Battletoads

Battletoads, can you beat it?
Battletoads

Overall: 8

The NES has some of the hardest games I have ever played. One of those games is Battletoads. It stands on that list for good reason, if you have played the game you know exactly what I am talking about. If not, do yourself a favor and pull it up on vizzed right now. Let us see how far you get. Just because it is FREAKING HARD does not mean it is not fun, or a bad game. It is simply just difficult. So why did it get the ratings I gave it? Lets find out!

Graphics: 10

This game has pretty decent graphics, you can go in just about any direction on screen. It is a side scroller making it impossible to go backwards once you have passed a point. There is a decent amount of detail in the actions, like when you boot a monster (or your team mate, that is always fun) you can see the "grooves" of the boot. Pretty amazing for the NES. The bosses have decent amounts of detail as well.

Sound: 6

Honestly, I do not care for the music. It was not obnoxious enough for me to mute it, but it gets pretty annoying. If you do not believe me, pause the game with the sound turned up. Just be prepared for a poor persons beat boxing. If a game has memorable music I find myself singing the tunes on occasion, that never happened with this game. Simply not impressed.

Addictiveness: 8

Even though this game is super hard, there are a number of things that make it addictive. The difficulty itself is one of those things. I sometimes simply want to see how far I can get (no I have never beat this game). My favorite thing to do though, is to play the game with a friend, my brother and I have this thing going where we will randomly turn on each other in the middle of the game. I'll be down on the ground with almost full life and he will come over to me, pick me up, and throw me into a pit. From that point on, it is all out WAR. We spend the next hour trying to get back at one another. I laughed a lot doing t... Read the rest of this Review
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III - The Manhattan Project

TMNT 3
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3:The Manhattan Project

If you are anything like me, you grew up worshiping the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. My wall was decorated with everything related to them. This led me to buy every Ninja Turtles game I could possibly find. The best of those I own is this, TNMT 3: The Manhattan Project. Shredder is once again up to no good, and you, as a ninja turtle are responsible for stopping him. Let get to it!

Game play

You are able to choose between any of the 4 turtles, each with a special attack (some are better than others). The attack makes things more interesting than previous installments where simply pressing the same buttons on any turtle would result in identical moves. You have a reason to chose specific turtles now! There are a variety of intractable obstacles in the game, things that damage you when you touch them, sewer lids can be hit back at enemies, my personal favorite thing to do when I was a child was to throw enemies over your head and into open areas. Numerous characters from the show make an appearance in the game. There is a level select code for those of you who have taken a liking to a specific level.

Graphics: 9
The graphics are about as good as they get for the era this game was released. It is easy to see and understand whats going on and you can easily distinguish who you are fighting as and who you are fighting with. For the day and age this game was released it truly was amazing to see something like Manhattan Island lifting into the sky. It was very well done.

Sound: 9
The sound is well done, again, I would find myself humming the tune along with the game. Undoubtedly you will hear the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song. It wasn't like other games where I found myself wanting to mute the game to stay sane while playing. The sounds made with attacks can get slightly repetitive (hence the lost point). Sound changes appropriate... Read the rest of this Review

Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance Review

Overall - 7
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is an interesting game to say the least.  It is very different compared to other final fantasies. For me, this is a bad thing. I know that there are a number of people who enjoy this game, but its just not my type of game. THAT DOES NOT MEAN ITS A BAD GAME.

Graphics - 9
The graphics are done pretty decent, everything is 3D, My only complaint is the map, its is a little too simple, but I don't know what I would have done to improve it. Most of the graphics on spells and attacks are really simple (a simple swipe of the sword), but the summons are pretty decent.

Sound - 6
I really didn't care for the sound, it bored me. You hear an attack, and the response is simply the sound someone makes when they get punched in the stomach. Could it get more interesting? I didn't like the music that much either. Others may like it more.

Addictiveness - 7
It is fairly addictive, I know I wanted to finish the game. A lot of the rules implicated regularly in battle frustrated me, making me not want to play as often (that is why the points were subtracted).

Story - 6
I'm giving you my opinion! The story is cheesy. I simply didn't like it. This is a final fantasy game! Where's the emotion! Basically, you as a child are stuck in a final fantasy game. You want out, your friends want to stay.

Depth - 6
It are a lot of things you can do (quests, fights to level, etc) to do in the game.  It takes a while to beat, but part of this is because the battles take SOO LONG. Quantity of hours does not make up for quality in my mind. You can level different jobs etc, making it have a little more.

Difficulty - 6
This game really isn't that hard, the laws just make things obnoxious. Lets say you forget about one law and cast an illegal spell. Your guy is now in jail and you are out for a few fights. I... Read the rest of this Review
GoldenEye 007

Goldeneye-Always a classic
Goldeneye

Goldeneye, the classic first person shooter. If you have never played this game you are truly missing out. This is one of the games that made the first person shooter genre what it is today. This a game that almost every gamer has played, and for good reason. I know that I have spent countless hours on the single player, not to mention the multi-player. The multi-player played a crucial role in this games success.

Graphics -

This graphics in this game are very well done, its easy to see details, and you can even shoot a variety of things in the background. At the time this game was released this game was about as good as it got. The first memory I have of this game is crawling through the vents in the Facility, and simply being amazed at what I was looking at. It was a big deal.
Sound - The sound in this game is top notch. The music on EVERY level sounds great. I have even found myself humming some of the tunes on occasion. The sound impacts actual gameplay in numerous ways. For instance, let's say I am playing the Aztec temple. I start the game and go to shoot the guys in the first room. The first thing I hear is a grenade coming my way. Based on the sound, I can determine where the grenade was thrown and use it to make the guys run into the explosion.
In multi-player you can hear things such as rockets being shot at you, so you know you need to dodge, mines being thrown on doors etc. You can listen for explosions, to know whether or not an area is safe, and judge how long the explosion will last from there. Try playing this game without sound, it makes it soooo much harder.

Gameplay -

The gameplay in this game is top notch. It is incredibly addicting. The variety of difficulties and the computers reaction to your shots makes every game unique. Its simple to control, aiming is easy, shooting is easy, switching guns is easy. Everything about controlling your character is easy.
Once you have finishe... Read the rest of this Review
Guerrilla War

Guerrilla War-An unknown Gem
Guerrilla War

Introduction

Ah, this game brings back so many memories from when I was a child. I have played and beat this game numerous times, and I know I will be back again. What makes me come back? It's fun and its simple. This game is a simple overhead view of a war. You play alongside the civilians, fighting for their freedom. You have access to two initial weapons, grenades and a gun. As you go along you can upgrade you guns (unfortunately you die in one hit and those upgrades are lost). You can also hop into tanks and decimate everything around you. It really is a simple game, worth playing.

Graphics

The graphics really are not bad considering the age it came out. You get the overhead view and there is a decent amount of detail. The game takes place in a variety of settings, a jungle, towns, sewers etc. It is easy enough to get around, and know what your limits are. The fire does look a little ridiculous, and the effect is repeated when things explode.

Sounds and Music

This is where the game lacks a little. The music does get a little repetitive and the sound of you throwing grenades is constantly there. There really isn't much else to say other then this.

Story

The story is rather weak, but this is not supposed to be a story game. You are fighting for the freedom of the island you have landed upon. You fight against the current military presence. That is really all there is too it.

Gameplay

As I have said previously, I have played and beaten this game numerous times. I am not 100% sure what it is about the game, but it really does have its charms. The weapon upgrades are fun. Things do die fairly quickly, but so do you. If you want to keep your weapon upgrades you need to work on dodging bullets, tanks, and helicopters. You do have a set number of lives, but you have infinite continues, resulting in there being no need to worry about game overs. (if you are playing 2 p... Read the rest of this Review
