Hagane 09-24-13 01:41 PM |
Hagane: The Impossible Game Overall: 7.4 Hagane: The Final Conflict (or simply Hagane) is a extremely challenging, fast-paced, side-scrolling game. The basic plot is that the evil Koma clan is trying to destroy the world, and someone has to come to its rescue. Apparently, you are a cyborg-ninja capable of doing acrobatics and using plenty of different weapons from your arsenal. It had its US release in 1995, but was only available in Blockbuster stores, simultaneously turning this into a very obscure SNES game. Because it's so ridiculously challenging, not having a save feature is a huge let down for me. Graphics: 6 The overall graphics aren't that amazing in my opinion, they could have worked it more, because the way it is you can easily compare it to a NES game. Nonetheless I still have to compliment the scenario, you can feel a growing change of atmosphere as the game progresses. Sound: 5 The sounds in it feels like arcade standards, and by no means I'm saying this as if it's a bad thing, but there are no memorable soundtracks and they eventually get annoying and repetitive as the game progresses. The weapons, enemies, attack sounds and such have a noticeable similarity to old-school arcade games, such as CONTRA. Addictiveness:?7 This diverges from person to person, you are more likely to enjoy this game if you have more affinity with side-scrolling fast paced games, which I don't. At first I found this game to be very entertaining and challenging, but as I kept doing the same thing over and over again I rather became bored and frustrated than eager for further progression. Each enemy presents a different attack pattern, and you have to learn how to avoid them or else you will die fast, at the end it almost felt like playing Guitar Hero, as I had to do the exact same moves in order to advance through stages. Story: 8... Read the rest of this Review |
Trip World 09-23-13 08:22 PM |
Trippingly Challenging! Overall: 8.7 Today I'm reviewing this rather obscure GB game: "Trip World". It never had a release in the US making it a very valuable piece amongst cartridge collectors all over the world. You will find a huge similarity between Kirby's Dreamland, but don't let the game's silly look fool you. This game is CHALLENGING. I gave up on trying to beat this the legit way, I had to constantly F2 through the game or else I would have to restart the whole thing (I'm not proud of myself). Alright, no more stalling the subject, here is my review: Graphics: 9 The overall look of the game is very charming, it has the same Kirby Dreamland sort of feeling. Even for a standard black'n white GB game, they managed to make the background sharp and clear, I especially like the transition between scenarios and each enemy's unique look, which correspondent to their moves. Sound: 7 Not surprisingly, the songs and sounds bear a striking resemblance to Kirby's Dreamland. They are catchy, but that's it, pretty standard for this type of game IMO. The game sounds does it job, but it feels as if there isn't much of a variety in them. I noticed a lot of sounds being re-used for different actions, but that's more of a personal complaint. Addictiveness: 8 This game strikes on turning yourself into your own arch-enemy. There were so many occasions in which I got mad to myself for dying in such a ridiculous manner, I unconsciously got better at each game reset. Because this is a challenging game, I would suggest playing this in a real GB, but the odds of you ever finding a original cartridge are so low you should probably scratch that. Story: 6 You are a little bunny creature that lives with his grandfather on a mountain that guards this flower with special powers that keeps peace to the land. And typi... Legend of Zelda, The - Oracle of Seasons 09-15-13 03:55 PM |
From the Oracle series! Presentation: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons is a must play for any Zelda fan out there, if you haven't played any Zelda's game so far I strongly recommended this game as your starting point to the franchise. This game was launched in the last GBC year, allowing the handheld to make a stylish leave and letting the GBA make its apparison. I could easily name this game as my favorite GBC game, even surpassing the over acclaimed game Pokemon. Graphics: 10 Beautiful graphics, the way this game manages to play with the GBC's colors is truly amazing, each season gives a new variety of colors to the scenario, you can really feel a change of mood when changing between winter, summer and so forth. There's also a great variety of different of animations, from the singing villager all the way to Zelda's end-game kiss. A great feat for a GBC game with limited capability. Sound: 10 8-bit masterpieces all over the place, as my personal favorite being the Tarm Ruins soundtrack. You will encounter a great variety of music as you adventure yourself into different areas, providing a hugely immersive experience and a sense that something great is to come. The animation sounds are well put and gives the player a sense of action. Addictiveness: 8 There is definitely a lot of content put together is this game, from side quests to challenging dungeons and boss fights. Tons of dungeons and charismatic characters. This is a game that I see myself playing some years from now. Story: 8 By the time this game was launched, Zelda was still a game mainly focused on the player's individual experience, the story in it is just enough to provide you a main objective. That being said, this game still manages to make the player feel as if he is into something big, as you gain new tools and gets one step closer to the final challenge, it feel...
