the graphics look ugly zoomed in so much. The main example is the doors when they’re open. They look like the inside of a 3 Musketeers bar. But the thing is, the 3 Musketeers bar looks better than that. Plus, you can’t eat a door and neither can Mappy.

The cats are too dark of a pink color but their boss, Goro, looks fine. Mappy looks great and he’s what looks better zoomed in. .I really like the Game Over screen because it shows a big picture of Mappy frustrated that he lost.
We don’t talk about those weird-looking items in the 2nd game. At least they’re visible, I guess.

ANIMATIONS

4/10

I rated this a 4 because just about everything is too slow. Mappy falling, bouncing (especially to the left or right), Goro hiding behind an item, it’s all slower than it should be. I like Mappy because it’s a fast-paced game, but this version isn’t. The color doors opening and blasting the cats happens like 3 times as fast as everything else, which is unfair to the player.

Other than the speed, some of the animations are well-done though, like Mappy falling which you have to watch a lot in the 2nd game because the levels are bigger/taller. My favorite one is Mappy spinning out of control and losing a life. Seeing his eyes bounce is hilariously good!

Pac reviews Namco Museum GBA
Review Preview

Hey, vizzed members! I’m Pac and I finally decided to review a game that isn’t centered entirely around Pac-Man or Ms. Pac-Man. However, this game does have the game Ms. Pac-Man in it! This is my review of Namco Museum for the Game Boy Advance. Alright, I’d better get started! Just a heads up, I’m not at all used to reviewing big collection games like this.

GRAPHICS

6.5/10

I rated this a 6.5 because every game looks good regardless of whether you compare it to its original game or not. Except for 2 games: Galaga and Galaxian. Why do they look so ugly and small? Sure, Ms. Pac-Man has a mode where the whole maze is crammed onto one screen, but only Ms. Pac-Man’s bow looks too pixel-y.

If Galaxian was more zoomed in (which it could be, the score part on the right is huge) it might look more like the original game. But no, Namco thought the score was more important to see than what you’re actually doing.
Galaga is the same way. The score part takes up a lot of space when it could be the part that’s scrunched up and it wouldn’t be too bad. All the enemies in both games look like they’re supposed to… if they were zoomed in. Here, it’s too ugly. It is difficult for me to play a game if I don’t like what I’m looking at.

ANIMATIONS

10/10

I rated this a 10 because all the animations look excellent. I think that’s because these games are pretty much the arcade versions converted to the Game Boy Advance. I sure am glad Namco decided to do that with the arcade versions and not the NES versions or something. That might turn out a little ugly, like Galaga and Galaxian’s graphics are!

The animations are a little weird to look at in the full screen mode of Ms. Pac-Man, but they all appear great and there isn’t anything that immediately captures my attention that looks terrible. Ms. Pac-Man ... Read the rest of this Review

Pac-MAN this game stinks!
Review Preview

Hey, vizzed members! The title says everything I have to say about this game so you can click away from the review now. Just kidding, this game is so bad that I have a ton to say about it. Read it all if you dare.

Today I am reviewing Pac-Mania for the Sega Master System, one of the worst Pac-Man games I have ever played. But obviously, I’m still willing to play it because I’m sitting here typing my fingers off to tell you about it. Alright, it’s time I get started!

SOUND EFFECTS

2/10

I rated this a 2 because there are sound effects, but none of them sound good! Some of them are pretty strange too, such as the dot-chomping sound. It’s low and annoying. Pac-Man chomps a ghosteater pellet and you get a sudden change of pitch, low to high! That sound is actually pretty funny, but that does not mean it’s good.

Pac-Man chomps a fruit and… wait, did you hear that? Me neither. I reset the game and leaned my ear towards my speaker. That noise was doing the limbo, seeing how low it could go. If you eat a dot right before eating a ghost, you would hear another sudden change of pitch!

Pac-Man’s dying sound is another low one with a dramatic high pitch at the end for whatever reason. It goes along with the animation, but that’s the only good thing about it.

The only sound effect that I wouldn’t want to replace is Pac-Man’s jump. It isn’t good, but it isn’t too bad either. That sound saved this category from being a 1!

Finally, there’s the pause sound effect. Oh yeah, there isn’t one. When you pause, it just freezes the screen like your browser froze or the emulator crashed. It doesn’t even say, “PAUSE”. Oh my goodness.

MUSIC

Cring3y/10

I rated this a 3 because this game might as well have no music; all of it is weird-sounding. The cutscene theme makes me t... Read the rest of this Review

I am Pac to this again
Review Preview

Hey, vizzed members! This time I’m reviewing, surprise, another Pac-Man game. But instead of a game featuring Pac-Man, this is Ms. Pac-Man for the Game Boy. As the title of the review says, I’m positive this version was heavily based off the NES version (the one by Namco, not Tengen). I’ll be pointing out its similarities in the review, but also focusing on what makes it great and unique. Enjoy the review!

GRAPHICS

8/10

I rated this an 8 because just about everything looks well-done. There isn’t an ugly strawberry in ½ mode like in the Game Boy version of Pac-Man. It looks nice in Ms. Pac-Man! There’s one thing that bothers me though. As I mentioned in my review of Pac-Man for the Game Boy, all the ghosts are the same color so you don’t know which is which. It takes some of the fun out of avoiding the ghosts. Namco could have made them black, dark gray, light gray, and light black.

Even Ms. Pac-Man’s bow doesn’t look terrible in ½ mode. If you don’t know what ½ mode is, I’ll describe it in the
difficulty section.

ANIMATIONS

10/10

I rated this a 10 because everything looks well-done here too, and it wouldn’t matter if it was in color or not for the animations. Ms. Pac-Man bites down all the way to eat the dots, the ghosts blink soon enough before they return to normal, and the cutscenes are animated well.

It amazes me how Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man open and close their mouths so much. How does that not tire them out? And Ms. Pac-Man’s bow never falls off her head. :o

MUSIC

6/10

I rated this a 6 because the lack of songs is lame. But seriously, 2 songs are missing! Normally it would be that each act/cutscene has their own song, but that isn’t the case here. The “They Meet” song plays for all of them. It sort of fits for all of them, but if yo... Read the rest of this Review

A Pac and white game, boy
Review Preview

Hey, vizzed members! As you can tell, this whole month I’ve been in the mood to review some Pac-Man games. This is yet another one: Pac-Man for the Game Boy.

Quick story: I played this version before I played the NES version. The website I played it on didn’t have sound, so I thought it was just the NES version but without colors and sound. Later on, I played the NES version and much later than that, discovered that this one was a different version!

Even though I reviewed the NES version of the game, I’m still torn between that one and this one being my favorite. I don’t think I’ll ever decide, so let’s get on with the whole review thing.

GRAPHICS

8/10

I rated this an 8 for multiple reasons, one of which is that the strawberry is ugly in ½ mode. Like I said in the intro, I used to think this was the NES version. I can still look at it now and understand why I thought that. Other than the maze scrolling in the regular display, it looks very similar to the NES game. However, some of the dots are missing! The ones in the original game that were closest to the ghosts’ box are now gone.

Even ½ mode, which is the whole maze squished into one view instead of scrolling, looks good. You can tell what everything is supposed to be, and Pac-Man is shaped correctly.

I actually like that this version has no color. For one thing, it allowed there to be a color version of the game on the Game Boy Color that includes Pac-Attack on it. Also, the lack of color gives it an added retro feel!

I realized a problem with the black and white (and gray) graphics: all 4 ghosts look the same. You can’t tell which one is which. If you knew that each ghost has specific strategies in the original, you’d see why that’s bothersome. I think Namco could have at least made each ghost a different shade of gray and introduced each ghost as ... Read the rest of this Review

Pac off, ghosts! Stop BLOCKing me!
Review Preview

Hey, vizzed members! Welcome to my review of Pac-Attack for the Game Boy, released in 1994 by Namco. Fun fact: I already reviewed Pac-Panic for the Game Boy. It’s the same thing but now I get to do a better job reviewing the other version. :D Now let’s get to the good stuff: the many categories. For those of you that haven't read a game review before, no this is not like Jeopardy. In game reviews, categories are just different aspects of the game I get to review XD

GRAPHICS

10/10

I’m not taking points off for the game being in black and white. That would be unfair because all Game Boy games are like that. I rated this a 10 because this game doesn’t need a lot going on for it to be good. The fonts are highly readable and the brick pattern in the background makes the game look less ordinary than it could. The logo on the title screen has the nice touch of Pac-Man for the C’s, which most Pac-Man games should have.

I like the simplicity of the graphics of the area where the actual gameplay occurs. It’s just the brick pattern, the blocks, and the ghosts.

ANIMATIONS

7/10

I rated this a 7 because the transitions aren’t smooth at all. In fact, they’re nonexistent. The screen just switches to the next, no fade-outs, fade-ins, spins, or anything cool. However, everything else is great and can be funny to watch! I like the blinking hand that points to the mode you want to choose. That isn’t there on the title screen, but it is in Normal Mode and Puzzle Mode.

Watching the ghosts’ eyes dart constantly is the definition of entertainment! Sometimes, it actually distracts me from the task I’m supposed to be completing. It gets better with the ghosts. They also spin, and open their mouths. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be yawning but it reminds me of it.

Another entertaining animation is watching Pac... Read the rest of this Review

A Pac-Fan Reviews Pac-Man
Review Preview

Hey, vizzed members! This time I’m reviewing an NES version of Pac-Man, the Tengen Unlicensed version to be specific. This dot-and-ghost-chomping classic has so many different versions, a good amount of which I’ve played, that I had to review at least one of them. This version was released in 1987, developed by Namco and published by Tengen.

Have fun reading about the game!

GRAPHICS

9.8/10

It’s a simple game with simple graphics. And NES games generally have simple graphics anyway, so that fits well. The title screen is a black background with the Pac-Man logo on top, and then aside from the arrow pointing to which player mode you want, the rest is just text. There isn’t too much going on or too little. If this was an expansive 3D game that would be lame, but this is a basic 2D game.

All the colors in the maze fit well with each other. None of them are too bright or too dark, even the pellets which, in the original game, were white. I prefer the dark yellow dots this game has, and I think it’s cool that they match Pac-Man! Pac-Man’s dark yellow color wouldn’t go well with the white since normally he is a brighter yellow.

The maze isn’t near as wide as the original game, but that’s fine. It is still similar enough.

Sadly, I couldn’t rate this category a 10 because Pinky looks more like light purple than Pink.

ANIMATIONS

10/10

Since nothing is miscolored in the animations, this gets a 10. Everything transitions smoothly and Pac-Man’s chomping is consistent. The ghosts blink for only a short time before they return to normal. The fruits appear out of nowhere like they’re supposed to, instead of fading in. That would be so weird and not cool.

When you sit on the title screen for too long, it takes you to a screen introducing the ghosts. Instead of showing everything at once, it ... Read the rest of this Review

Pac-Man in color? Oh yeah, that is normal
Review Preview

Hey, vizzed members! It’s the Pac-Fan Man here to review a 2-in-1 game called Pac-Man Special Color Edition, or Pac-Man & Pac-Attack! Namco released this game in 2000, the year I was born. Which gives me the perfect reason to take my time reviewing it!

Have fun reading this and hopefully playing some Pac-Man games afterwards!

GRAPHICS

8/10

The title screen isn’t all that great, it’s just a black screen with words on it and a Pac-Man logo. But the words “Special Color Edition” are gold with red all around them, matching the logo. The game select screen is no different. All it shows is the logos of the games, but the cool part is that 2 Pac-Men are pretty much pointing at each logo when you tap the arrow key to put them there.

When you select Pac-Man (the game), you’ll notice that the title screen and the game greatly resemble the Game Boy version except for the added color. This game was meant to be, as the title suggests, a colored version of that so it does what it was meant to. This also applies to Pac-Attack. However, there is a difference that I noticed. Pac-Man is shaped differently in this version. His mouth is wider, which looks wrong after playing the Game Boy version.

Most of the color choices in both games are very well-done and, in Pac-Attack, they’re bright and appealing! But in Pac-Man, one thing I don’t like is that the point values, that show when you eat a ghost, are dark blue. Dark blue on black is difficult to see, and I have pretty good vision.

The blocks in Pac-Attack look very cool. They have waves of color, transitioning smoothly from yellow to orange to red. Another plus about Pac-Attack is the intro. Multiple text colors are shown and the brick pattern is even.

In Pac-Man, the graphics don’t bother me, even the zoomed out sprites for ½ mode. We don’t talk about the ugly strawberry... Read the rest of this Review

The smallest test hack I have ever seen
Review Preview

Hey, vizzed members! I’m Pac and I’m about to review a super short test hack of Super Mario 64, called Super Mario 64 GP64. Why would I review something so short? Because I can and I wanted to. :D
I’m only going to be talking about the new things this hack has, not the rest of it. That would be silly.

GRAPHICS

5/10

The first level is good-looking but plain. The grass at the start is light green, the platforms are white and gray, and the rest of the grass is green. The walls of the hill are a mix of red and green colors that, from far away, look light brown. There’s a bright blue sky above the level. I think that with how simple the level itself is, it fits but it could be much better.

The 2nd level is a little less plain. The platforms aren’t all the same. The lava is a bright blue color that’s appealing to the eye, and one of the platforms is a dark blue with an interesting texture. The rest of the platforms and ground, though, are so basic. They’re white and gray without much texture to them. The best part, though, is the red lava-wall area. The bright red is also very good-looking and it isn’t too close to Mario’s red color. Finally, the sky is pitch black which emphasizes the brightness of the lava.
Finally, there’s the ending platform. It looks like a target but without a lot of rings. Plus, it’s gray and white, not just 2 shades of the same color.

MUSIC

7/10

The music for Course 1 is catchy and fast-paced but my problem with it is the fuzz sound throughout most of the song. It makes the notes sound like they’re blaring even though they aren’t that loud.
Course 2’s music sounds much better than Course 1’s. It sounds peaceful or sad, whichever way you look at it. I have heard multiple Super Mario 64 imports of the same song and this one sounds as good, if not better, than the ... Read the rest of this Review

Review Preview

Hey, users of vizzed! Welcome to another in-depth game review by Pac. This time I’m reviewing the NES version of Mappy, released in 1984 by Namco, one of the games I grew up with for a long time. I started out with the arcade version but grew to like this one better.

I’ll make my review simpler this time since lately I rambled too much about the graphics and sound for other games.
Enjoy my take on how great this classic is!

GRAPHICS

10/10

I’m starting this off with a perfect 10 right off the bat! The graphics are simple, clean, and they aren’t weirdly colored. In fact, there’s great attention to detail here. I’ll give a breakdown on what each item is in this game and what their point values are.

100 points: a red radio. I’ve seen black radios but never red ones so that’s cool.
200 points: a light blue and white TV. I’d want a TV with those colors for sure.
300 points: a red and light blue computer. Again, how great would it be to have a computer colored like that?
400 points: a blue and green painting of a woman with long black hair.
500 points: a blue safe.

Wow, those cats are such thieves! See, cats are not innocent!

This game takes place in houses with platforms and dangerous doors. There are regular, plain-looking doors that you can use to whack some cats down with the doors’ forceful opening. I’ll talk more about this with the animations. There’s also a walk-through roof on top of each level. And finally, WE HAVE TRAMPOLINES! This game taught me that the best way to navigate a house and running away from cats is to bounce on trampolines.

The coolest levels in terms of graphics are the bonus rounds. They have red balloons and then a blue balloon with Goro’s face on it. And his face looks hilarious.

ANIMATIONS

8.5/10

Pac's review Mania! (Or Pac reviews Mania)
Review Preview

Hey vizzed, welcome to another Pac-Man game review by Pac! This time I’ll be reviewing Pac-Mania for the NES, which is in my opinion one of the best versions of the game. It was released by Tengen in 1990. You start out with 5 lives! It’s different from most Pac-Man games because this one is 3D and Pac-Man can jump over ghosts! Alright, time to get my fingers jumping around the keyboard like Pac-Man does in these mazes. BOING!

GRAPHICS

9/10

Wow, for an NES game these graphics are detailed and vibrant. The title screen just screams, “Check this out! You won’t be disappointed!” It’s funny because of the ghosts’ facial expressions, and it’s colorful. The Pac-Mania logo is large and the Pac-Man style 3D block letters pop out at me instantly. The letters in and below the logo have a cool taste in colors, including the shadows. Pac-Man himself is to the left of the modes below the logo.

One thing bothers me about the title screen is the C shaped like a Pac-Man. It doesn’t have the 3D red border/outline the other letters do. It looks so plain. I’m thinking that was intentional to make that Pac-Man stand out as his 2D self, but it doesn’t look good in my opinion. Even the dot to the right of him has that red border. Come on, man.

The title screen has another thing that pops out at me: the scrolling white rectangles to the left and right of the mode select. They give so much life to the title screen, and it’s cool to watch. I like that Inky is staring down at the C shaped like a Pac-Man with a frown on his face.

The world select screen is simple but in this case, that’s much better than having so much going on. If you’re playing this game with a friend, you wouldn’t want your friend to sit there while you admire the visual beauty of the game like a nerd. It gives you a zoomed in visual of each world, which hel... Read the rest of this Review

Review Preview

Hey, it’s Pac here with another Pac-tacular review! This time I’m finally talking about a Pac-Man game again: Ms. Pac-Man for the NES. This is the Namco version. The other NES version of the game is here, the Tengen version:

http://www.vizzed.com/playonlinegames/game.php?id=64698

In this review, I’ll be discussing what makes this conversion so much different from others. Also, this game has “secrets”, but I won’t spoil anything.

This version of Ms. Pac-Man was released in 1993. Hmm, I’m in the first maze. But wait, the ghosts are gone. I’ll go inside their box to see if I can find anything to write down with my pen. Oh, the ghosts have been replaced with a word in the NES font! I’d better write all this down while I tour the game.

GRAPHICS

5/10

Most people would take one look at this after playing the original and think, “Ew”. But I think that for the NES, they’re OK. Right away, the title screen captures my attention but not for all good reasons. The Ms. Pac-Man logo is weirdly colored, but at least there are multiple colors. I don’t understand why the letters aren’t all the way filled with those colors, though. There’s a huge gap in the C shaped as a Pac-Man. How basic the title screen is makes me like it, though. I’ve always thought the arrow pointing to the mode you select is cool.

Once I start the game, I’m shocked by how thin the maze is, as well as its color choice. It’s light green!! And I have to chomp orange dots. Oh and speaking of Ms. Pac-Man, she’s a darker yellow for her extra lives on the right, more like orange. She’s supposed to eat fruit, not be like a fruit! Gosh. She isn’t supposed to look like Clyde either. That’s REALLY not cool. XD

At least the numbers and letters are appropriately colored on the right side o... Read the rest of this Review
Super Boy II

Oh boy woohoo, it's Super Boy 2!
Oh boy woohoo, it's Super Boy II! This game is the sequel to Super Boy I and it's basically a Sega Master System version of Super Mario Bros 2: The Lost Levels. It started out only being on the MSX, but then Zemina ported it to the Sega Master System. It’s very similar to Super Boy I (which you will notice throughout this review XD) but has it improved any of the flaws that Super Boy I had? Or is it even worse? Read this review to find out. Let’s-a go!

Graphics (looks of objects): 7/10

The graphics are pretty much the same as Super Boy I but there are less glitchy graphics in this game. There are still some though. In world 1-2, a section that has many coins lined up like soldiers has some glitchy objects below it that seem to be parts of question-mark blocks.

One mistake I noticed about the graphics is that even though the sky is supposed to be black in world 2, it’s the same dark blue color as the other worlds. Come on, even Super Boy I didn’t make that mistake and it’s made by the same people! In that game the sky is black in world 3, just like it’s supposed to be.

Other than those things, everything else is the same as Super Boy I. The other objects look the same and the game-pooping-itself pause glitch is still there.

Graphics (animations): 5/10

Unlike the regular graphics which have some slight differences, the animations are the exact same as Super Boy I. The Koopas still die from Mario’s foot hitting their faces instead of you kicking their shell to kill them, and the scrolling is still choppy. The power-up animations and cut-scenes are still rushed too.

Sound (effects): 3/10

A few of the sound effects are kind of good, but the rest sound nothing like the original Super Mario Bros. sound effects. The block-breaking noise is just a beep, and it’s the worst sound effect in the game. However, the creators of this game and Super Boy I nailed it... Read the rest of this Review
Galaga

Button-mashing fun!
It's Galaga, the classic, fun game made by Namco that makes me press keys on my keyboard really rapidly over and over in order to defeat the enemies fast enough. It’s worth the tiredness I feel in my fingers afterwards! I’ve been playing this game for many years and now that I have been pretty far in the game (stage 29), I can say that it’s pretty intense after the first 3 stages and it just gets harder as you go.

Graphics (looks of objects): 8.5/10

I noticed right when I began playing Galaga is that the logo for the name of the game is pretty impressive. I think the enemies are impressive too. The main enemies always remind me of living things I see in real life. The enemies with blue wings remind me of bees. The enemies with red wings remind me of butterflies. The green guys, with the claws, that can turn purple remind me of crabs. I don’t know if it was intentional for all of these enemies to look like those things, but either way it’s pretty cool. I like the look of the “bonus enemies” too (the ones in challenging stages and the ones that spawn out of other enemies) but they’re more creative in my opinion since they don’t remind me of anything I’ve seen before in real life.

The thingamabobs that tell what stage you’re on are strange but they also look good. The first one you see (for stages 1-4) looks like a missile. I’m sure that was on purpose since you shoot missiles at enemies in this game :P The stage 10 thingy looks like a shield that you’d use to protect yourself from the enemies. But there’s no shield in this game and if there was it would likely be too easy. The stage 20 thingy looks like a stronger shield.

The ships are really cool looking especially when there are 2 of them in the battle at once. I noticed that there’s red fire at the bottom of the ship to make it be like a real rocket, and there’s a missile shooter on th... Read the rest of this Review
Super Boy I

Oh boy, it's Super Boy!
Oh boy, it’s Super Boy ([s]this should be the game’s description[/s]). It’s basically just Super Mario Bros. for the Sega Master System with a different name. This game was originally on the MSX only, but it was put onto the SMS by Zemina. I really like playing this game for some reason, but it is frustrating and disappointing. I’ll describe the reasons why throughout this review, but for now we’re still in the introduction. OK, now we’re done. Let’s get to the review!

Graphics (looks of objects): 7.5/10

I can say without a doubt that the graphics are this game’s biggest strength. They have their flaws, but for the most part they resemble the original Super Mario Bros. One thing I don’t get about the graphics is that there are some glitchy ones in World 1-2. They seem to be inanimate objects and all you can do is stand on them. But that isn’t any fun. Ignore them and just play the game!

Another strange (and hilarious) thing about this game is what happens when you pause! The graphics and the game itself stop working and the game pretty much poops itself. This doesn’t seem to ever happen on the title screen when it’s standing still though. It just freezes the game. But that isn’t any fun. Don’t pause and just play the game!

Other than those strange flaws with the graphics, they’re pretty good but not perfect. The sky is a dark blue when it’s supposed to be a light blue, but it still fits in with the game. I just assume it’s always nighttime in this game. Mario is just a basic red and white instead of his original colors, and that doesn’t change when you grab a fire flower. The blocks and question-mark blocks look great. The enemies look right for the most part, but in underground levels the Goombas are still brown when they should be blue. Even Bowser looks great! Don’t tell him I said that, he’ll come and steal t... Read the rest of this Review
Super Mario 64 - Relax Your Life

Relax? Right...
Intro:

As usual, it's me reviewing another Super Mario 64 hack-that-no-one-else-bothered-to-review. It's sad that these games are the only ones I feel like reviewing :P This hack, Super Mario 64: Relax Your Life, is a mini-hack created by blackshadowdrybones containing 5 main courses, 4 secret-star courses, a Bowser course (not counting the original SM64 levels that were left in the game), and many spelling errors. There are 44 stars in total to collect. To see what it's like and how it compares to the original SM64, keep reading! :D

Graphics: 7/10

Even though many of the graphics are just boring or wacky, this hack's graphics aren't horrible. Quite a few of them are pretty good in my opinion. The red-orange gradient in Course 1's lava is a really nice touch, I haven't seen anything like it in any other SM64 hack! However, the other graphics in Course 1 are pretty boring. It's just a bunch of light green. The castle is interesting, with a picture of Dry Bones on the outside. On the inside there's the the crazy doors with triangles on them, the changed star doors, and the green, white, and blue floor with a square pattern. The Power display is pretty interesting too. It's a star that shrinks and changes colors when you lose damage. When you have 1 HP left, it's just a yellow circle.

Some areas' graphics are more interesting than others. For example, Course 2 is more interesting graphic-wise than Course 1 since it has brown floor/walls, gray and black platforms, and coolly colored boxes. However, I don't find Course 2's graphics to be very well-designed. There could have been much more done with the graphics, and same goes with every other course. Finally, the color of the stars is a nice shade of blue. :)

Sound (music): 6.5/10

I was pretty disappointed at the new soundtrack this hack has to offer. Honestly, I prefer music from the original SM64 over most of these songs. My first impression (Course 1's music) wasn'... Read the rest of this Review
Pac-Man Remix

A Pac-Man hack with REAL ghosts!
Hi, welcome to my review of a, in my opinion, pretty cool hack of Pac-Man called Pac-Man Remix. The hack lives up to its name: it really is a remix of Pac-Man. The new maze is green and it has some places where you can very easily get trapped by ghosts. The ghosts now go through walls (like they're supposed to!), hence me calling them real ghosts in this review's title. :P

Also, there's a new ghost added to the Take Out Pac-Man Squad in this hack, since Pinky stinks (just kidding! XD) His name is Steel, since he's gray. After I first started playing this hack for a minute or 2, I saw what this new ghost is capable of. He's very similar to the other ghosts, enjoying their ability to pass through walls and make Pac-Man shocked and very jealous, but there's something different about this dude. When Pac-Man eats a ghosteater pellet, Steel is invulnerable! I guess the creator of this hack wanted it to be a little bit like Pac-Man Plus where sometimes one ghost isn't affected by the ghosteater pellet.

I'll talk more about the ghosts' new advantages and Pac-Man's new disadvantages later. XD For now, I'll get started with the review!

Graphics: 8/10

Most of the graphics remain unchanged, but there are some things in the game that got redecorated with new colors. One example is the display on the right of the maze that shows the player how many lives they have after they die. Instead of the extra Pac-Men being colored the usual yellow, they're white. It's a little interesting to me because that means they instantly change colors when it's their turns to play :P Another minor graphics change is that in the first cut-scene, Blinky remains red when he's running, er, floating away from Pac-Man instead of turning blue. I guess Pac-Man found a special ghosteater pellet.

The color of the maze changed. Instead of blue, it's green! I liked it better when it was blue but the green still looks really nice! It's the perfect shade of green too.... Read the rest of this Review
Super Mario Random Road

Super Mario Random Road - not as random as I thought!
Hi, today I will be reviewing a Super Mario 64 hack called Super Mario Random Road. Despite its name, the hack isn't random. However, the star you get at the end of the game adds 5 stars to the star counter on the top of the screen. It shows up as 4 on the File Select screen though! That's pretty random :P I'm pretty sure that's why this game is called Super Mario Random Road.

This is a mini-hack, which means it's quite short for a hack of Super Mario 64. It contains one star, one level, one overworld, and one crazy and hectic Whomp boss. This hack doesn't have any custom dialogue but the hack itself is pretty original. :)

This hack features some ASM hacking, such as the wing cap being transformed into a Tanooki Mario power-up. Unfortunately, you don't get a Tanooki suit, but you get the Tanooki ears and very easy flying. Now instead of having to go up and down to control your speed while flying, you can fly at the same speed constantly. Let's get going with the review!

Graphics: 9/10

You start the game off at the outside of Princess Peach's [s]ugly[/s] castle, just like Super Mario 64. However, as you try to go inside of the castle, you stop and look at the castle's main entrance doors. They have changed! Now they look like the yellow doors from Super Mario World. Other than that and the water below it being removed, the castle looks the same.

After you attempt to enter the castle, you're warped to a new overworld with custom graphics. Most of the switches in the overworld are recolored. The cap box looks just like the box for the Gold Tanooki Mario power-up in New Super Mario Bros. 2. When you open the box and grab the power-up, you get Tanooki ears on your hat. :)

Most of the graphics in this hack are from Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. For example:

-The yellow blocks with 2 lines on them are from Super Mario World.
-The really bright blue blocks (the ones that are in the level you a... Read the rest of this Review

Luigi's Mansion 64

How to avoid a game over
Here is how to avoid a game over in Luigi’s Mansion 64!

After unlocking the upstairs door of the castle, go to the stairs leading to where the star door is, above the small door leading to the upstairs area (which is now a 90-star door instead of 50). If you don’t have 90 stars, walk onto the stairs and then do a backward long jump (BLJ) by holding the keyboard down and then back up while mashing the Z button and shift if you’re in Mupen64Plus. When Luigi gets to the wall next to the door, repeatedly press Z and shift again when Luigi lands. Eventually, you will go right through the wall next to the door if done right.

Regardless of whether you did this glitch or not, what you have to do next is go into either the hole where Wing Mario Over the Rainbow was or the hole where Rainbow Ride was. Both of these holes will warp you to the castle grounds where you will lose a life. I recommend doing this when you’re already at 0 lives so you only have to do it once, especially if you had to do the BLJ. After 0 lives, your live count will show up as M1, which means negative 1. Now, every time you die, your lives will go down to M2, M3, etc. They will continue to double digits (M10, M11, etc.) so you won’t get a game over. Enjoy this fun glitch that will make the game more fun because you won’t have to face that game over screen until you close the emulator!

By the way, this glitch makes 1-ups poisonous. Each one takes away one of your negative lives until it reaches 0 again. So if you decide to do this, don't grab any 1-ups so you can show off all your negative lives! :D

Luigi's Mansion 64 1st star in Boo Lake + cool trick
Here is how to get the 1st star of course 5, Boo Lake, of Luigi's Mansion 64 and how to get the same star to appear twice. You have to do both ways in this order: the way in the first paragraph then the way in the second paragraph. You have to do the first way to be able to get Big Boo to appear using the second way. Got it? I wish this wasn't so complicated -_- but I figured it out (on accident)! I tried my best to explain this, so I hope it isn't too complicated for you!

How to get the original star to appear (first way):

Attack the 2 ghosts on the top of the main floor, then go to the 2nd door on the very left side. Attack the 3 ghosts you will see that are very close to that door you entered. After you attack those 5 ghosts, Big Boo will appear in the same place he appeared in Super Mario 64. Attack Big Boo and the star will appear at the same place as it did in Super Mario 64. Go up the giant steps and get the star.

The same star twice? (second way to get Big Boo to appear)

Do the first way to make Big Boo appear that I explained above, then get 5 ghosts that give text boxes (it doesn't matter what order or what certain text box ghosts you have to get, thank god). Go into the last door on the very right of the top of the main floor. You will notice that Big Boo appears in that room instead of where he's supposed to be. Attack him, then another star will appear. Look at the picture I took of the two stars. The star on the left is the one that the Big Boo in the wrong room (using the second way) gave me. The star on the right is the one that the Big Boo in the correct place (using the first way) gave me. Sorry if this was too complicated, I tried to make it simple but it was really hard to find out this trick!
