The First Funky Fighter (set 1) This game has nine buttons to punch with, but since I can't figure out which keys they're supposed to be, this game is unplayable! Aaaaaaaaaah.
The Key Of Avalon - The Wizard Master - Server (GDT-0005C) (V4.001) There's an error in both this game and its apparent sequel - apparently it's missing some 'triforce' files or something, so the game can't load...

Puzzle King (includes bootleg of Snow Bros.)

Not bad, just weird

I'll start this review by saying I'm not big on typical fast-paced arcade action, so maybe you'll like this game more than me, or you'd rate the difficulty lower. Not that I'm ready to beat it up or anything. I...just felt like pointing that out.
Anyway, here's Puzzle King, a 1999 arcade game. There's absolutely no plot to anything that goes on in this game; trying to connect any dots between the playable characters leads to nothing. There are ten characters to choose from - two sets of five, at least, pertaining to different sub-games, which I'll get into later. These guys run the gamut from weird to flat-out lazy; in fact, in one of the games you can play as a farmer named Farmer.

Before discussing the BORING sound and music of Puzzle King, I'll go over the gameplay and stuff like that. You've got four games: "Pac Man 2", "Tetris", "Hyper Man 2", and "Snow". One of these sounds like a complete mystery...until one realizes that the title of the ROM notes "includes bootleg of Snow Bros.". That still leaves at least one mysterious enigma, unless you know who Hyper Man is supposed to be. I don't think I was ever aware there was a second Pac-Man, were you?

Pac Man 2

This is the game that plays first if you view the game's Attract Mode, i.e. that thing arcade games do when nobody's playing them to attract players. You control some sort of young animal, potentially a humanimal, as they maneuver a maze filled with baddies to collect tiny hearts and orbs. If you get a big orb, you can destroy whatever enemy you run into. Basically, and predictably, it's Pac-Man-style gameplay. One of the twists is that you have the power to jump and fire a gun. Honestly, I never figured out how to fire, and I always forgot that I even had the ability to jump, especially because it's not totally necessary (for the first few levels, at least). I guess I should note that the enemies... Read the rest of this Review
Mega Man Battle Network 2

One of the best Battle Network games
I think that if you want to jump into the Battle Network series, this is the game you should start with.  The first game's not bad, but the battle system hadn't been ironed out, and the lack of variation in its Net overworld is confusing.  That aside, on with the review!

In the not-so-distant future, everything is powered by the Internet.  Everything.  But as this supposed convenience abounds, so do dangerous viruses, who appear in the form of fight-able monsters.  To fight viruses, people use PETs, or Personal Terminals, which contain characters called NetNavis who can fight this evil scourge.  You control Lan Hikari, a youngster whose PET contains Mega Man (or MegaMan.exe, I guess), and eventually become involved in the latest evil plot by WWW.  Go fight them!

The story in this game isn't bad.  It flows a lot better than Battle Network 4's, in my opinion.  There's nothing deep or thought-provoking in it, but it provides for some cool moments.  Perhaps the real world locations are dull, but the Net design in BN2 is one of the most aesthetically pleasing in the series, and the final areas, both online and off, were just so cool.  Also, the game has some very catchy tunes.

On to the ever-important gameplay!  You fight viruses by using battlechips in round-based combat over a three-by-three grid.  Battlechips can hurt opponents, heal you, or provide some other effect (invisibility, changing the panels on the battlefield, etc.).  You can use up to five chips per turn, but at one time you can only use A) chips with the same code or B) chips with the same name.  That's the basics of it.  You can get more battlechips by defeating viruses, buying them, or even defeating another character's NetNavi, which often gives you an abnormally-powerful chip.  The faster you beat an enemy, the more likely you are to get a battlechip.  Mixing and matching chips in a bat... Volfied (World, revision 1)

Volfied (for the arcade) Review - It's really not bad!
Way on the last MAME game page, behind all the piles of arcade games with random names like 'sdle-12' and other who-knows-whats, I found...a game with a name. It's called Volfied, and it's actually pretty fun.  Also, turns out it's a sort of branch in the Qix game series.  The core gameplay of Volfied is a lot like Qix, but with some differences (obviously).

One difference is that this game has a plot...

Screenshots: "It was a long trip.... The spaceship "Monotros" returned to his planet, "Volfied" / But, Volfied had already changed into ruins from invasion of aliens! / At the time, he caught "SOS" from underground. He decided to rescue the people from the aliens!"

...or, I guess, 'plot.' It's not like arcade games really need strong plots, though, or even strong English.  Volfied's all about the gameplay!

You control Monotros as it/he flies around the edges of the screen.  Your goal: seal off 80% of the screen by forming geometric shapes. Y'know, squares and rectangles.  When you hit CTRL, Monotros can fly off of the main path and start to form a shape.  At the same time, you have to watch the enemies.  Typically there are a few small ones (still larger than your puny, puny ship) and one 'boss.'  Depending on the level, they might fly around spasmodically or actively seek and attack you.  Luckily, if you surround a grey box, you're likely to get a power-up.  These include lasers and a speed boost - both very useful.  Another way to win a level is to defeat the 'boss,' which can be accomplished fairly easily by using said lasers.

Get hit once and you lose a life; get hit three times and it's game over.  Adding more credits does not start you off on the same stage.  Additionally, you have a 'Shield' meter near the bottom of the screen.  I'm not exactly sure what the shield the game's referring to is, but I do know that when it starts to ge... Pop'n Twinbee - Rainbow Bell Adventures

Review of Pop'n Twinbee: Rainbow Bell Adventures
Admittedly I'm not very good at reviewing games, especially since I can't compare this one with many other SNES games 'cause I haven't played a lot, but I saw there weren't any other reviews so I thought I might give it a shot.

Pop'n Twinbee: Rainbow Bell Adventures is actually a platforming spin off of the Twinbee series of cutesy space-shooter-type games. You control three young pilots who are out to stop the evil Dr. Warmon's latest plan, and need to collect bells to save a princess, or something like that. The storyline is lackluster and basic, but they pull off what they have well enough, with cut scenes at the beginning and end of the game.

Each of the three characters can charge up a shock wave-punch, as well as charge their jumps and hover, basically allowing them to fly, which is a fun feature to mess around with. Also, each character has a different weapon and different-size bars for charging their Jump and Punch meters. Power-ups, which come in the form of bells, are easy to come by, since nearly every enemy drops them. I would've wished that these bells landed on the ground instead of simply flying through the earth, but that's a minor complaint. Characters handle well, even if they are a bit slippery.

As for difficulty, it's not very hard, making it accessible to wimpy RPG-playing chumps like me. Some stages went by fast as I charged straight through; others required exploration. I often had to fight the bosses over and over again, but really their patterns are straightforward. Levels are well-designed enough that (with the exception of one of the water levels) I didn't feel frustrated as I searched for the exit.

The graphics are colorful and pleasing to look at, like much of the Twinbee series, and the music is of good quality, with some memorable tracks. In terms of depth, this game has over thirty stages including bosses, which I'd say is a pretty good length. I enjoy going back and playing through levels mainly b... Read the rest of this Review
