Resident Evil Gaiden: Skilled Review
Pre-Review
I haven't ever played this game until now, but I've always like Resident Evil. I was hoping that the game would hold up and be fun, so let's see how it fared! When judging all aspects of the game, I took into account the year of release and what other games were doing at this time. I believe that this will make the following review fair and honest. There will not be a video review for this title this time, as I failed to record game play by accident. I'll try to include more details because of this.

Graphics: Compared to the competition, not that bad!
First things first, let's talk about graphics. Compared to other Game Boy Color games within the same year, the graphics aren't bad. The sprites are nicely done, and you can see the animations aren't bad either. A game for the Game Boy Color released about at the same time (two weeks apart), Breath of Fire, had about the same level of graphics. They're not bad, but they aren't mind blowing for the time either.

The good things you'll notice are that the animations are pretty good. The sprites are big enough that you can see what's going on, so that helps. The story "cut-scenes" are carried with good still images, I liked them a lot. The lighting is set up so that if you walk by particular spots, you may run into an encounter - which I'm sure was intentional being it was to simulate the horror experience. The tile sets are varied, but at times they are very frustrating. For instance, finding where the door is can become quite the adventure. During my first hour while streaming it, I basically walked by one of the first doors over and over - and didn't realize it until I accidentally bumped into it and saw the option to open the door light up. Maybe at least slightly changing the tint of that tile would have helped greatly.

When in battle, you're given a somewhat arcade style fighting scenario - which will be covered in greater detail later on. Anyways, it seems like each zomb... Read the rest of this Review

The Sims 2 (GBA) Skilled Review

Pre-Review
I haven't ever played this game until now, and was somewhat expecting a more.. "Sims" like experience. Turned out to be completely different, and it's not bad! When judging all aspects of the game, I took into account the year of release and what other games were doing at this time. I believe that this will make the following review fair and honest. For a video version of this review, please check the Vizzed Videos section of The Sims 2 (GBA).

Graphics
The graphics showcased in this game are great! I always like to find cons before pros, but this game did great. The walking sprites, still sprites, textures, theme, and the animations are awesome. They even do little introductions for the episodes, which is a neat touch. You may be a little surprised on how things react to you, which we'll talk about later. I tried hard to find something I didn't like graphics wise, but was unsuccessful in my mission to do so.

Sound
The sound is just as good as the graphics. You'll notice immediately that the soundtrack is unique and very good. Remember how I said that things react to you with the graphics? That's true for sound too, but I will talk about that later. All sound effects are done very well, and it fits the theme perfectly. An often overlooked feature for the day of the handheld was the ability to change volume levels (lower music, higher SFX, etc). This game provides the choice to change these values, which is ironic since it's one of the game I wouldn't change the sound level for.

Addictiveness
The game features multiple levels, about 16 base levels in all. They can also be changed with plot twists, for enhanced replay ability. The episodic set up allows for a person to play a few episodes at a time, good for the "on-the-go" mission of the time. There's a good amount of unlockables and what not, to keep you motivated to keep coming back. I'm not sure that I'd play the game aga... Read the rest of this Review

Yu-Gi-Oh - The Sacred Cards: Review

Pre-Review
To start off this review, I wanted to share with everyone that this play through was the first time I had ever touched Yu-Gi-Oh: The Sacred Cards. When judging all aspects of the game, I took into account the year of release and what other games were doing at this time. I believe that this will make the following review fair and honest. For a video version of this review, please check the Vizzed Videos section of Yu-Gi-Oh: The Sacred Cards.

Graphics
The graphics presented in this game are interesting. The game world is small, and so I expect a bit more detail than a larger game. To start off, the sprites used while walking around are above average. The game world textures are well done. I really liked the animated cut scene-ish dialogue where the character you are talking to is shown. They do really neat things like the character blinking. During the dueling sequences, I found it to be a mixed bag. The detail of the playing field, card background, and UI to be somewhat unappealing. However, the card portrait were of high detail when you zoomed in on them. The many different card types and subtypes are easily distinguishable though, so credit must be applied there.

Sound
I noticed many different background music being played at different times in-game. The background music was different, fitting of the situation, and most importantly it was good. The sounds may be average, but the music was just really good. Most notably, I really liked some of the "boss" type music played. It really added to the immersive feel - which is impressive being I am usually very hard to impress with sound and music.

Addictiveness
This is where things get complicated for me. The game starts out noticeably easy, and for about 10-15 duels you have virtually no trouble winning. Luckily, the game ramps up in difficulty, but not in the way you'd expect. The game fails to inform you that there is a ... Read the rest of this Review
Pokemon Emerald

Pokemon Emerald - Skilled Review
Pre-Review
First off, let me start by saying that Pokémon Emerald was a large part of my childhood. I had over 400 hours played on it when I was younger, and it is easily one of my favorite Gameboy Advance games. With that being said, I must say that I will put any bias aside for the integrity of this review. If you are interested in a video version of this review, please check the Vizzed video section for Pokémon Emerald.

Where did he come from, where did he go?
Alright, so let's start off with the story line. After you finish moving from... wherever you moved from: you begin your journey to become a Pokémon Champion. You officially start off the journey once you receive your first starter Pokémon. Throughout your journey you'll meet your two main antagonists, Team Aqua and Team Magma. Both teams have a very specific view on what they think the world needs, and it just so happens that those views are basically opposites of one another. So 10 year old you must save Hoenn from the destruction that their feud may bring. When you're not dealing with that, you'll also need to get all 8 badges, so you can challenge the Elite 4 for a chance to become champion.

It's addictive and provides depth!
This brings us to the game play. If you've ever played any Pokémon game before, you should be very familiar with how this works. After getting your starting Pokémon, it's your job to catch, train & evolve your team. This game features a fighting system that will reward specific types of damage against other specific types of Pokémon. For instance, a water attack will do a nice amount of extra damage towards a rock type Pokémon. On top of the type-based combat, there is also different types of attacks and defenses.  As an example, a move like tackle is physical and really wouldn't do much against a strong defense-based Pokémon. Yet against that same Pokémon, a move like water-gun is
a spec... Read the rest of this Review
